posted a message on Let's try this again..making Diablo 3 competitive
    Quote from TianZigo-next

All the need is to rank based on average time of X number of Grifts in a row. Fail one, and it's doesn't count.

This is a really interesting idea, it allows for competition that somewhat balances out RNG without actually removing RNG. You would still fish for a good combination of rifts which should satisfy Blizzard's desire to maintain replayability but you wouldn't be completely out of the running if you don't spawn that one map layout/mob type/boss etc. I would be in favor of this style of competition.

posted a message on barb or crusader zdps support/exp char?

The changes to monster CC resistance have rendered many of the traditional support crusader skills mostly useless. It's not impossible that there is a viable support crusader build out there but not one that is public knowledge at the moment. Support barb is very strong right now so you can't really go wrong if you go that route at least for now.

    Quote from Autocthon

What you're not taking into account is that is we assume the case where the largest numeric paragon gap exists (perfectly linear paragon level XP requirement - plvl1 takes 100xp, plvl2 takes a total 200xp etc) the difference in paragon levels will always be the exact same. 20% more paragon on the player playing 20% more.

In any OTHER case (increasing XP requirement per progression) you actually see a smaller paragon gap relative to XP difference.

I'm actually referring to something else, maybe I'm not explaining myself well but I agree with you that increasing the xp per paragon required for each additional level produces smaller power gaps than a linear scale. The gaps I am talking about are a product of increasing the base value and although the scale of xp to paragon being linear or not is certainly a factor in power gaps It doesn't change my core point.

the gap will always remain the excact same percentage difference no matter how you change the XP creep)

In other words if we both farm XP at the same rate per hour we will always be split by a gap relative to our time spent farming and that gap will always be the same amount of power whether we reach paragon 1000 or 10000. 20% more playtime will always be 20% more experience will always be 20% more paragon will always be 20% more main stat. Baseline XP creep has no effect there.

Here is where I'm looking at something different than you are. While in your example you correctly state that 20% more playtime = 20% more xp gained = 20% more mainstat you aren't looking at the absolute value of that 20%. That's the point I was trying to make. We both agree that base xp creep has no effect on the relationship between the 2 playtimes as a percentage but it does change the absolute value (the exact amount of xp).

From a competitive standpoint it would be preferable to maintain a smaller absolute power difference between players as it will result in closer competition. With the current structure of the system the absolute power difference will increase between 2 different playtimes whenever the ability to farm xp per hour increases which it does everytime a new major patch is released.

This is by no means the only issue with the paragon system, many other problems have already been discussed in this thread, I just want to point out one more thing that is mostly overlooked and which if left unchecked will result in progressively less close competition. I suppose it is subjective whether increasing power gaps or close competition matter to the game but I personally find it strange that the system works this way. Keep in mind that when the current paragon was introduced we did not yet have seasons/eras so there was no regularly scheduled power creep. Under those circumstances this specific issue didn't exist. It is actually the way the paragon system interacts with power creep that creates a scaling power gap and it's important to consider if that is good for the game.

On a different note bonus xp gear and the way xp bonuses are calculated in greater rifts are a far bigger issue for multiple reasons and any other flaws in the paragon system are magnified by these problems. Removing bonus xp gear from the game would be the single best thing Blizzard could do for the paragon system although the other issues presented in this thread and elsewhere need to be addressed at some point as well.

posted a message on Paragon 10000!
    Quote from Autocthongo-next

And how about we go and look at the actual time investiture difference between whatever arbitrary players we're comparing is between seasons? It does nothing to say players 1 and 60 have larger paragon gaps without also looking at their playtime gaps. Then we have to sit and look at how they reached that paragon (Rubies? Support builds? What are they ACTUALLY doing different). You need extensive and detailed information to make any REAL comparison between season leaderboards.

Valid point, I wanted to at least compare paragon earned against hours played but unfortunately the data wasn't available. I almost added a disclaimer but my post was too long as is. Even if you want to disregard that example though you should still be able to see that if you understand how the system works you can accurately determine that a widening power gap is inevitable.

Let me try a different sort of example based on math rather than incomplete statistics:

Every season/era there is power creep, this means we can farm paragon faster than before with each new patch. If this season we both farm paragon at a rate of 100 bil xp per hour and you play 5 hours a day but I play 6 then at the end of 1 week I will have gained 700 bil more xp than you.

Lets say next season power creep allows us to both farm 150 bil xp per hour. If we both play for the same number of hours again I will have 1050 bil more xp than you at the end of 1 week.

The difference between how much we both play doesn't change and yet the difference between your reward and mine increases. My previous example was certainly not scientific but by doing some basic math you can see that a similar outcome is inevitable just because of the systems current design.

(Disclaimer: 150 bil xp per hour next season is a number I pulled out my ass. No one knows what an accurate rate for farming xp next season/era is yet but surely we can all agree that next season/era we will be more powerful than this season/era and therefore able to farm paragon faster. This has already been demonstrated on the current PTR)

posted a message on Paragon 10000!

