If you wouldn't mind, could you share everything about the Barbarian? even the easter egg :)

    also

How did the Barbarian feel in comparison to the other classes? Watching the videos I got a little worried cause it felt he wasn't doing nearly as much damage as the other classes and it looked like he was lagging behind.

    Quote from "Seth" »
The Druids, of course, as the leaders of the tribes of Gaul and other places, besides (Gaul is modern-day France, give or take some space), led the Gauls to battle, and also had the distinct power to immediately stop any conflict between the tribes (because they were both feared and revered). They fought resistance in Celtiberian Numantia and Alesia (the latter's defense was led by Vercingteorix, if I remember correctly), when Caesar was trying to conquer the far lands. Critognatus was, again if I can remember well, a Druid who was pivotal in the resistance and urged Druid councils to band together their prospective tribes. Resistance was supposedly gone by 51 B.C., as per Posidonius' writings.

So yes, they were fighters, both politically and first-handed, so I don't particularly mind their presence in games, but they are often nothing like what they really were.

Key word there, Gaulish warrior. Druids were never warriors.

Celtic Life was had 3 different social ladders.

Nobility and the Warrior class - shouldnt take any explaining ;D

Peasents - pretty much what you expect, they did the manual labor and fought in wars when called upon

And the Druids - Priests, teachers, Advisors, Bards, made sacrafices and did the healing for a tribe.

I've got to run though so I'll try to make this short :)

The Druids weren't leaders... They had Power yes but that came from being of the higher class. They followed the Chieftain of the tribe and advised him on political and tribal affairs. The reason being is they were also the head of the Celtic religion. It's been shown through history that you dont fuck with your people's faith.

Another thing is Celts also valued their reputation and word was law. Bards were part of the Druidic order and if the Chieftan or Champion etc. did something to anger the gods or just a druid in pacticular they would preform a satire on the man. Which is pretty much suicide for any Celt with standing.

This is why they held power in the Celtic world. Why would a man or woman *yes Druids were men and woman* dirty their hands in a fight to the death with someone who was trained from the age of 7 to kill? They had the backing of a clan or tribe to do that for them.

Druids were involved in the Gallic war because Ceaser and Rome were a threat to their religion and the Celtic way of life, It was kind of like a Celtic version of the Jihad. But no, no they never picked up a weapon that delt with war.

    And.. Celts lived in

    Modern day France
    good portion of Western Germany
    Switzerland
    Northern Italy
    Quite a bit of Spain
    Ireland
    Scotland
    Wales
    England
    Turkey
Parts of Greece for a time
    Belgium
    Poland

    The list can go on

Unless I missed something in your links.

Looked through your sources man, no where did they say the Druids were men of war. When I say that I mean an actually warrior who picked up a weapon to end another mans life.

The only thing that they did that related to war was advise and act as ambassadors. Druids acted as more than Priests but also law makers so it would make sense that they would travel to rival clans and tribes to negotiate peace or other tribal politics.

The only time a Druid took an animal or humans life was in sacrifice to their gods.
So no Druids never fought in a war or killed in the name of a chief.

I know what you took that pose off of :)

Over all the proportions are pretty nice. You need to work on the face and some parts of the anatomy though. Like the collarbone actually goes into the shoulders and deltoids, it also forms an S shape.
You also made the abs very rigid and armor like. The chest also connects to the deltoids. There are some other issues but over all you did a good job.

In no sources have I seen that said a Druid ever picked up a spear or a sword and taking it to a Romans Skull. Druids filled many roles in Celtic society, be they teachers, advisors, judges, bards, and religious.

From what I know the only bladed thing they ever picked up was a sickle or a knife for sacrifice.

