To me the wizard has a different feel than the sorc. With the sorc you definitely had the glass cannon feel. All magic users potentially look homogeneous but there are differences. The wizard seems more like the run in and blow everything up without asking questions later type. Maybe the actually game play will be more telling. We'll find out I gues.

    • Will day-night changes, atmosferic effects (snow, rain,...) amd terrain differences ( sand, grass, altitude,...) have an influence on monster's AI, character's behaviour and overall gameplay? If so how?
    silver_wings #98

    • Can you talk a bit about storage/chest/horadric cube, and how item management will be improved in Diablo 3? Will there be an (near) infinite amount of room, renameable tabs, etc?
    Ivaron #87

    • If a player feels like a change of environment, will there will an incentive to go back to previous acts or parts in the story and find new content unlocked there?
    Ivaron #87

    • Will there bee a mechanic similar to the waypoint system, or will we have to travel to each area ourselves?
    gyrextt #64

    • What improvements are they making with mercenaries; will they have skill trees/stat points which we can allocate? Also, is there any chance of seeing previous D2 characters as mercenaries?
    b-rabbit #55

    • Are attributes returning and in what form?
    InstantLite #42

    • Will we have an advanced stats window showing stats like:
    - Magic find
    - Increased attack speed
    - Increased spell casting speed
    - Fast Run rate
    - Fast Block rate
    - Recovery from hit speed

    • Pertaining to that, Diablo II didn't have much storyline or that feeling you get when you read a book; it had cinematics between Acts, but maybe a few minutes, as compared to the roughly 5 hours of gameplay.
How will Diablo III be more immersed in the story, the feeling of being in an entirely other world and learning that world every minute, as opposed to fighting monsters for a quest with a short story you received from an NPC and a cinematic between Acts?

    • Are Blizzard implementing a new system for skill usage that will encourage a player to spread out their skill points rather then save them up for the big skills at the bottom of the skill trees?

    • Are you taking any steps to prevent/reduce rushing?

posted a message on MTV - Necromancer May Return, Diablo 3 Expansion Confirmed?
:o I love the necro! Well this made my day. . . possibly. I think that the expansion is a great place to bring back old characters. It seems like that way people are forced to try out the new but will eventually get the chance to go back to the revamped (hopefully) old classes.

posted a message on Guns in Diablo 3? Maybe?
Twenty years isn't that long considering the isolated view we had in D2. While we traveled all over, for the most part we only visited 4 real places where humans thrived. There should be a greater variety of people in D3 so it is plausible someone already had guns but news didn't reach us in the D2 story line.

I personally think it would be very fun to have guns that could have bullets that are magically enhanced. I always felt that was a key element missing from bolts and arrows in D2. Why not let ammo be altered and enhanced as well? A poisoning, exploding, zombie seeking, blessed bullet sounds cool to me.

I think that they realize that cheating is a real problem and will address it more aggressively. I think Blizzard has realized the negative impact of gold selling, set selling, and faked items. This type of gaming business is about customer satisfaction. If we aren't satisfied with a challenge because people are cheating and ruining the fun it is bad for business. I almost am hesitant to buy D3 because there was rampant cheating but I trust they will address this issue better than in D2.

posted a message on Less in hell?
I would imagine hell could be accessed from many different points throughout the realm of sanctuary not just one entry point. Demons are all over, chances are they don't commute.(you know, eco-friendly and all) Basically I feel that we may see the bad place several times or even different section of it. 7 levels of hell in Dante's inferno, I think. That is a lot of places to visit.

posted a message on Diablo III vs Hellgate: London
I feel that article brought up a lot of great points. One thing that it neglected, and that I find very important, is that FSS is not a well established game developer with years of experience, independence, and vast resources. (like blizzard)

Here is my point: If FSS had not played up the idea that this would be a D3 or even said they were from blizzard I would think that in its own right HGL has a lot of things going for it. The level randomization is beautiful and diverse in some areas, other it sucks. The items are intertaining and the being able to dismantle the components and create something new and better is one of my favorite parts of the game. Even the fight is pretty good most of the time.

