Honestly, something was needed. Farming 80 bounty bags and not getting ANY legendary on t2 difficulty is all kinds of crappy. I can't see this as just fixing drops for rorg. Hated doing bounties cause all I ever got was rift fragments and a couple of mats. Why is anyone even complaining about this? Without trading in an item based game, something has to give somewhere. And as someone who works, and has small children, I don't get the time to play like I want. And having to spend 90 k blood shards to get one pair of crappy frostburn gauntlets or farming 80 bounty bags without getting a legendary seems a little off. Having 230 hours plus in a toon and STILL not able to have the build you want sucks a big one.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm sure there are other builds to use, just seems that most people are not willing to experiment and find their own, and with new legends every season I see sets and such coming to help build diversity
Am I alone in thinking that the gems were getting a rework soon? The gems are only ever really used for their main stat increases in chest/pants and options for helms/shields stink. Weapons only get emeralds. So, maybe a blue can elaborate a bit. I know about the legendary gems, and they should help with amulets and rings, but I haven't heard anything about the standard gems
