So I have seen a few people complaining about no offline mode. I can understand how they feel some people don't have access to internet and would still like to play the game. But think of it this way.
In D2 people used the fact that they had access to all those files to learn more about them and change them around. Then they took that to another level and use this to affect online gaming. People were able to import items from offline to online and they were able to MAKE these items on offline with a simple copy/paste. They also used the information learned from the offline files to make dupe methods/mods/bots/hacks.
So by making everyone server side Blizzard can better watch over these files and pinpoint any type of hack/mod/bot/dupe or any other sort of alteration to the normal way the game would be played and kill it before it spreads.
I for one am 100pct for that. I hate the D2 economy as it is currently. All it is are bots and the occasional player trying to make enough to make a hdin to... bot. Or the people on D2jsp that spend all day duping/importing and selling stuff to make more FG. (jewel shops rune sellers and so on so forth. Even a few importers showing up now)
I think those are the reasons D2 is as dead as it is. Even for such an old game it had a very strong economy throughout its many years. But now imo its officially dying.... Prices are at a all time low... Markets are all flooded.... GGs aren't really even GG anymore because you can obtain everything you need with a bit of time botting.
Blizzard is going to make sure this won't happen for D3 and I don't care how they do it as long as they do. So we have to give up offline play mode oh well its for the good of the game! So I think I speak for everyone who wants legit gameplay a removal of cheaters. GO BLIZZARD DO WHAT U GOTTA DO!
DO NOTE THIS IS NOT SAYING THIS WILL PREVENT ALL HACKS/BOTS IT WILL IN FACT DRASTICALLY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO DO ABUSE THESE SYSTEMS TO PROGRESS IN THE GAME TO A POINT WHERE IT WON'T BE THAT NOTICEABLE. ALSO THIS IS ALL SPECULATION AND HOPES NOT A GUARANTEE!

They offer single player offline. IF it takes that 1 activation, I'm sure finding 5 mins of internet to activate it wouldn't be difficult nor "inconvenient". If you can't have more than 5 mins of internet at a time you shouldn't have a computer, let alone be buying Diablo 3.Quote from Equinox
There is no 'day and age' of which you speak of.Quote from KiseraiHonestly in this day and age I don't think it's all that unreasonable.
It is unreasonable if you care about your players' convenience, which Blizzard obviously does not.
I'm in a village far away there's no internet here. I got my SCII copy. Install- crap I can't play it.
This is done for supposed (not guaranteed) profit while hurting the players.
Not all of us are stuck in cities with perfect high speed internet 24/7/4/12. Old school gamers especially value freedom a lot, this limits.

You seem to be posting on these forums just fine, maybe you can make the same trip out of your village? -

They wanted D3 to be different. D2 was just a bunch of cookie cutter builds. They specifically created this game with the intention of having numerous viable builds. While I have no proof of this, I seriously doubt Jay would say this without evidence to back it up from internal testing. -

I am wondering at what phase in it's development did Diablo 3 turn into another WoW engine? It seemed to happen so gradually and subtly that no one noticed it... Blizzard should have just called this Diablo Online from the beginning or World of Diablo...
No offline mode at all anymore?
Modding now bannable, prohibited and against Terms of Service?
A real cash auction house?
Torchlight 2 keeps looking better and better. My support and respect for Blizzard seems to diminish with every announcement. Arrogance and complacency while stepping on and alienating minority fan-bases within your community never has a good end result... Just look at where Square-Enix is today; how the mighty have fallen.
No offline mode, bad I agree.
Modding, don't care.
Real cash, don't mind and WoW doesn't have this.
Torchlight sucks. -

Nektu posted a message on Diablo 3 Followers System UnveiledSeeing that the Followers system is only for SP to give you that multiplayer "feel", I may just stick to the multiplayer and forget the Followers altogether. I mean, what's the point? The plus is that they stay a level behind you in exp if they are in town, they are healed when you pick up health globes. But If you want that multiplayer feel, just play multiplayer.Posted in: News & Announcements -

OptimusPrime posted a message on Diablo 3 Followers System UnveiledPosted in: News & AnnouncementsQuote from Kiserai
The customization itself seems like it would alleviate a lot of these criticisms: if you don't enjoy that your Follower is killing a lot or whatever, it seems like you can tweak them / not gear them so they're not even remotely powerful except perhaps as a way to increase Magic Find or something (e.g., the Scoundrel's skills look to possibly work this way).
I say let's see more info / get more actual gameplay with the Followers and see what we can / cannot do with them (or do without them) before throwing feces at the entire system. I think this is natural, whenever there's any reveal like this there's a lot of knee-jerking going on, it's hard to remember we don't know much about this yet. I'm as guilty of this as anyone, just saying.
Agreed. The Follower system is not going to break your D3 experience. Obviously what we know about this system thus far, gives you the chance to let your Follower take the lead, or sit in the back of your ride. I have a sneaking suspicion that most who hate the system, will come to appreciate it.
Lets wait to see what Blizz has to say about it tomorrow. -

ScyberDragon asked Bashiok if they had plans on how and when they are going to announce these remaining systems.
It appears as though Blizzard knows exactly what they will be doing up until beta and more importantly, when they plan on starting beta.
I think they know exactly when they're going to start beta. -

