posted a message on Strafe and Broken Promises

I'm looking into making some Legacy of Nightmares Strafe-focused builds and I've recently been contemplating replacing my cubed Convention of Elements with Broken Promises (specifically for solo play). Here's my reasoning:

Convention of Elements: Provides a nice elemental boost (200% increased damage) 25% of the time. Since a strafe-centered build would likely be based around perma-strafe, you wouldn't be saving hatred dump for the elemental cycle of your choice like you would with multishot or cluster arrow. Thus, the ring ends up being approximately a 50% damage increase. Sure, you might add other skills in the mix but for now I'm assuming Strafe is the main damage.

Broken Promises: I looked at some old numbers, and for 1.15 aps (where you'll be at dual-wielding the two strafe xbows with no additional attack speed), you get somewhere between 4 and 5 ticks per second. This means it'll take you just over a second to proc and gives you 3 seconds of 100% crit. I read some math that somebody did and they said it came out to around 71% crit chance for that many attacks per second. This is of course discounting the fact that you may have a move like fan of knives that could help proc it or knives from sash of knives. The stats you could have put toward crit chance can now be used on other useful stats. As well, if you're using the Stinging Steel rune, you get additional damage from crits.

I feel like the benefits of Broken Promises are higher for a strafe build than the benefits of Convention of Elements. Sure it's a total pain re-rolling all your crit but for someone who's dedicated to the build, it could be worthwhile. What do you think?

posted a message on My build is MIA. Anyone able to help?

I actually had the exact same thing happen. I posted my build and later went back to edit it. After submitting it, it had an error and was gone. I remade my build and the same thing happened.

I had no links so that can't be the problem with yours. It may be something to do with editing a build as that's what caused both of my losses.

I reposted my build all in one go so I'm finally safe but I'm afraid to ever edit it for that reason.

Thanks for the response. Perhaps I misinterpreted how snapshotting works but from what I had read, it sort of "take a picture" of your stats when you begin casting certain moves and then it keeps those stats throughout the move, only readjusting when you stop casting and recast. If this is the case, I don't think your stats numbers reflect the snapshot. If it's not the case, then I have no idea how snapshotting works.

posted a message on Demon Hunter Snapshotting

I've been interested in building a perma-strafe build using Legacy of Nightmares and I've been looking into buffs to use. I know that you used to be able to snapshot Shadow Power (Gloom rune) by casting it before strafing. By doing this, you kept the damage reduction effect the entire time you were strafing. I'm wondering if this is still possible. I tried it out and noticed that mid-strafe, my defense numbers would drop off when Shadow Power ended. Does this mean it's not being snapshot or are my stats just not reflecting the numbers that I'm snapshotting at?

If it is working but just not reflected in my stats page, does anyone know if other abilities like Vengeance Dark Heart and Companion snapshot in a similar way?

posted a message on Why do *you* love Diablo?

Like mentioned above, build diversity is the hugest thing for me. I think D3 has come into this in the best way in 2.4 (especially when it comes to DH). We now have 4 viable sets and with LoN I can make my own crazy build and it will be usable. I love some of the super original legendaries out there, especially when they go past an increase to a skill's damage. I love theorycrafting my own builds and I get so excited when I can post builds on here.

posted a message on Lord Greenstone's Fan and %FoK damage

So I've been messing around with using Lord Greenstone's Fan and I was wondering if anyone knows whether this stacks additively or multiplicatively with % Fan of Knives damage on gear.

For example, with a perfect LGF, after 3 seconds you can get an additional 300% fan of knives damage. Say you have 30% Fan of Knives damage from gear. Does this mean now you have 330% FoK damage or 390% FoK damage (30% of 300% is 90%)? If it's the first option then the stat increase from gear seems to be not all that useful while if it's the second one, I'll be throwing my legacy sash of knives back on and trying to stack as much FoK damage as possible.

Unrelated: Focus and Restraint normally give a damage increase of 125% on top of all other damage increases. Does the revamped Endless Walk "While standing still, damage dealt is increased by up to 100%" work the same way, effectively doubling your current damage?

Try it on the PTR first?

That's a good suggestion. My PTR is a bit bugged right now (says it needs to update but it won't update anything) but I'm definitely going to try it and report back. Someone on Reddit says that reforging doesn't gain you the new abilities/passives but it will lose any of the old specific ones. So essentially I would be trading my belt's FoK damage for just another stat.