Let me try my hand at explaining the argument against the current paragon system:

The issue is not that playing more hours = more paragon = more power. I am not suggesting that those players who invest more time should not be rewarded for doing so. The issue is the rate of reward given relative to time spent is not a constant in this game. Due to the continuous power creep in each patch the amount of paragon you can earn in an hour becomes higher with every season/era. This ultimately means that the gap in power between players who invest more time and those who spend less time becomes bigger and bigger and will continue to do so with every new patch.

I would not ask for paragon caps or for paragon to not increase the power of your hero, I simply want the power differential between playing 4 hours a day and 5 hours a day (as an example) to remain constant with each new season/era.

Here is an example of what I mean about the widening power gap:

If you go to diabloprogress and look at the leaderboard for paragon earned in season 1 you will see that the number 1 paragon earner reached 1076 paragon by the end of the season. The number 60 earner achieved 877 paragon.

Do the math and you see that the difference in paragon between the highest earner and the 60th highest earner is 199 paragon or 995 mainstat.

Now do the same thing with the season 3 leaderboard and you see that the number 1 earner has already reached 1821 paragon while the number 60 earner has 1226 paragon. That's a difference of 595 paragon or 2975 mainstat. Even if you think Vajet is an anomaly comparing the number 2 earner to the number 60 results in a 416 paragon or 2080 mainstat difference.

Season 3 hasn't even finished and won't be as long as season 1 but already the difference in paragon between players is drastically larger than it was in season 1. This is because the paragon system has no provision to maintain a constant rate of reward to time invested. This trend will only continue with each patch creating larger and larger power gaps for the same differences in playtime unless the system is revised in some way.

Unfortunately I don't know if there is any way to stabilize the system without releasing the next expansion. Blizzard has stated that they never want you to log in to the game and feel less powerful than you were before. Making a retroactive change to paragon rewards would certainly do that. Conversely making a change to the system now with out applying it retroactively would give an unfair advantage to those who have already earned high paragons as other players would no longer be able to use the same means to catch up. The most likely scenario is for the next expansion to include an increase in max level from 70-80 as was done for RoS thereby allowing Blizzard to more or less reset everyone's paragon and implement a new paragon system with out negatively impacting anyone's power levels.

The point I believe of threads like this one is not to complain about haves and have not's but rather to bring attention to a system that has not kept up with other changes to the game in the hope that it will not be overlooked when the opportunity arises for Blizzard to re-balance the system and bring it back in line with the current direction of the game.

What I meant was the secondary: "Elemental Arrow - Ball Lightning now travels at 30–40% speed" is super important, you want it to be as low as possible. The other secondary has to be increased max discipline, the roll doesn't have to be a perfect 12 but you must have increased max disc on your quiver (and krider and chest).

posted a message on Gear parts for viable high grift UE build?

I can't see what gear you have for UE/Lightning but I can tell you that it is possible to push high 60's without ancient Krider if the rest of your gear is really good and you have the right group. My group has cleared 68 with a non ancient krider and I'm confident 69 maybe even 70 is possible with a good rift. If your Nat's gear is better and you are skilled at playing Nat's you might have better luck going that route though. Really depends which build you have the best gear for and how well you can play a Nat's DH.

The gear you want for lightning is all pretty straight forward but the most important thing besides the Krider is to get a meticulous bolts with 30-31 speed and good rolls. The secondary on the meticulous is one of the most significant damage boosts available for lightning build.

    Good luck!

The idea of making key farming something more engaging than max out movement speed and run around a map killing nothing while looking for the warden is a good idea. 15 minutes is waaaaaaaaaaay to long but your core concept is not bad. Maybe something similar to a cursed chest event would be more appropriate. The idea would be to kill x amount of enemies and then spawn the warden. The faster you can clear the faster you get your key and at least you're killing things rather than running around wildly, cursing and trying not to fall asleep.

When you roll away a DPS stat for a socket on jewelry your "sheet" dps will drop but the your "effective" dps will be increased in most cases by using the right leg gems. The colored arrows only take into account simple sheet dps stats (primary/CC/CD/IAS/Avg.DMG etc.) other stats like elemental damage, skill damage, elite damage and the potential value of sockets aren't measured by those indicators. To make matters worse attackspeed will always show as a DPS increase on your sheet but many builds don't really benefit from it. Focus on the stats on the jewellry and not the arrows. You can fairly safely assume that sockets are always worth it, roll the worst stat off of your rings and amulets for sockets and you will almost always come out ahead.