But FSS is not Blizzard. They had evil overlords directing their actions and wanting deadlines and due dates. The first games blizzard put out were not spectacular but very entertaining. It took time to get to the point where they had the ability to say we will never put out a game that isn't ready. FSS has bills to pay. A lot of them I am guessing, as game developement has changed dramatically over the last ten or fifteen years. It went from a small group of coders with some knowledge of graphics splicing together a game in a short amount of time that was fairly interesting and being a hit to modern day where development takes years, huge staffs dedicated to the multiple different aspects of the game(texturing, shading, coloring, splines, art design, physics, AI, etc.), and massive ressources to accomplish it all in a realitively short amount of time so that you don't go completely broke in the process. Its hard and I don't think we, the gaming community as a whole, credit for what they have accomplished. They shot for the stars and fell short. Oh well, they have another great game, Mythos which really hasn't recieved the credit it deserves as being far more D2 like with great elements and a lot of fun.(Honestly, the first time I played Mythos I suddenly found that I had blown more than 3 hours of time and had not even realized it. That is a sign of a good game.)

I agree with the author on many points. HGL is not D3 and is not nearly good enough. One thing I though was funny that one of the titles in the article was "The Day the Music Dies" when honestly HGL has some of the best adaptive music scores I have ever hear with very excellent sound effects. I will state unequivocally that I disagree with the idea that they stole production notes from their former employers.

    That is my two bits.

Just because :necro: wont we returning, doesnt mean that corpse explosion will not be returning aswell. Hey, they may have a new attack, "Corpseless Explosion!" basically telekenesis.

Yeah! Hope is renewed! Although causing monster minds to spontaneously explode through sheer thought does sound like a fun skill. Might have problems with skeletons though^_^

You probably dont know european history and you dont deserve the answer... but just because U.S.A is saying F.Y.R.O.M as Macedonia that doesnt mean that the name has been recognize oficially by anyone! so.. keep your idiotic thought and read history and learn about it!

Wow! Such hate! :P You are right my European History education is focused more on the Baltic area rather than the Balkans. But honestly there is no need to get rude about it. Here I was assuming that because the U.N. and the EU considered the name FYROMacedonia legitimate that they would be considered people other than the US that recognize it as such. I guess I was wrong!

Haeon: Thanks for looking that up! Even though it is old it doesn't mean it doesn't fit. Thank you.

Edit: It seems that the governing body there like to refer to themselves as the Republic of Macedonia perhaps we should refer to them as they wish to be called.

Please do look up that source Haeon. I am very interested in that. I don't remember hearing that from Bliz but it would be a very important element in the storyline and how the game play works.

off-topic but Macedonia is a city in Greece and not a country!

i think after the first few battles in D3 we will not care about corpses. and here is my logic... the enemies are demons and creatures of hell right? so after they die the body's are dissapearing and they are going back to hell... its pretty logic to me... :)

Hey look! Foot in mouth. While it may be a city in greece it is also a country right next to albania and bulgaria.:D

Maybe you should trust the guy who lives there.

    A bit offtopic:
They have thought about how much time they want to spend on different aspects of the game, and also about the quality requirements. You can't simply say 'we will spend on infinite amount of time on everything, so that everything will be perfect'. Some people seem to think it works like this. I am talking about people saying they want 7(or more?) classes. Do we want 5 good classes? Or 7 less good classes? Or 100 crap classes? Or 1 perfect class? They think 5 is a good number, probably cause it worked well with diablo 2.

More off topic: going along with what timmen said also remember that 5 classes were in D2 and it bumped up to 7 in the expansion so there is always more time to add in two classes if an expansion will give the benefit of time and balancing.

But there are more than enough workarounds that still acknowledge your destruction of an area. For instance...

My only gripe with this is that it still removes corpse game mechanics (like redemption). So let's take it a step further. We're fighting hellspawn right? How about... when we kill them, they disintegrate in something of a soft firey/ember ash effect after 10 or so seconds, leaving behind a decal of well... ash instead of a 3d corpse. Add some bump mapping, to make it actually look like a pile ash, and...

    1. We maintain low system specs
    2. We maintain corpse game mechanics
    3. We maintain a sense of carnal progress

Not to mention different types of enemies could have different types of corpse decay, making the game much richer.

That is a good idea. I was thinking purely of bodies but I suppose the decay into something less graphically intensive like a sprite of ash or bones would probably work and it wouldn't take away to the feel of the game. Probably the opposite in fact. Go spam that to Blizzard:spam:

Has anyone considered that they simply don't have a choice in the matter. Top Blizzard guys may just say, "the game has to meet a minimum of x specs. Work around that number." They may just be trying to save on resources and not have a billion bodies lying around. Who knows, maybe they left the corpses around in a test and found on some levels the demand made on the computers were just too high because the body count is astronomical.
