Experience. A P900 monk has most likely played with more setups in high GRifts. Therefore he knows better when to fight and when to move on. This is a big problem in PUG groups. A lot of players just keep on fighting small groups or leftovers.

    Quote from TianZigo-next

Heal monk is probably the single hardest class/spec to play efficiently as this game.
My understanding of high Paragon requirements was to make more or less sure the guy had good gear and high-level gems, which is not that important on the supports IMO. Although I see your points, I still think P900 for a support is arbitrarily high. I've far over 1k hours played, ran my fair share of high GR as support and DPS, yet I just became P900 2 weeks ago because I didn't participate in the 24/7 speed GR meta until recently.

I've done most of my runs with P600-700 supports from pugs and almost everytime things were just fine - communication is key. One support should be the dedicated leader, who decides when to fight and when to skip, the rest has to look out for his movements/pings.

Not to mention that 600 player will do way less damage then 1k player will, not only cause of massive paragon discrepency but a chance is 1k player also has a better gear.

Absolutely. The difference between 600 and 1k on a DPS is usually immense and will show in your clear times despite density RNG. Supports? Not so much.

People like to be efficient. The setups and players they look for help them in doing so.

To clear GRifts efficiently, the party needs to

    a) stay alive consistently (healing + damage reduction, Monk + Barb are best at that)

    b) pull lots of trash together, because most specs scale well with density (again, Monk + Barb are best at that)

    c) clear lots of trash fast, because that gives progress (EP Monk is best at that, followed by most AoE specs like HoTA, Helltooth, and so on)

    d) have lots of single-target damage to burn down elites and RGs, to a lesser extent exploding EPs (Carnevil is by far the absolute best at that).

Sure you can make a lot of stuff work, but the party has to build around that. If you play in fixed group with friends who just want to play this one class, you can accomodate. But for random groups its just easier (and hence more efficient) to go with the meta and just have ready-to-go chars join a game.

I don't mind doing things differently. Just yesterday a barb buddy of mine wanted to do some 2 man grifts. I dropped some dps on my WD for toughness because we had no monk, and we continued to plow through GR60s. But it took some time to get that setup working, many people don't want that.

As for paragon requirements, I partially agree and disagree. Over the bounty weekend I joined public games for the first time, because it was so easy to find players that way. Most of the time I got P600+ (I'm >900) and everything was totally fine. A few times I was matched with P200-300s. They consistently

    a) did the same bounties someone else was doing at the same time

    b) were killing random mobs instead of focusing on the objective

    c) accepted the boss-kill bounties after taking 20+ seconds to react, only to have me one-shot the bosses anyways,

    d) etc...

And this is okay, since they just don't have the game figured out yet - but I don't waste my time explaining split bounties over and over and over and over - I just leave game and look for another group.

On the other hand, I keep seeing requests like "+1 heal monk >P900". 3-4 class specific items, the rest crafted with low gear requirements, why would one need P900 for that - at P400+ a healing monk can be just as decent if he knows how to play... That I cannot wrap my head around.

Just to make sure, Jeram's Bracers are NOT neccessary. Casting WoD refreshes all stacks and the cooldown is lower than the buff duration, so it's entirely possible to go for something different. The only reason to use the bracers is - like you said - to cover an area that is as big as possible.

I doubt blizzard would do this before the next expansion (minimum 3 more seasons). Otherwise the soft-cap would really solve much of the problems except the xp gear and leeching.

I have my doubts too, but I sincerely hope they quickly do something about it. With the upcoming patch they have a chance to react without screwing over any competition.

Otherwise non-season will turn completely obsolete with a vast majority of (semi-)casuals "competing" with each other, while the top 10 have their own battle miles ahead, and seasons turn even more into grinding paragon until you puke and push GR in the last 1-2 weeks.

posted a message on Paragon 10000!

While die-hard grinders deserve some benefit for it, 50% more main-stat is the wrong thing... In fact I expect people to hit P3000+ really soon with the amount of power-creep we're currently seeing. That is double the main-stat/damage a P1000 player has!

If this trend continues, non-season competition will be dead - which is a shame for all players that simply don't have the time to

    a) relevel every few months in seasons (which require Paragon grinding as well)

    b) continue grinding in non-season for hours each day.