It's true that it is unbalanced the way that monks and crusaders can wear more xp gear than barbs and DH's but that doesn't make them leachers, it just means they are lucky. In reality the supports increase everyone's xp/hour even if they do get the lions share and they work just as hard as the dps classes in most cases. Best thing to do is play both sides and take turns so that everyone can share in the xp riches but there is no need to call people "leachers" just because they can wear more bonus xp gear.

posted a message on Plz no important season only items

I used to be completely against seasons, I mean why give up months of work farming gear and paragon right? Season one I played only till lvl 70 to get my transmog and then deleted my seasonal character so no one could ask me to play seasons with them (also needed another mule). As season 2 approached I became more and more tempted to try it out just to get a change of pace. Sure the season exclusives are neat but it's not that hard to wait for them to come around when the season ends. I went in thinking "lets try this and if it sucks I'll go back to normal before the end of the week". The only time I've spent in non-season since S2 started has been to delete characters to make more seasonal characters. I can't say you will feel how I do but to everyone who thinks seasons will rob you of all your hard work and effort I hope that at some point you give it a shot. I understand exactly why you don't think it's worth it because I felt the same way. I hope that if not in season 3 at some point you will try it out, find a group of friends and make a call to try it out for 2-3 days. Maybe you will love it like I love it, maybe it will reinforce your position that seasons aren't worth it, either way that's ok at least you'll know. There isn't that much to lose, just try it once for a couple of days and whatever the outcome at least you can be sure that you've made the right choice for you.

posted a message on season 2 drop rates

Do not trust whatever humans have to say about probability in an immersed context in which they have an interest in the outcome. The fallacies are everywhere, even apparent paradoxes. Graduate students in statistics are easily stumped if you transpose the problem into a practical context. It's part of how our brain works. At the most general level, the problem here is the change in perspective that comes when you've gotten the first rush of upgrades. Considering this, the drop rates are in my opinion way too high. When starting the season, all of us had a workable build within the second night (on hardcore even, where you take things more slowly).

From the perspective of getting the rudimentary gear required to enable a build, i.e. all set pieces with any roll, the drop rates are such that it doesn't feel like an accomplishment but rather something you are entitled to upon reaching 70. From the perspective of getting that exact item you so desperately want, with the roll you require, after the rest of your gear is already in the 98th percentile of quality, they will always and necessarily feel hopelessly low. You're not getting anything else to comfort you while waiting either, since you've got all but that one thing. And so you will look for ways to better your odds, and suddenly some fool claiming that the ancient furnace will drop from a particular weapon rack on a particular night of the week will start to seem like something you shouldn't dismiss off hand.

I'm quoting this post because it is so good people should read it twice, or as many times as it takes until they finally start to understand.

Something that helped me since posting above is watching video of other people's high Grift clears. I concentrated a bit more on dps than survivability and got up to about 1.2 mil paper dps then mimicked other people's play.

This is really good advice, not just with DH but in general. If you feel like you have the right gear but aren't getting the results you expect check out some streamers, youtube videos etc. and see how others are playing your build. Quite often the differences are things like positioning and timing which you can learn by watching others. As an example check out Wudijo's videos/stream if you want to see some top notch DH gameplay, you can't expect to be able to do everything he does just by watching but you will likely learn some valuable tactics that you can employ right away to improve your gameplay.

This is a really good point, when a regular gob or a chest drops loot all over the place on a speedrun I'm more likely to say "forget it it's not even worth the time it takes to pick it up" but when a bloodshard gob explodes I am more than happy to run in little circles watching all those purple beams disappearing. Before boon of the hoarder was introduced I was more likely to zigzag through the map to snag gold piles then to run off course and stop to pick up one yellow item. I think they've overestimated the sense of accomplishment we get from manually picking up mats. I wouldn't say that manually clicking has made me more aware of what I pick up either, when a pile of yellows/blues/gems etc. drops I just click at it wildly for 1.5 seconds and then run away with no real clue what I just picked up. Maybe we are just jaded though, maybe for new players or really casual players that stuff is exciting to pick up which I guess would be a good argument for an autopickup toggle in settings so players can decide for themselves if picking up salvage is meaningful.

The gearing and skills are different and the build has no use outside of group Grifts or Trials. Crestfall gave you excellent advice and that will take care of all your other needs and should be your primary focus, DPS first so you can farm and do bounties and whatnot. Once you reach the point where you want to do high level grifts in group you will be able to make a support Crusader very easily through crafting nearly all the gear. Here is the original guide in the build section: http://www.diablofans.com/builds/4579-zdps-crusader-for-high-gr-48 a few things have changed like using steedcharge/draw and quarter with swiftmount and using laws of hope/hopeful cry to feed globes to DH's but you said you've been watching streams so you'll figure it out when the time comes.

I've been playing around with some build variants that rotate spiritwalk and hex/angry chicken for movement speed with sacrifice/for the master as a nuke skill although I haven't gotten anything to a place where I feel it's quite right yet. I'd also like to hear about any other alterations WD's are making for T6 particularly if anyone has come up with other effective methods for unloading large amounts of burst damage that don't require any ramp up time.

posted a message on Am I the only one for whom the introduction of ancient items basically ruins the game?
I agree with the OP in the respect that the most satisfaction I get from Diablo is trying to reach near perfection on a characters gear set. In Vanilla I reached a point where the only upgrades left for my monk could only be found on d2jsp for ridiculous prices and I walked away from the game feeling like there was no progression left for me. In RoS I play all of the classes and haven't perfected any gearsets yet but I could feel the stagnation setting in on some builds. This is why I have to disagree about the ancient items ruining my quest for gear perfection. For me they reinvigorate my desire to farm because now I can attain an even higher level of gear awesomeness for all of my classes and builds and extend the game to a certain degree. Maybe the reality is that I enjoy the quest for perfection more than actually accomplishing it or maybe the reward at the end will feel even greater for the extra challenge to get there. Maybe I'm just afraid of running out of things to do if I don't enjoy the second season. Whatever the reason ancient items have enhanced the game for me.