War and fighting was for nobles and his warriors. The Druids were involved in the war against Rome but they never picked up a weapon. Celtic law was Druids were exempt from Military service. Sending a Druid into a fight would be like sending in a Greek philosophers into a fight.

lol really the only thing that I think connects the Druids from Diablo to real life druids is the name itself and Gaelic names the culture bears. Other than that Druids never even picked up a weapon, much less got near a fight.
Plus I don't recall anything Celtic aside from the gods turning into animals :P

I'm impartial as to what happens with the Ranged class, seeing that at best I'm going to run the Barb the entire time with a possible run with the second melee class * if Blizzard gives us one*

Knowing blizzard they'll give us a pleasing over the top character that would fit in the setting and compliment the rest of the cast :P

The only thing that comes to mind when I hear Viking Druid is a Skald, so in a Diablo setting he'd probably be a fighting Poet. How that would fit in the game I have no idea. But this would leave us without a supporting tank class or a Ranger. So the chances are probably pretty slim on getting a Viking Druid.

I find it funny that Big blonde and blue eyed equals Viking when its the stereotype for every Barbarian people since the Celts first rampaged across Italy :P

I don't think we'll be seeing any Knights of Westmarch *paladins* in this game, atleast not until they release more content after the release. I could possibly see the Support tanks role being taken up by a warrior from Lut Gholein? This way you still maintain a heavy armor look thats unique compared to the Paladins and Warriors.

Where as the Barbarian is Two handed weapon, sword and shield and dual wield. The Warrior from Lut Gholein could focus more on Spears and pole arms?

Honestly I can't think of something that could be clever or cool for a Ranger type that tops a Sister or Amazon, unless now that I think about, if you wanted to go with the warrior poet idea where he/she doesnt want to get their hands dirty with blood, they just shoot people with sharp objects :P

I would say the Barbarians main culture is influenced by early Celtic/Gaelic and Conan the Barbarians Cimmerians *which in turn are Proto-Celtic culture created by Robert E Howard*

These Barbarians though are blizzards Barbarians so you can't exactly trace them to anyone Barbarian culture. You don't see names or places with any real Celtic influence but looking at the culture and their relation to the Druids; whom have Gaelic names and towns.

I would say their closest real world counter parts to the Barbarians are the Scots with some Pict, Viking and other barbaric influences thrown in. Fantasy wise the Barbs home and culture remsembles the CImmerians from Conan the most. Xeno phobic Giants that spurn Civilized man and are impossible to conquer.

This is just what I've come up with though :P

The whole average people living to 40 deal wouldn't make much sense seeing as a lot of the NPC's in game look well into their 50's. Look at Cain and Qual-Kehk. Plus I wouldn't say the Heroes from Diablo 2 are average by any means.

Explaining why he doesn't have great armor or weapons anymore or the skills he once had shouldn't be all that hard explain. First off 20 years is a long time. He could very well of gave up most of his armor an weapons so he could help re build the shattered live the Barbarians had been handed when Mt Arret was destroyed. He could of traveled off to improve his battle prowess and knowledge of the world, hence some of the new skills we've all seen.

I'm still of the opinion that the Female Barbarian is Charsi. The Female Barb has Red hair like Charsi plus a Smith's body. Plus 20 years having past, she could of very well shacked up with her people and learn the trade. Or she could of very well of married the Diablo 2 Barb an he taught her everything he knows lol.

Who has to say the Male an Female variations of the same class have to share the same past? The Barb in D3 is the one who helped put down the 3 prime evils an the Female Barb could very well be Charsi who now a Barb herself wants a crack at killing off the Prime evils.

posted a message on About the last group of heroes
Just something I've been thinking about lately.
What do you guys think happened to the last group of heroes? Will they be NPC's in the next game or will they make a comeback as player characters?

I'm probably just looking into this to deeply but.

Looking over the current Barbarian in the 20 min video, the Barb looked to me like a 20 year older version of the Diablo 2 Barbarian. Voice was familiar, grey hair etc. Plus he seems to be rather familiar with Cain, but then again the 20 min video could be bit into the game already where the player character have already interacted with Cain for awhile.

Also anyone else reminded of Charsi when you look at the female Barbarian?