I think they should rescale the whole system to fit the progressive curve we're seeing sub-750. This also means that all paragon levels need to be recalculated - just like when a season ends. Of course this leads to high-level players losing some their level advantage, but they are still significantly ahead - just not as much. And the amount of grinding required to catch up with them doesn't change at all.

Such a rescale would introduce a soft-cap for Paragon. It is still possible to level up, no matter how high you are - but after a certain point it's simply not feasibly anymore to just grind Paragons.

Btw, Bagstone, the official forums are only that bad when you look at "General Discussion". We WDs recently had an agenda to make players/devs aware of Carnevil lag -- you could see by the lack of reading comprehension and the kind of responses that one thread was posted in said "General Discussion"... I tend to stay away from that cesspool and rather post in class forums or PTR Feedback where the average IQ seems to be raised by a lot.

Actually, Perdition is really fair as a WD, because you always have Spirit Walk when you need it.

    He has two tells:

One showing you that he's about to fire his shurikens -- GTFO and come back quickly afterwards, don't use Spirit Walk!

One showing you that he's about to teleport (arms raised and crossed) - Spirit Walk immediately.

For DHs it should work the same with smoke screen or good vault timing, no idea about the other classes how to avoid the teleport.

    Rerolling Base Damage 2619.8

    Rerolling Attack Speed 2745.4

    Rerolling Damage % 2822.3

Raw sheet/weapon DPS doesn't matter for Carnevil. 7% IAS always gives you more DPS than 10% dmg, even if the resulting sheet DPS is lower.

Your dagger is a special case due to the low base damage roll.

You could check with d3planner.com what gives you more eDPS: base damage reroll or 7% IAS. I prefer this tool because it actually includes all the special effects, like IAS double dipping etc.

If 7% IAS is better, I'd reroll RCR to IAS and keep the socket. Not worth gifting that dagger, especially since you don't gain anyting.

posted a message on Vita or Life% ?

To build on arjen's point: There is a difference between gearing ranged and melee chars. In high GRs, melee chars still have to tank the damage while ranged chars often cannot survive more than 1-2 hits and try to avoid all damage. Which means healing and therefore mitigation in terms of armor/all res is more important for melee classes than for ranged who often have to rely on their potions to do that.

The tool I provided simply calculates the raw amount of damage (including mitigation) you can take before dying (or to be more exact the relevant factors of that equation). It does not factor in healing, neither does d3planner or the toughness number in game. How to balance healing+mitigation vs raw HP is up to you.

posted a message on Carnevil build vs Haunt/Essence build with Jade pieces?

Well, I've been doing speed grifts with random groups as Carnevil. If I don't slack, I keep up very well with pull Monks for example, more or less one-shotting the clumps of mobs he makes. Barbs are a different matter, can't keep up with those.

I've done speed GR50 in a handful of minutes (with very good zDPS WD + Crus), I've done 57 in 3 man as Carn in 7:30ish, so it's definitely doable.

About the survivability: I don't see why you should get oneshot in mid 40s with 20-25M toughness. From my personal experience, Carn Docs die last ;)

Finding a group does require people to be open for suggestions, you're right there. But any group I've run with was happy with the damage I brought - and those were groups of P800-1100 players.

Jade with In-Geom and Thing of the Deep is pretty nice for T6. Almost permanent Spirit Walk, Horrify, spammable Piranhado and Soul Harvest while doing decent damage. Nowhere close to Monk/Barbs but enough.

I've been running speed 40-50 with Carnevil - yes, 50 in <5 minutes is definitely possible. On the lower tiers I'm there to kill elites and RG, on the higher tiers (usually with support chars) I'm the major damage dealer. The survivability on mid 40s is better compared to Wiz/DH, who regularly lie in the dirt when a pack is a little nasty.

posted a message on Witch Doctor - Solo Greater Rift Progression Series (G35-61+ Videos)

Some things I noticed that will probably help your progression a lot:

You use the Templar + Thunderfury to proc Trapped (and a handful of Dogs). WDs have skills in their arsenal that both proc Trapped and the Zuni 6 bonus: Frozen Piranhas, Grasp of the Dead, Haunt (poison rune preferred).

Using those means you can take the Enchantress for the 3% IAS bonus. On top of extra damage this might put you over the next poison dart breakpoint. And she can use Sultan of Blinding Sands, which is great for harder RG fights. Also, she doesn't get stuck behind your pets and stop attacking.