I just do it the lazy way and go hit things in weeping hollow and look at the crit. numbers. I also use diabloprogress to compare the elemental damage and elite/elemental damage of various setups. Keep in mind that even with a formula to calculate a comparison the furnace and maximus will both be situational due to the elite damage and the fire dmg + firechain proc so you might get the best assessment from timing some runs or doing Ghom tests.

Sorry for your loss. I have encountered a bug in softcore where grabbing a pylon immediately after proccing awareness results in the pylon being used without applying any effect to my DH. This has happened to me more than once with multiple pylon types. On a side note I have also noticed that when grabbing shield pylons with nemesis bracers on that the elites frequently get a hit in on me before the shield kicks in.

With T6 being as fast as it is right now it is certainly possible for dedicated players to have decked out a character in full ancients already without resorting to botting. All it takes is a lot of time and a little RNG. I've seen it firsthand, not everyone with all ancients is botting, some are just lucky.

posted a message on How do rockets work?
For T6 I prefer Maelstrom to LfB. With ballistics the rockets are too good, you just fire a cluster arrow at the highest HP mob and watch your rockets swarm and wipe out all of the trash on the screen. It's true that you can get an extra elemental roll in a fire build from cindercoat and I wouldn't use an Etrayu either but I find the massive AoE of all those rockets makes up for lesser elemental damage when you have trash mobs scattered all over the place. For group Grifts I would run fire for sure though since the support should be gathering the mobs up nice and tight.

If you want to see the outcome of different weapon rerolls you can use this calculator: http://paragoncalculator.com/damage_calculator.php
That will not tell the whole story though, keep in mind that IAS is not applicable to some builds and creates deceptive sheet damage while a stat like CDR can in some builds allow more frequent attacks even though it won't affect your sheet dps.

edit: Forgot about the elite damage bonus on the furnace, that's another consideration although I'm not sure how to calculate that as it is situational.

posted a message on Why finish rifts after guardian is dead?
I used to swear by closing the rift after the guardian, it's simple: more blood shards per hour and more xp per hour if you ignore the time required to farm rift keys which I usually had stacks of. Before 2.1.2 I started running with some fast groups that liked to full clear and that got me going back and forth between methods depending on how fast the overall group was. With this patch playing on my DH I pretty much have to full clear, I mean seriously the RG spawns in about a minute in a good group. I don't have the patience to farm bounties for rift keys if a rift only lasts a minute or less.

TL:DR I prefer full clear to cut down on bounties but you can make an argument for either method.

Chest is not bad in my opinion, try to get pants with all resist and then switch all the gems in your chest from diamonds to rubies. Try to farm an amulet with CC instead of attackspeed and an SoJ with Phys bonus. If you are below 55% CDR use a vigilante belt if not then cross your fingers for a witching hour. RoRG could be CC, CD, or CDR instead of vit. Other than that level your leg gems as high as you can, keep earning paragon points and keep farming until even more perfectly rolled or ancient pieces drop. If you are maintaining perma-akkarat you should be able to drop your generator and run shield glare/divine verdict or judgement/resolved for some extra damage. Yes Hellfire amulet is good, Ideally with one of the passives you already use or Holy cause.

You should gamble for Akkhan shoulders and gloves to get the set bonus, even better if you can get them with CDR. The closer you get to perma-champion the easier T6 is going to get for you especially if you use the prophet rune. In the meantime here is something you might want to try, You have an eternal union ring and a phalanx shield in your stash, replace your shield with the phalanx shield and change out the manald heal for the eternal union. Change one of your skills for phalanx bowmen and maybe swap out a gem for pain enhancer. The bowmen will let you kite around a bit more while still outputting damage. If you still have survivability issues consider running iron skin or a defensive law rather than critical.

edit: I just noticed the travellers pledge on your templar, I can't see if it is rerolled or not but if it is still virgin then at some point you should consider rerolling the life% to crit chance and equipping it on your crusader.

posted a message on Pet WD with 2.1.2
Depends what your idea of "competitive" is. Pet doctor will likely sit just a hair lower on the leaderboards than the other classes you mentioned with all else being equal. As for Monk and Crusader having an advantage due to craftable weapons, I wouldn't sweat that too much. Furnace and Incense torch perform so well that even perfect crafted ancient weapons aren't really upgrades over well rolled non-ancient BiS weapons (based on my testing anyways). Based on your profile it looks like you are still searching for those particular weapons so if you have the mats to go crafting crazy then sure you would get a jump out of the gate if you are lucky crafting weapons but in the long run you would still need to farm BiS weapons to be at the top of the leaderboards. Don't forget though that as a pet doc you could craft ancient Aughilds set and ancient Cains set on day one if you save enough mats so that's a nice opportunity if you do decide to go for it.