Interesting. That makes me feel like I might be able to rr my SoK and get the FoK damage on it. I'm so scared to do it though!

posted a message on Reforging legacy legendaries in the cube

Because of my love for rogue classes, I always wanted to make a viable build with Fan of Knives in it. Because of this, I put a lot of effort into getting a good Sash of Knives way back when it gave a large bonus to FoK damage. When they made the change to Sash of Knives, I made sure to safely store mine away, knowing it could come in handy one day.

It looks like that day might be coming in 2.4. Blizz hinted at a melee DH build involving Impale and Fan of Knives bonuses on the Shadow Set and associated legendaries. It seems like my legacy Sash of Knives would make an amazing fit into this build. There's only one issue. The FoK damage isn't capped (it can go up to 50% and mine is at 43%) and my belt isn't ancient. I would love to be able to reforge my belt to get a top tier one when that time comes. My only issue is I'm afraid that if I reforge it, it will turn into the regular Sash of Knives without the FoK damage.

Has anyone reforged a legacy legendary? Did it turn into the current version or stay the same? I know that Stone of Jordan, Nat's Slayer and a bunch of other legendaries were either upgraded or changed slightly. Did anyone keep the older versions and try to reforge them? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

posted a message on Fast Moving Classes

Barbs don't go off chasing elites. They chase groups of white mobs because that's all they can efficiently kill. Most barbs would never leave those behind since they clear rifts by avoiding elites. As a barb, I get annoyed at people who sit around trying to kill an elite with a shielding/reflect damage affix when they could be running past and making actual progress. I will gladly leave my group behind if it means we finish the rift faster. Barbs are also able to scout ahead and gather up trash mobs for when everyone else gets there. If they leave a few white mobs behind who cares as long as they're being efficient with clears

posted a message on Hungering Arrow: The Ultimate Summary.

Hmm, I never thought of using % Area Damage before. How much of a radius does area damage have? Also, if you're finding that the Cirri Satchel doesn't often proc a fourth hit, maybe it's best to switch it out for something else (maybe Dead Man's Legacy?). Another thing that was suggested to me on my build (mostly just for when you're running with a group) is to use MfD Valley of Death instead for the extra damage since mobs will often be grouped for you.

Another alternative is to use double generators with Bolas - Imminent Doom and Emimei's Duffle and Leonine Bow of Hashir. That way you can group the enemies up nice and tight and do lots of AOE damage with the Bolas and switch to Hungering Arrow for the bigger mobs. Or if you just want to group them, the cold bolas skill has the same proc coefficient for leonine but splits into three projectiles making grouping much more likely. The only issue with this is you need to drop a skill. MfD would be my suggestion if you have another DH in your party.

posted a message on Best class for farming Rimeheart?

Yeah I'm not too convinced that it will work. I'm interested in some sort of synergy with Frostburn Gauntlets and maybe some DH M6 or a N6 build with cold RoV. If it doesn't work out I won't be upset but I figured it would be worth a shot and I like collecting all the passives. Thanks for the feedback!

posted a message on Best class for farming Rimeheart?

Hi everyone, I was hoping to find a Rimeheart to mess around with in freeze builds once 2.3 hits. I would probably cube it so I don't really care what stats are on it. My main is DH and something I found out early on is that certain classes have higher chances of specific legendaries dropping due to smaller pools or fewer weapon types available. For example, I farmed a Cindercoat for my DH using shards on a monk since monks do not have access to cloaks like DHs do, giving a better chance of rolling a Cindercoat. I would like to do something similar with Rimeheart.

Now I know DHs can't get Rimeheart (except with the tiny chance of getting something that doesn't belong to your class) so which class would be best to roll shards for it on? Is there a specific class that has fewer types of one-handers? I was thinking Crusader would be my best bet but I was hoping someone else would have a good idea. Thanks!

posted a message on Public games with barbs and monks(mainly)

I might be wrong but from what I've seen, barbs are really good at killing weak mobs and not so good at elites or tougher white mobs. Lots of times barbs I play with will run ahead and just get some good damage in before the cleanup crew (zdps sader, wizard, dh) finish off the leftovers