Gargantuan is a wasted skill slot in almost any build (sadly). 1 fetish does more damage than him. You are better off with a second mana spender.

The aforementioned Frozen Piranhas and Grasp of the Dead proc the set bonus for their full duration + 4s, which allows you to dart longer than with Acid Cloud. Also you won't use that much mana, meaning you can drop the Vision Quest passive for something useful.

Reroll the 10% dmg on your dagger to 7% IAS. Because weapon IAS is multiplicative and IAS double-dips that equates to around 14.5% more damage compared to no dmg/IAS.

In general your attacks look pretty slow. You want IAS on Gloves, Belt, both Rings (preferably IAS/CHC/CHD trifecta), Paragon. Try to hit at least 2.0001 APS.

To group mobs better and maximize eDPS, you can use Piranhado and Wall of Zombies - Wrecking Crew.

Give your fetishes some time to follow. They tend to stay behind and not hit the mobs you are hitting due to distance and/or obstacles. If that doesn't help, Spirit Walk into mobs to reset their position and then back out. Stutter stepping is often counter-productive since your fetishes won't start moving.

posted a message on Zuni questions.. T&T + Zuni ring, or Zuni glove + CoE?

Taskers give you a relative DPS gain of 33-40% independent of the secondary but depending if your pets are inside a BBV or not (details http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/17346234812#4 -> under "Gloves")

CoE depends on the secondary roll but a near perfect one gives you average 50% gain. Triple the damage while the correct element is up (25% of the time), no gain otherwise (75% of the time).

Damage-wise I'd prefer CoE, Taskers help reduce BBV cooldown faster (if you need that).

so bad answer you got there "Vanaliter".

Kridershot has 1.96% drop rate and Calamity has 1.64% acording to korean drop list.

And remember there is around 1/10 that it will roll ancient. Rare, yes its very rare ^-^ Good luck hunting now"

First, those numbers have changed in recent patches, making the most rare tier of weapons less rare. Kridershot is now at 4% drop chance.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cM-s4e66ql2zsrkfkfKXmvVJ4zmngzxdzVLk9gvLvT8/htmlview?pli=1&sle=true#

Second, those percentages are relative to the weapon category. Which means 4% of all 2H Bow drops are a Kridershot. Now look at which 2H weapons DHs can find: Bow, XBow. That's it. Assuming those weapon categories are evenly distributed, 2% of all 2H drops will be a Kridershot.

Compare that with WDs. The Dagger of Darts is not even the most rare weapon in the WD's aresenal, Starmetal Kukri is twice as rare.

6.9% of all Ceremonial Knive drops are DoDs. But WDs can find the following 1H: Axes, Knives, Daggers, Maces, Spears and Swords. Assuming even distribution between those 6 categories again, 1.15% of all 1H weapons will be a DoD (that is almost half the drop chance of a Kridershot). Starmetal Kukri has half the chance... 0.575% of all 1handers...

Wizards have it just as bad, I'll have to agree with Venaliter.

Carnevil is really strong since the last patch and can easily replace a DH in high group GRifts. We've cleared several 65s with me as DPS WD and could certainly go higher if the DH had an ancient Kridershot or with some boss luck (no 0dog WD).

My solo record is 54 after 2 tries with a pretty good time, haven't pushed yet.

Speed 50s in 2-4 minutes are also possible with 2 Carnevils.

Granted, gearing up is harder than on DH. Especially the weapons are much rarer and build-defining. And you will struggle a bit to find groups, 95% of the playerbase doesn't seem to know that WDs can deal really good damage (we're talking 20-40B DPS in groups with 100+B peaks).

MoJ is better. Depending on the amount of elemental damage/pet buffs you have, it gives you ~50-60% more (relative) damage.

The TnT secondary (does not matter if 40 or 50%) on the other hand gives you 33-40% more relative damage, depending if your pets are inside a BBV or not.

posted a message on Zuni's 6piece Bonus: How does it work?
    Quote from aimson123go-next

I am more interested in how Mask of Jeram is applied to the damage. Say I have as I do now, 18+20+15 physical%, and a 100% MoJ.

Say the pets do 1 damage by default, with those bonuses they would do 2.53 (I think?).

So would the pets do 5.28 (2.75+2.53) damage or 6,96 (2.53*2.75)?