If you enjoy playing pet doctor I say farm an SMK (doesn't have to be ancient), enjoy playing and be happy with what you can do on the leaderboard with what you have. If you really just want to get the highest tier solo clear possible regardless of class then I guess focus on your DH instead. Whatever makes you happy.

@ComparativeLiterature: You are correct, I misinterpreted the comment about the automatic level choice but it seems we are agreed and I think the streamlined approach is indeed the best scenario for the players and the developers.

I'm not sure that the key purchase system is so far out from what Blizz is looking for though. That system doesn't eliminate trials altogether but rather prevents the need to retrial a level you have already proven to be competent at. If the purpose of the trial is to determine a suitable Grift level it seems a little redundant to have to continuously trial in order to be allowed to run a Grift level that you have already successfully completed. I think Blizzard said something to the effect that this is the equivalent of checking a childs height every time before allowing them to enter a theme park ride repeatedly. I agree that just moving to a vendor only system is trouble waiting to happen but I think there may be potential in a system that maintains trials but doesn't require you to continuously prove you are capable of something that you have already accomplished.

At the same time I suspect that Blizz is feeling very invested in the trial system at this point and I don't know if they would allow players to completely outperform the need to ever use it again.

I agree with the other posters that Etrayu is most effective with Calamity edging it out in some group scenarios. One thing to consider though, if absolute max efficiency is not your only concern then spend some time with the Kridershot as well, it is a great training tool for the upcoming patch since it encourages you to practice aiming, positioning and damage avoidance skills that will be required in the new M6 builds.

@ComparitiveLiterature: A better solution than excessive interfaces would probably be to just actually make keys salable to the merchants for one gold a piece. If we botch a trial and get a useless key we should be able to get rid of it somehow. I would still like to pick my trial level because only my DH can farm keys of the level my other classes are actually running yet my DH can trial much higher than that. If for example I want a 40 key for my crusader I currently have to sandbag the trial on DH. If the game were to pick the trial level I'm not sure how to target the right key level for alts that cannot trial their own keys. I would be pretty content if I could pick my starting trial level and then if successfully cleared the game automatically moved me to a higher trial level but I could just TP out of the realm of trials and stick with the original key level.

@Bleu42: This is an interesting take on the idea of unlocking the highest level achieved concept. I like that in your system you cannot buy keys of the highest level trialed but only of the highest level Grift successfully cleared. As you said this prevents the spamming of Grifts at a level that is way over your realistic capacity. How would you suggest handling the situation with groups? For example if a group clear a tier 50 Grift and purchase a stack of tier 50 keys what stops them from using those keys later for solo attempts? Or should that be allowed?

I thought dual wielding meant each crossbow will have it's own breakpoint and they will alternate as you fire. sentries currently snapshot breakpoints so whichever xbow is next in line will determine the breakpoint when you place a sentry. If you open your sheet and fire you should be able to see the aps change as you switch hands with each shot. If i'm right and the APS changes after each shot then you have 2 breakpoints. If i'm wrong then someone smarter will call me an idiot and explain it to you (hopefully).

Not sure why you wouldn't want a level above what you want if the game can accurately assess that you make it in that level, but I see your point: I want X of this level, so give me X of it if I make it. This way, the player only decides what level they get and it removes the game from having to do any of the deciding on the higher end. Good thought. Thanks.

As I mentioned above, I see the reasoning to losing keystones if you don't make it, but there is a reason to giving them back: qualitatively lowering the barrier to entry. If a player knows they will lose a key by not making it, they may never choose to really push themselves without the game giving them a next higher keystone. Refunding puts it in the players hand to push themselves. Plus, in multiplayer games, a group may think they are stronger than what they really are, and so innocently overshoot their collective ability. Should they incur a cost due to an honest mistake? Well, as you guys suggest, perhaps; and I 'm not totally against you. But, in terms of revamping the system and getting people to use it as much as rifts, the economic cost to players needs to be as low as possible. As it is now, you have to do bounties then rifts before you can even start to do GRs. Of course, this is really only an issue at the beginning of a character. Yet, we as players need to put ourselves in the developers shoes, and the devs are going to design a system that works for the high level guys and is at least accessible for the low level guys. We should understand this. It's the right thing for them to do. It seems to me that no cost to failure is the right way to go, initially. That could change though.

You are right, Blizz wouldn't want new players with only one or two trial keys to just lose those keys because they cannot guess what wave they can handle. How about at the end of a trial an interface similar to Urshi appears and gives two choices: If you pass the wave option A= rift key of the same level as the wave completed while option B offers you a shot at a higher level wave with the level being determined by your clear speed. If you fail a wave option A= a rift key lower than the wave level you failed calculated based on your performance, Option B= take your gold and XP and go home without a key so you can try again. Lastly if you pass a wave and take option B for the higher wave but then fail the higher wave you will still be offered a key of at least the same level as the wave you had initially cleared.

This way you are forced to expend a keystone but you are also guaranteed to walk away with a Grift key if you so choose. At the same time you are not required to take keys you don't want.