Magistrate posted a message on When Will Beta Begin? We're going to see so little of the game during beta. Beta for Diablo III is mostly for the hype, anyway; it's not really for addressing bugs. The game archetype doesn't lend itself to extensive testing, and definitely not beta testing. Especially since it's not being tailored to be an eSport.Posted in: News & Announcements - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Alright, I've done my best to search through and find if this specifically has been discussed before and didn't find much about what I'm talking about, though if I've missed it and this is a duplicate thread, I apologize.
Specifically, I just finished MotS and read it very, very closely knowing that chronologically it's the newest information / story we have, the closest to what's going to be happening in D3, and came across a few rather interesting things, though mostly ambiguous, but I think they could lead to some interesting discussion; that all being said, here are some excerpts / thoughts:
(pg. 19)
"Mount Arreat--where legend claimed it had been hidden--had exploded, its entire top ravaged."
Pretty obvious, nothing new here really, just interesting to note; I'm more and more convinced (it seems obvious) it is in fact the Arreat Crater in the D3 cinematic trailer (far beyond where two guards appear to stand watch).
(also pg. 19)
"Now, both the powers of Light and Darkness reached out to fully claim humanity, and in their battles against one another the two cosmic factions threatened to destroy what they desired. Somehow, all that tied into Zayl's own urge to come to Westmarch. Somewhere in this vast kingdom, the repercussions of Baal's heinous deed would soon be felt."
Again, nothing monumental here -- we still don't know exactly what destroying the Worldstone has caused to happen in D3, except that whatever protection it offered Sanctuary before is now completely gone. The implication with the rest of the novel is that Astrogha's return was only possible (not only because of the factors of timing, Karybdus's work, etc) due to the Worldstone no longer existing -- both Heaven and Hell truly do now entirely see Sanctuary, and many forces that may have been unable to manifest may now do so.
(pg. 105)
"There was a foulness to this that disturbed the necromancer, a foulness he felt was tied in part to the destruction of the Worldstone. The dark ones will be stirring, a jungle spirit had told him during a summoning he had made prior to sailing. Even the lost ones..."
More evidence of the previous; I think what we take from this is that no former enemy can be counted out, as who knows what is meant by 'lost'...easily an explanation for Diablo's obvious return, but it also means the rest are fair game...Lillith, Andariel, Duriel, Mephisto, whoever.
More interesting to me was the presence of a unnamed, fiery-winged archangel throughout the latter half or so of the novel that aids Zayl and Salene. Earlier on he takes the form of a well-built man in the garb of a mercenary, and each time he is encountered he reminds them both of someone they dearly trust -- Zayl mistakes the man for Captain Dumon, and a short time later when the man aids Salene, she reminds him of Polth, her dead, trusted guardian. He subtly guides them both on their quests.
While the logic of this being the archangel seems relatively certain, Knaak makes it explicit in the final lines of the novel:
(pg. 321)
"And from across the estate of House Nesardo, a figure that resembled a mercenary with many faces but was so much more watched the necromancer and the woman he had just left."
...
"With that thought, he spread his fiery wings and, unseen by all, took to the sky."
So, it was him, we know for sure.
Another quick excerpt demonstrating the description of the figure, as it came in at the end of the novel to guide Zayl's wendigo to aid Salene in reaching and saving him:
(pg. 285)
"Salene looked at the light...and noticed that framed in it was what appeared to be a glorious figure with a long, shadowed hood and a robe of silver. For just a moment, the startled noblewoman also thought she made out wings of fire..."
It seems very obvious to point to the numerous art and screen captures from the D3 media showing an archangel with distinctly fiery wings -- in one he's towering in the air above another archangel, if you look at the sketchwork (I can link to the artwork in question if anyone has a difficult time seeing it on the D3 website).
This would seem to be a figure important to the post-D2 world -- the obvious question is which archangel is it? It could still be Tyrael if he has undergone some kind of change since destroying the Worldstone, as we know him to not have wings of flame. In his numerous appearances in the Diablo novels, though, Tyrael has always had an obvious presence, either being named as such by the omniscient narrator he even offering his name himself (as he does in Demonsbane, I think elsewhere, too). It just seems what we're witnessing the presence of another archangel, and if it is not Tyrael we're left questioning who it is, and why he's doing the work we'd normally see Tyrael doing.
One more excerpt from early on in the book when an odd occurrence happens -- it isn't stated directly, but it would seem to be when this archangel descends to Sanctuary to aid the humans:
(pgs. 99-100)
"In the dark of the storm, a single light flickered in the sky. Those few who might have seen it likely would have imagined that somehow the clouds had parted just long enough for this one star to shine through. But had they now witnessed it drop toward the ground, they would have instead called it a portent, an omen. In both cases, such onlookers would have been entirely wrong...and entirely correct."
Basically, the light descends down into the city of Westmarch. While it's subtle, I think what this is getting across is that while this archangel's presence in Sanctuary is a positive one directly, it would seem that the need for the direct intervention of Heaven is a sign that Hell has new, equally terrible things in store for Sanctuary, Astrogha's near return being only the first.
Alright, I know that's a lot of info, none of it huge exactly, and parts of this have been discussed elsewhere, but I wanted to offer some direct excerpts to give some concrete groundwork -- I also haven't seen the connection made between the angel in the artwork and the fiery-winged angel present in MotS before.
I've also read into the theory posted on this forum of the fiery-winged archangel possibly being Imperius, seeking to destroy Sanctuary, and it think it's clear this isn't the case -- this angel has already acted in the world of Sanctuary, and every move he made was to the benefit of its people, at least so far.
My thanks to anyone who bothered to read this looooong post, and I welcome any feedback or thoughts on these observations.

Uh, considering that they're not only maintaining the core mechanics of the last game but are actually improving it to make it MORE randomized as far as events and encounters to ensure replayability...how are they not respecting the franchise?
PS, I love the grammar in your signature. How's remedial 2nd-grade English treating you?