If the first, then my 42% Taskers would be better, since they would land in on 6.08 (2.75+1.53=4.28, 4.28*1,42) but if its the latter, MoJ is better. I would assume its the former though, making Taskers better. Please correct any mistake, I am not 100% sure of any of the mechanics, so I might be completely off.

MoJ is grouped with elemental damage and pet damage (Enforcer), 2.53 is correct in your case.

The Zuni 6pc is a separate multiplier (1 + 2.75), which is not influenced by anything else. 2.53*3.75 is the correct way to calculate.

    As for MoJ vs. Taskers:

The T+T secondary rolls don't matter (except for one of the 2 dog attacks). Assuming a standard fetish build, any Taskers between 40-50% increase your damage by 33% without BBV and 40% while under the effect of a single BBV (both multiplicatively).

MoJ on the other hand depend on how much elemental damage you have stacked. Assuming the "worst" case of 105% poison damage (amulet, bracers, SoJ, Swamp Land Waders, Wormwood) and a 30% Enforcer, a 100% MoJ will still increase your damage by 42.6% (= 1 - 3.35/2.35). In that unlikely case, a 75% MoJ is actually worse than any T+T -- with sane amounts (<=60%) of elemental damage, any MoJ is better than any T+T if you have to choose.

Also replied on the official forums. I'm fairly certain replacing the DH with a Carnevil WD would be beneficial. Dawg6's calculator estimates your DHs damage at 6-7B DPS single-target (10B against big ones) including group buffs and Wulf at ~50% uptime.

In the same situation a WD can output between 10 and 30B DPS depending on the element on CoE, bursts can go slightly over 100B, all calculated with level 50-57 gems. http://www.diablofans.com/builds/53823-calzones-gr60-dps-wd-for-groups

In addition there's a second Voodoo for you (+20% IAS) in certain situations.

eDPS is somewhere between 5-20 (Monk buffs) and 20-80 (Crus/WD/DH/WD group) billion single target, multiple times that in AoE situations.

RG on 40+ takes not more than a few seconds.

In case anyone here is interested. I just used http://ptr.d3planner.com with my current gear, Cain's replaced by the new Zuni pieces. Usual group composition: zDPS WD+Crus, DH and Carnevil as 2nd DPS.

Effective Elite DPS between 16B and 33B (on all mobs hit) depending on the active buffs. Sounds pretty strong, eh?

    Edit: little update...

With further build and group optimization the build can output between 25 and 80 (peak) billion DPS, multiple times that in AoE situations. Smashed a GR55 in 8:32 yesterday with an unoptimized group. RG down in less than 2 minutes, no power pylon.

    Source: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/16858966639?page=1#4

The reason Mikhail was confused is he didn't test his skills with the exact same stats without the ring set at all.

Since my testing showed that the hit that triggers the buff is also boosted by it, he was always seeing the 50% damage added on to his initial hit with either skill (you can see in his video when he tries to baseline his skill he waits for the other buff to fall off).

This means his baselines were spenders with the 50% spender buff and generators with the 50% generator buff.

There is always one or more items to make a build, the pillars or the build-defining items. Your request is to have freedom of choice in weaponry. I'd say go make a DH, WD or Wiz.

Making a WD would be the worst possible choice to make in this case. Dagger of Darts and Starmetal Kukri are the only weapons you want for a pet doc in high GRifts.

    Area Damage to Attack Speed.

IAS is the most important stat on Dagger of Darts since it increases both your attack frequency as well as the damage of your fetishes' darts. 7% IAS nets you a 14.49% damage increase. If you had to choose between 10% dmg and 7% IAS, you should take 7% IAS (obviously only true for Carnevil).

Rolling up the damage range to max (very hard) would only result in a ~11% damage increase.

So WD is definitely a viable DPS for groups now.

Nope, you are wrong, when everything is perma CC-ed, Wds get crushed by DHs and Barbs, sorry to burst your bubble :).

Well, I didn't talk about gaining a top 10 spot. For semi-casual high-end grifts, Carnevil will definitely be enough DPS. Just remember, because the majority will still be looking for DHs, doesn't mean the rest is not viable. <ZE> used DH+Wizard on live to clear 59 recently and they are confident they could gain #1 non-sever with that group.

WD will be very strong next patch, we'll have to see how strong exactly.

Might be the same reason a lot of other legendaries don't increase damage as much as expected: grouping of buffs.