I really like the idea of starting at the trial wave of your choice. I'm not sure about the elite's but even just fighting a single wave for a single key using the same enemies currently in trials would be a MASSIVE time saver and a HUGE QOL improvement. Good thinking!

edit: After some more thought I'd like it if the trial gave exactly the desired key on success and just consumed the key and gave nothing on a failure, I really don't need more indestructible/unsaleable/nondroppable lower than desired keys clogging up my already overflowing stash.

I can't say how things are in public but I can imagine. The reality is Crusader builds stack CDR, frequently use the Lord Commander passive and pretty rarely have a skill that would compete for a slot with Steed Charge so most Crusaders have mobility available almost by default. With proper gearing and skill selection on T6 the other classes with the exception of maybe WD should have no problem keeping up with a Crusader the majority of the time. The problem is more that the others classes/builds aren't naturally forced to setup for maximum mobility so people tend to prioritize dmg or mitigation rather than mobility.

It really depends what you hope to get from the season. If you want to go for ranking you're probably going to need some pretty spectacular RNG to catch up. If you just want a change of pace for your XP and loot farming or a shot at some seasonal only legs before they become available to everyone then go nuts. If it's fun, it's fun, if not, what have you got to lose?

I was hoping that, as damage is lowered, and players resistence augmented, players can take one jailer/thunderstorm witouth dying.

In this scenario monk or crusader may be better (better +dmg and tool to group mobs), and for 2players double dps became viable.
The reduced damage taken combined with the improved density results in everyone running much higher tiers than on live and ultimately we will probably end up taking similar damage to the current live game just on a higher tier than we could have reached before.

I'm going to agree with Jamoose, if you socket your FD now you will be able to farm more effectively and will in turn find your next gift and the weapon you want to use it on that much faster. The patch is probably at least a month out and despite how long it took to find that first gift I would be surprised if you don't find another one by the time the patch goes live.

Both mass confusion and haunt will give 20% more damage but if you can maintain the haunt on elites and the RG it will most likely be superior to mass confusion's ability to apply the debuff to multiple enemies in a single cast. It needs to be tested but it sounds promising.

The change to M6 on PTR at the moment is crazy strong and really fun to play. T6 is rediculous, drop sentry, hit cluster arrow, everything is dead, rinse, repeat. My gear is awful but I was clearing greater rifts much faster than on live. Blizz may have to tone down the damage on this set before it goes live but this sure as hell is not a nerf at the moment.

You have to be a bit more careful not to die without prophet but the damage is pretty good and tier 30 shouldn't be a problem for this build. You can change laws of justice to iron skin/steel skin and long arm of the law to indestructible if you prefer, in fact for Grifts that would probably be better. Good luck.

As much as I want some of the suggestions in this thread I suspect they will go with something that is non class/build/skill specific, more along the lines of the shard of hate (although they kinda screwed DH on that one). My suggestion for an everyone can use it leg is a ring or amulet with the ability to give the player elite affixes, something like:

"5-10% chance on killing an elite pack to gain a random elite affix for 20 seconds"

It's about time we got to throw down some arcane sentries or become electrified. I'd love to see a 4 man group running around with fire chains between them as well. They could call it a lesser soulstone ring or something like that to justify absorbing elites and gaining their powers.

Your shotgun build looks pretty decent but if you want to progress further I STRONGLY urge you to put together a stampede build. I have both builds geared up reasonably well and stampede is just way better. If you have a furnace you should be set in no time, if not run a heartslaughter and farm that stubborn elusive furnace, either way stampede is the way to go.

On another note, you need to socket some jewellry and add in some leg gems, they are too good not to use. With your current shotgun build I'd suggest mirinae, trapped and powerful. If you get a stampede build going I'd recommend pain, trapped, and gogok or powerful or mirinae.

It's really hard to give specific suggestions without being able to see your profile but as a general suggestion you should check Deadsets guide for new crusaders, he's much more helpful than I could be: http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/2753k6/how_to_gearing_a_beginner_crusader_detailed_guide/

If it takes "ages" to kill elites on T1 I'd probably stick to master until you improve your gear or find a more effective build, it's generally more effficient to kill in a reasonable time on a lower difficulty than to kill slowly on a high one, you can however test this simply by tracking xp and legs per hour on master vs T1 to be sure.

In regards to your question about healing, the build you run will influence it somewhat but the majority of the time LoH and life per wrath are the best choices, LpK and LpS are just not as good.

Lastly, you probably know this already but get yourself the Akkhan set, this is critical to putting together any of the top crusader builds.

    Good luck!

