If you die on hardcore, do you lose them?

when you create a new character you get all the items so since you can't access a dead HC character and you have to make a new character anyway to keep playing then it doesn't matter
    Are you trolling me?
No, he's not. :) Once you create a character, the wings and the two dye bottles are in your inventory. Basically, all characters created on an account flagged as a CE owner starts with these three items. So if your hardcore character dies, and you start a new character, you will still have the items.

posted a message on Did you know? ELECTIVE-MODE
It took me about a day before I figured out that it didn't just let me rearrange which skill goes on what key, but also lets me have several skills from the same category. The game doesn't explain this very clearly, if at all, but I still felt kind of dumb. :)

posted a message on CE color dye question?
I believe I remember they said the CE dyes won't be as awesome as the end game dyes, so I don't think people will pony up all that much for an item with a CE dye. I know I wouldn't. :)

posted a message on Can blue items be better than legendaries, set or rares?
I'm just kind of expanding on what Nausicaa said here. If it's anything like Diablo 2, then it's possible that certain blue items will be better under specific circumstances. The thing with blue items back in D2 was that they couldn't have as high a number of affixes and suffixes on a single item as a rare could, but the affixes and suffixes they did have generally had a higher maximum value than the ones found on rares. So, for instance a blue magic assassin claw could have +3 to traps and +3 to lightning sentry, whereas the rare counterpart could only have +2 to traps and +3 to lightning sentry, giving it a lower + to lightning sentry. In this case trap assassins who want to maximize damage would prefer the regular blue claw.

The great thing about this, is that most people who are inexperienced in the game will get the impression that rares and legendaries are always better, and sell off potentially great blue items at prices much lower than their actual value. So it can really pay off to get a solid understanding of the actual value of items, even the regular magic ones. I probably threw away a fortune in great magic items back in D2 because I didn't know the usefulness of what I had found. I don't intend on doing the same mistake again. :)

I haven't really checked the stats available on items in D3 yet, so I can't say for certain that we'll see a similar situation in D3.

posted a message on Closed Beta Players - "One of the Chosen" Feat of Strength
I'm not the kind of person who feels the need to complete every feat of strength or anything, so I won't try to make a fuss about this. However, I do think it's kind of lame, and I understand why this will be irritating to some. A feat of strength should, in my opinion, be obtainable by everyone who makes a real effort. Getting beta access was pure luck for the vast majority of participants, so it's not really a feat of strength in any way.
But oh well... Grats to those of you who got it, I guess. :)

posted a message on Will you open your CE, keep it closed (mint), or re-sell it?
Heheh, I got the SC2 CE, but I have exactly zero online games played and I never started on the campaign either. I'm a bit of an art nerd though, so the art book was totally worth it. I expect the Diablo 3 art book will be just as awesome. Most likely even more awesome. My bookshelf is aching for some hot Diablo 3 action. :)

I want the wings and the achievement for owning the CE, so I'm definitely opening mine. :)

    Quote from Nastai

Versions of MMOs that didn't require huge numbers to interest people because the gameplay was actually exciting on it's own?

Heh, I was just teasing you for saying "it's so WoW" without any elaboration on what you mean by it. :) Putting it the way you do now makes for a better argument, although I can't really comment on whether I think it's true or not. I've played very little of the later versions of WoW where the stat numbers are high.

Not a huge fan of high numbers in stats. It's so WoW.

And low numbers in stats is so older-versions-of-WoW. ;)

posted a message on Inferno Monster Levels No Longer Linear, More Fansite Q&A, Bashiok on Runes, Blizzard Facebook
Hmm. I'd like to see them at least include an unlockable option after finishing Inferno, where you can enable the max level monsters throughout all acts. I was kind of excited about that feature, and I'm a bit sad to see it go away.

The skill video made me like the witch doctor a little bit better. I'm also excited to see the DH's Sentry in action, and see that it works exactly how I'd like it to.

posted a message on [PvP] Blizzard neglecting a major part of what made Diablo, Diablo.
    Quote from Azunaii

    Quote from Elementz

So I am not sure why PvE players care so much that PvP people want Blizzard to back one of the biggest, if not the biggest thing about Diablo 2's endgame. PvP.

Did read most of it, but there's a line in your first paragraph that sums up my argument nicely. Note, I'm not against PvP really, but I would want Blizzard to at least keep the two separated. I know the whole comparing to WoW is getting tiresome, but there's something to take note of in the constant struggle for rebalancing skills to match both PvE and PvP that marks its lengthy history of patch notes. Lately we've seen some improvement in this with skills being split into PvP and PvE components, and consequently with PvP being enclosed in instances separate from the PvE world, making this split technically possible. I reckon this won't be much different in D3, since PvP is in a closed off arena as well, but my biggest concern, and one I guess many share with me, is that PvE's skills and character balance will be (negatively) affected by Blizzard's attempt to balance them for PvP.

Fortunately for me, and probably less so for you, Blizzard disagrees with your perspective that PvP is the biggest thing in endgame Diablo. And with them, a lot of players do.

To me, PvP is something I just loathe to do. I don't mind the functionality, but it's just a terrible terrible experience for me. To copy your math: Trading items and killing PvE stuff would ammount to 2/2 for me. PvP may be an aspect of the game to play, but it's one I just plain don't like and never have. Again, this doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the game, but your claim that the game's experience is incomplete without it, and that it's the only logical endpoint of the game's progression, is entirely subjective.

I, too, think PvP is an unpleasant experience, so this pretty much sums up exactly what I would want to say on the subject.

    posted a message on Monk!
    Quote from greatmars

i like it, people usually imagine the monk as the calm, focused person or meditating but in this one he looks like he just snapped or having fun kicking some a$$. maybe he is about to thunderclalp and teleport :D

Yeah, I was inspired by Abd al-Hazir's description of an encounter with a monk from back when the class was first announced:

"The sound of bones crunching with each of his strikes mixed with something I could not quite believe: the monk was laughing as he fought. One by one, he dispatched his foes until only one remained."

I quite like this description. It makes the monk seem less cliché and pretty bad ass. :)

    Edit:

    Thanks, guys. :)

    Quote from G0ldmember

yeah i like it, though the weapon looks like a white item you picked up :P

Yep, he's pretty much in starter gear at the moment. ;) I'll probably do some more epic gear in my drawings once I've seen the higher tiers of gear in the game and gotten a better idea of what that should look like, heh.

posted a message on What ways are you guys going to be purchasing D3?
I'm going to buy the CE, so I won't be getting the digital copy. GameStop is the only game store nearby, and they're not getting my money, so I'll have to order it online. As a result, I won't hold my breath for getting it the first day, but I can hope. :)
