    posted a message on Soulstones
Long before Diablo 3 had been announced my group of friends that played Diablo 2 religiously began making theories of where the story could go after the Worldstone was shattered.

One thing that seemed to be brought up consistently is that there is a soulforge where these stones could be broken. We believed that if this is the place where they could be broken, then that would also be the place where the stones could be reforged. This, then, could be the platform for the series' next installment, via Diablo 3.

On top of this theory we also believed that since the Worldstone had been corrupted and would thus need to be destroyed we had figured that its protection would wane and allow demons and angels of all sorts in the world of Sanctuary.

These are all just theories, of course. The soulstone theories seemed rather solid though.

Oh, I though you meant Diablo I when you said Diablo. I have no idea how the mechanics work in that came, so I assumed you were referring to how it was in D1, and that you wanted that back as opposed to how it was in D2. My bad.

I don't know what you mean by saying that MF doesn't work on bosses though, because it surely does. However you're not likely to see an increase in good drops from bosses, since MF in itself adds a small bonus to drop, which only becomes noticeable when killing a whole bunch of monsters.

Magic find percentages do not affect Act Boss drops in Diablo 2. This was the major change in 1.09 to 1.10. When they did this the super-uniques were much less common. The possibility of unique loot on bosses are on set loot percentages so they are unaffected by the gear you wear. Their loot tables are akin to the "special rune drops" of the Countess in Act 1.

Actually, since patch 1.10 or maybe it was 1.09, monsters have much more general loot tables (apart from Act bosses and the like), and loot is much more dependant on monster level than monster type. Whereas before monsters indeed had specific loot tables, nowadays many monsters share treasureclasses and/or have several such, which means taht a monster of sufficient level can basically always drop the desired item.

Isn't that exactly what I was saying?

THe big thing that changed in 1.10, other than major changes in game mechanics like synergies and runewords, but they changed it so magic find %ages don't work on act bosses. The act bosses were those that were given static percentages for their loot. Kinda lame in my opinion >>

I don't find anything unusual with it. I don't think there's any hidden meaning or a slip from Blizzard revealing part of the storyline.
They made it so because it sounds more poetic that way. And cooler.

    And heaven shall tremble -
And the heavens shall tremble +

I would have thought the same if they didn't throw the "what in the hells is that" along with Bashiok's response "there are many hells in Diablo."

It just seems like it's on that same vein.

I have a grudge against video game books, even more against putting info into video game books instead of said video game.

A bestiary is not hard to make, it requires writing but that's it.

Definitely. I don't really see any downside of a bestiary in comparison to books. I think it's rather dumb, too because it's rather lame that the only people that will understand the finer details of the world are those that read the books - not those that play the game.

If the books provided good enough information I wouldn't begrudge them that.... I just think that it'll be less-than great though. I couldn't imagine that it would take that much work... perhaps the hardest part would be to create background stories for the monsters themselves.

Heavens shall tremble probably refers to the christian belief in the three heavens (the sky, the space and stars, and paradise [Where God is]). Since it has been commonly used in real life, it could be supposed that it was used for Diablo 3 because it is such a common noun.

I wish I had read the stories, and I may at some point. I don't think it is necessarily based on the Christian ideas of Heaven and Hell... I don't recall Diablo, Asmodan, Belial, etc being referenced in the Bible so I don't really think that the Heavens would take the Christian belief while the Hells took on some other belief.

I forget which religion or set of beliefs they took the Hells from... I'll have to look it up. :P

I'm just not sure that their heaven and hell really conform to anything other than the lore they create for it other than the names they lifted from other religions. *shrug*

It's not hindering the game play at all, people that find it 'stupid' and don't want it. Can simply not look at it. People that do like it (and there are plenty of those) can watch it, increasing the amount of hours we can play in it.
I can still remember playing on Dungeon Siege 2, with it's bestiary and lore tabs. Just reading and watching monsters for fun.

And thanks to Nocturne for posting this on Bnet forums, I hope we get a reply.:D
(To bad I can't see the link, something with maintenance.)

That was the first thing I did when I posted it here - I went straight to Battle.net and posted a similar version of what I wrote here on those forums. :D

I honestly don't see at all what does a bestiary have to do with a game's genre.

People in that bnet thread do not respect Diablo.

I don't see it doing anything to the genre... I'm not too worried about that, persay. However, I think what the others were saying is that some games a written to fit strictly within a particular genre and they don't include other aspects that really add depth. I personally think that a Bestiary would be a wonderful way to add color and depth while providing background to the world of Sanctuary.

Amongst other things, of course... :)

I think that this can be related to the quote "what in the hells is that." Bashiok followed up on another thread saying that there are more than one "hell." Perhaps the "Heavens shall tremble" is referring to a possibility of there being more than one heaven.

Anyways, I don't think anybody argued against Tyrael being on the front cover.

i like how the skill tree has lots of passives (similar to wow talent tree)

You mean similar to the Diablo 2 skill tree? There are tons of passive skills on those trees as well. Namely the Barbarian and Paladin trees. It's so silly that people are so quick to point to WoW when WoW itself took many Diablo 2 functions. I guess people just see what they want to see.

posted a message on The New X-Men movie
I watched this movie a while back when it leaked and I was entertained by it. There were many parts of it that were not rendered and much of the stunts still had cables attached to the actors so it wasn't exactly that polished. I'll reserve my opinion when I see the full film with all the scenes and finished CG.

Overall I liked the plot and it's one I'll probably see in the theaters. I don't think that the other X-Men movies spoiled much for me because I already knew much of the backstory from following the comics and animated series when I was very young. I don't really think that this movie was written to explain a mystery, but to pay credence to how he acts later in the series. It's a rather sad story overall, and this movie does a decent job in my opinion.

Perhaps paying 10 dollars to see it in theaters is a bit steep, but it wouldn't be considered a waste. On another note, I do wish they got the same actors for Striker and Sabretooth. Gambit wasn't featured as much as I thought he would and it seems like it was almost a cameo more than anything else. I know that there are other "Origins" movies planned so perhaps he will feature in those. (I think the next is Magneto)

But anyways, overall I thought it was decent.

It was most likely only playable on Blizzards very own computers. So you could not get it. xD
So there were no copies at all.

But I think a Demo might spoil, so I just want them, instead of making another demo.
To work on the game so it can be released a week earlier perhaps? xD
    That's what I've been thinking.

I'd imagine that any demo they release at Blizzcon will be parts that they worked on for the actual game so the only thing they'd really be doing is confining that material for Blizzcon. I don't think they'd make content for a demo that isn't seen anywhere in the game. That would be quite a waste! I know the gameplay video was structured for that video, but I'm confident that we will see places in the game where those segments of the dungeon is utilized.