Nicely written guide. Personally I prefer Powerful or Mirinae to Zei's as the 3rd gem but I think you nailed pretty much everything else on the Stampede build. I am curious about support builds, I've seen the setups but haven't actually tried it out yet as I'm skeptical that they provide the same level of value a ZDPS monk or WD would. If anyone has a video of a group running with a support sader on a Tier 40+ rift it would be great if they could link it, I'm kind of curious to see the build in action.

posted a message on Anyone with t6 Roland's experience, how can I improve my character?
I've tried so many Rolands builds I've lost count. Although I've still not found one that can compete with certain akkhan builds there are a few builds out there that can definitely faceroll T6. As was mentioned earlier Rolands set with bowmen can be good, I can do 6 min solo clears with a setup like that, I wrote a build guide but everyone seems to hate it because it got downvoted to 0 lol. Fire sweep is decent with cindercoat and maximus but was never as fast as phys/sweep/bowmen for me. Shield bash with depth diggers and angel hair braid is ok, but I found in groups there was really no need for the generator and solo it ran very slowly for me. My current favorite Rolands build is Mannercookies fire bash build, check his twitch highlights or youtube, it should be there. If you decide to mess around and come up with something new I suggest that to overcome the inherent squishiness of Rolands set that you run around 30ish CDR and then equip 2 of the 4 following skills: laws of justice/immovable object, ironskin/steelskin, champion/prophet, consecrate. My personal preference is immovable object with either consecrate or ironskin. I also recommend playing around with adding in bowmen via eternal union and/or unrelenting phalanx in some builds, more so with sweep attack since dropping the piro mirella in bash builds is pretty iffy.

Since you mention that you're really just trying to make your current build stable enough to farm for other builds I won't suggest major gear changes but if you need to tank up a bit and you don't want to drop all of that firestarter damage you can try dropping laws of valour/critical and replacing it with laws of justice/immovable object. Especially with the longarm passive on your hellfire you can get a lot of extra defence which will hopefully at least allow you to survive T6 so you can farm towards the builds you really want. Alternately you may want to try wrathful instead of indestructible, the extra heal might be more valuable than a second life but you'll have to test and see what works better for you.

Leg gems are pretty awesome, I think mandatory if you really want to max out a character. Even the difference one gem makes is pretty noticeable when you use the right ones for your build. It only takes a few hours to get a gem to lvl 25 if you do it right, level a couple gems and try them out, I don't think you will be disappointed.

posted a message on Did anyone actually try a bowmen build for grift 35+?
Just wanted to add a couple things in response to what others posted:

Regarding Gathering Sweep and/or Rolands set, I've done tons of testing on those, even wrote a build guide for it:http://www.diablofans.com/builds/1858-roland-and-friends . Pretty near maxed this build out, you can check out my setup:http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/KaiserQwerty-1926/hero/51266885 and the truth is Akhan set with FotH is superior. RasAlgethi helped me test out the Rolands build (he has the Taskers that still elude me) and we both agree that the perma-Akarat Firestarter FotH build is superior. His build is my current favorite crusader pet build for farming T6. For the extra tankiness which you will need if you want to push mid 30 tiers then the Prophet/Reverberation setup is the most promising setup I have tried yet. For T6 farm/bounties/trials I am loving Ras' Firestarter/Heavens Tempest combo.

your stats, 20% phys, 30% phalanx, 40% elite, could also be better. I am currently at 67% physical, 49% phalanx, 44% elite (elite will drop due to I would have to change to RoRG instead of Unity, but if I got a Furnace it would be around 75-80%)
You are overlooking the fact that you will lose all 44% of that elite damage from your Unity and SoJ when you switch to RoRG and Eternal Union as well as losing the 19% phys on the SoJ. Switching to a Furnace means losing the 29% phys on the Heartslaughter. You will end up with 19% phys (bracers) and whatever elite %(40-50) rolls on the Furnace. I'm guessing you got the phalanx bonus off your sheet because there are only 3 slots on gear for it and each can only roll to 15%. We both have it on helm and boots so it looks like if you get the ring and furnace you will be sitting at almost exactly the same numbers as me. Yes my gear could be a little better and yes if you put together perfect gear I think you might just exceed Tier 35 if you get awesome rift RNG and play perfectly but it will be a challenge. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just putting it in perspective.

I think a good solution would be to allow access to the inventory of characters you are not currently playing, doesn't have to be their whole inventory just the equipped items. It's not just leg gems I swap back and forth but jewellery and weapons etc. I would like to see an interface that works similarly to the follower inventory, basically right click on your avatar picture thingy in the top left corner of the screen, select view profile, select the character you want to swap gear with, and that character profile opens up showing their equipped gear (exactly as it does now). Then you open your active inventory and drag and drop gear from your alt to your current inventory or from your inventory to the equipment slots on your alt exactly as you currently do with your follower. This would save a lot of time jumping in and out of games to swap gear and gems when you want to change classes or builds (also allow you to throw stuff on mules faster to keep your stash from overflowing).

posted a message on Did anyone actually try a bowmen build for grift 35+?
Ok ran this build all day yesterday and I have to say it seems pretty good so far. I did attempt to push it on Grifts but I couldn't pass 34 (timer expires right about the time the RG spawns). I ran it with a Furnace and 1.3m sheet dps, 20% phys, 30% phalanx, 40% elite. I do not have taskers unfortunately so I ran 5 pc. Akhan, Leorics crown, Vigilante belt, RoRG, Eternal Union, Unrelenting Phalanx. Gems were pet, pain, trapped. Passives: finery, heavenly strength, holy cause, lord commander. Skills were exactly what you had suggested. I didn't have a problem with survivability but the reality was the damage output wasn't on par with stampede and I just couldn't kill things fast enough to beat the timer. As Arcano30 pointed out the bowmen spread their damage to much a lot of the time and shoot at zero progress enemies while ignoring elites etc. Rift gaurdians also take longer to kill with bowmen than with stampede for me.