Without further research, I suspect Power Pylon and the 6pc buff get added together in the (buff+debuff) multiplier, which is already pretty crowded with group buffs.

posted a message on Trials most annoying thing ever.

For the sake of argument, why should a ZDPS character be entitled to 45+ GRs from the get go ?

Why not? If the player is experienced with GRs? If he just made another char in order to not constantly be switching builds?

    Quote from giovaxgo-next

Trials should stay for two reasons:

1st: getting in the ballpark of the GR a random or fresh group should be able to clear

2nd: allowing a player who made a fresh zDPS char to play with 3 veterans without having to do 1, 11, 21, 31, 41, ...

and those two reason are that important to keep those trials that annoy / keep away from GR 90% of players ?

Maybe I wasn't clear. I fully support Bagstone's proposal (being able to choose any keystone up to highest completed + 1). But I'm against a complete removal of trials. They should be a stepping stone or a help to find the approximate level of GR you should be doing. Not the constant pain in the ass they are right now.

Also, the highest available keystone should be differentiated between the 6 different classes for solo, 2p group, 3p group and 4p group, just like the GR leaderboard records are stored.

Clearing GR60 as zDPS WD in a 4-man should not allow you to spam GR61 solo on that same character.

And like you said, clearing 45 on a DH should not allow my WD to now do 46's, but any other DH i might have set up to play with different builds.

posted a message on How critical is the 1:10 chance to damage ratio?

Except you usually don't choose between 1% CHC and 10% CHD. For example on a SoJ or RoRG you either get up to 6% CHC or 50% CHD.

Lets say without the ring in the slot you have 40% CHC and 400% CHD, base multiplier is 2.6

    Adding 6% CHC: 46% CHC / 400% CHD, multiplier = 2.84

    Adding 50% CHD: 40% CHC / 450% CHD, multiplier = 2.8

Adding 6% CHC puts you further away from the mighty 1:10 but nets you a higher multiplier. Bam -- ratio disproven!

The 1:10 ratio is a mathematical optimum if you have a finite amount of points to trade between CHC and CHD. On gear you don't trade 1% CHC for 10% CHD, you either increase one or the other. So when choosing which stat to increase, calculate CHC*CHD for both possibilities and ignore the ratio. It has almost nothing to do with gearing.

posted a message on How critical is the 1:10 chance to damage ratio?

For the most part, Bagstone said it all - use the calculator, yuhanz has the perfect example. You can even do it in your head by hand: Multiply CHC by CHD, whichever setup yields the highest number is best.

There is however one situation where you want to get as close as possible to the ratio. That is if you don't have enough paragon points to max out both CHC and CHD. In this case, try to get as close as possible to 1:10 but only via paragon points.

Only changes: Krelms Belt -> Witching Hour, Rings -> Focus + Restraint.

Although I felt like a DH surrounded by mobs, I downed 46 on the first try. If I hadn't died many times to latency and ghom, I'd probably have cleared that in ~9-10 minutes tops. The rift was full of bad mobs. Archers, Anarchs, Lacunis, stinky Act 2 ones
With good mobs, I can see 48-50 being possible with a non-ancient SMK. Re-adding pylons and the new FS pants, even higher should be definitely doable. Without Unity you die by everything that hits you, so being completely focused is very important.

For comparison: my highest non-PTR clear is 44 in 14:30 on a pretty good rift.

I got about 600M XP from the first GR and more than 1B XP from the second grift. It only happens in GRifts, for T6 any boost of that kind is a waste.

Doing fast 35-40 GRs in full exp gear non-season (so no Gem of Ease) with a decent group was yielding me close to two paragon levels per hour (@~750 currently). It really is crazy XP, I can't remember the last time I've leveled that fast.

I think some people are either holding on to them waiting for the "perfect" weapon or just plain scared they will run out. I am not afraid of using them even on my followers weapon. I understand saving some things that may have a use when the next patch drops, but hoarding rama gifts isnt required IMHO. I wouldnt worry about keeping more than 1 or 2 in my stash.

I used to use them up pretty soon and always kept 2-3 as backup for weapon upgrades. But you get to a point where you get almost no weapon upgrades ever. I don't use Gifts for fun, I use them on really really well rolled weapons and the ones that are an upgrade over my current ones.

For my WDs the only weapons I will use them on are Ancient SMK, Ancient Dagger of Darts and Ancient Furnace. That doesn't require a whole lot of Gifts ;)