Bottom line is that with my gear (and no taskers) stampede can clear 34 with time still on the clock every time but bowmen would have needed an amazing rift to clear on time. Can this build do 35+? Yes I think it could but you're going to need very close to perfect gear and good rift RNG.

On a different note, I decided to do some farming tests on T6 (this is where I think pet crusader builds shine). After trying all 3 obvious weapon choices Furnace/Heart Slaughter/Baleful Remnant and averaging out the times of back to back solo runs I found that the Baleful Remnant was the clear winner. Average T6 solo times where roughly 8 mins. with Heart Slaughter, 7 mins with Furnace, and 6 mins with Baleful. All of these times could be improved with better rolled weapons but for the record all 3 weapons were rolled in the mid 3400 dps range so they where fairly equal in quality. I added in a Harringtons belt and times were closer to 5 and a 1/2 minutes per run on average even though I was short on CDR. In fairness I think my stampede setup can probably run just as fast but this was a nice change of pace and the novelty of pet setups hasn't worn off for me just yet.

Anyways good build, I like it, people who want to run pets should try it and if someone does pull off 35+ with it (Kayba7 kinda sounds like you are suggesting that you have?) I would like to hear what you're setup was or better yet see a video.

This is actually a really interesting idea, I've run numerous pet builds since 2.1 but I hadn't thought of using FoTH reverberation to proc strongarms and BoT. I'll test this out later today and let you know how it goes. Honestly I wouldn't expect 35+, based on similar pet builds I have tried out you're probably going to cap out around tier 35 but even if it's not as strong as stampede it never hurts to have another viable build option for variety.

posted a message on What stats are needed to run GRIFT 30`?
Your gear is not bad actually and your stats look pretty reasonable, I'd try to stack a little more CDR to maintain perma-akarat and you could change out 2 or 3 of the diamonds in your gear for rubies but otherwise not to shabby. Have you tried to solo 30+ ? It looks to me like maybe the issue is more with your group than you personally, looks like you are pretty well setup already.

edit: It's also possible you got a really bad rift, I've failed rifts by a couple of minutes (damn you corrupted angels!) only to run the same tier minutes later and clear with 4-5 minutes to spare. Might just be bad luck, keep at it I'm sure you can do it.

If you're going to use a RoRG you can get more CDR by running 5pc. Akkhan with a Vigilante belt and a Leorics crown than with Crimsons set. I think that guide was written before the helm was updated and the belt added. you can also use a level 25 or higher Gogok gem to make up even more CDR although it's a little inconsistent when you have gaps in combat.

I've tested both heartslaughter and furnace with stampede and it wasn't even close, furnace is so much better. That said not having strength on the furnace is a problem. If it was me I would ramaladni the furnace, reroll CDR to strength and then pickup the CDR on my other gear. Between Leorics crown, the vigilante belt and Gogok gem there are plenty of ways to get enough CDR for perma-akarat without a CDR roll on your weapon.

My Rolands spec solos Tier 30 no unity easy but going higher than that gets brutally difficult. I thought I read somewhere that the devs were aware that the defense on Rolands is lacking and are considering future improvements, I wouldn't expect any changes to the set until at least the end of the first season though. In the mean time there are some decent Rolands builds out there for farming T6 and running tier 30 or less, doing bounties etc. I actually prefer a Rolands sweep attack/bowmen build to shotgun/stampede/firelight for speed farming T6 rifts and doing bounties because it actually clears faster due to better AoE. I've settled on Rolands for T6 farming and stampede for Grifting and in that combination each build has unique strengths that give them both value. That's not to say I wouldn't mind if Blizz graced Rolands set with a little more toughness in a future patch but it's not entirely useless now either.

When I run the phys. build in groups I use it only up to the low 30's and then I switch to shotgun or stampede from there up for the extra safety of prophet but I understand you are at the mercy of the RNG gods and can only run what you have.

posted a message on Fire Rolands Sweep build
I ran a build for a while that looked like this, best fire Roland's damage I could squeeze out was:

    5 Pc. Rolands

    Cindercoat

    Maximus

Fire Lidless Wall or Hellskull (both gave equal damage on my build, I preferred the Hellskull for the CDR)

    SoJ & RoRG

Witching hour or Harringtons depending on the situation

    Reapers wraps

    Skills were:

    sweep attack/blazing

    laws of justice/immovable object

    provoke/too scared

    iron skin/steel skin

    steed charge/endurance or nightmare

    akarats champ/firestarter

    passives:

    heavenly strength

    lord commander

    finery

    wrathful

This worked pretty well for me, the Maximus is easily the biggest damage boost, positioning the fire chain through elite packs makes a world of difference.

Hope that gives some helpful ideas. You may also want to take a look at my Physical Rolands Pet build http://www.diablofans.com/builds/1858-roland-and-friends, I see you have most if not all the gear for it. I switched from fire Rolands sweep build to phys Rolands sweep/pet build and haven't looked back.
