say I have 200 strength in diablo 2 i can wear any combination of item(s) where the individual item has a str req under 200,

Do any games use a system where a broad sword may use 50 of that strength leaving you 150, then a full plate armor may use 100, leaving 50, your helmet for 50 strength, using up all of your strength

So it would mean your combined strength requirements of your equipment had to be under that of your total strength...

then say you had a big bad helmet that required 70str this would put you into deficit but you could still wear it... however you would run at reduced speeds, swing your weapons sluggishly, and suck at dodging...

if you wore items that meant you had reserve strength say a helmet that only had a str req of 30 leaving you 20 unused str, then you may move and fight more efficiently...

im not too familiar with RPG's appart from those made by blizzard and a few other exceptions, but do any of the others use this sort of a system? if so how did it work or how do you think it would work?

I think it would be cool if you could do that, then you would have to more carefully choose your items, in the end the str reqs for an elite set of gear would be the same overall, but you would have more equipment tradeoffs along the way..

Then another thing, do any RPGS differenciate between head/body shots, and limb shots, so if you hit the head or body you deal more damage? also that big armor items on your head and chest would prevent damage only when you are struck in that region? so if you are wearing all plate but wearing leather arm guards and you get hit on the wrist it does a lot more damage compared to the rest of your body.

I guess most games just do that sorta thing by weighting the armor value for certain regions much higher than others, and then use critical strikes as a sort of head shot... not sure... probably already been done, but i'm not aware of it...

There's a game where you can jump into the role of a Hero/Villain.
And you can design your own costumes and powers ;).
It's called City of Heroes/ City of Villains :D.

    is it any good?

yeah, you gotta have the horodric cube.. but it should be improved quite a bit... I think there should be an improved set of crafted items that have really hard mats to get hold of...

I think there should be more cow king, he was a pivotal character in the d2 story line...

I don't want a barbarian using chain lightning or an amazon using blessed hammer
Lets be realistic... you would have to stay within what is reasonable for that character class.

Even on WoW theres only 3 trees you can use for each class.
firstly wow is a very bad comparrison as the skill and talents system works totally different to diablo2, however do I play wow, and pretty much hate the idea that (untill recently) there were only really 1 or 2 viable specs for each class. there is in my opinion with the exception of pehaps priests and the shadow tree, and druids, little difference between playing the different specs...

meh... I give up... but I know you know my point and you are making silly arguements which are in no way what I mean.

just from my view the game is massively limited when you start having 5 or 7 or however many classes becuase you will always be restricted by the skill trees that are available to that class... I would just prefer a system that gave you a bit more freedom... or even if they still had classes but made more options for builds available to each class... either through more trees for each class.. or by balancing the skills better...

Titan quest sucked in my opinion, but i did like the idea of having say 10 skill trees and you can specialise in more than one, allowing much more freedom... It just opens up so many more possibilities for character builds and for me that is what diablo (mostly d2) was all about, making an inferno sorc that used flamebellow, strange things that were fun and unique just to see how they would go.

I'm sure most of you will disagree, but then most of you probably made hammerdins anyway... :)

kill diablo? im pretty sure diablo is dead...
but yeah it may get a bit off track, but to be honest when has playing diablo really ever been about killing diablo?

ok bare with me.. imagine D2 you go and kill andariel... yay... shes dead...

what if some one extra tough was playing as andariel and you had to go and you could go and jack her up with some gnarled clubs, i am not sure how it would work, but man it would be sweet.. lol

I reckon the first person shooter MMO idea would rock..
but has to based on duke nukem or doom.

I would like to see an MMO where you either became criminals or crime fighters and then became super heros/villians... and you could design your own costume.. and powers...

Oooh.. I just read the idea on transending into demons and angels and stuff... kinda similar to what i was thinking...

Firstly I think the 'transended' would have to be only slightly tougher than regular humans or it would become stink for the rest of the people but what you could do, rather than have like a quest which allows you to transform you could have, like you say, maybe 2% of people become angels or demons, then say people from the opposing faction could come and hunt you down in a party, then steal your special thing-a-ma-jig that gives you your demonly powers (think soulstone) and they transend, it would add a bit more purpose to PVP rather than just dueling it would be hunting... i reckon it would rock...

I would like to see mobs have ranks, so if you were fighting a group of 10 demons or whatever there would be an officer among them, or atleast a veteran, different to a named character. These would be slightly stronger and have slightly better loot, and if the AI was improved he could command his soldiers to perhaps focus fire or whatever

i'd have to see teleport scaled down considerably, maybe a cooldown on it or something coz it was rediculous getting to the throneroom in 2 mins..

**Im not sure how the next points would work... but thats not my job.. i'll leave that for blizzard**

Also I think it would be awesome if everyone started off neutral, as naive little humans and then you slowly got corrupted or not during the course of the first act to become evil or good... (think in terms of a reputation with 2 factions which you can slowly cross between if you did enough jobs or work for a faction, so you could betray the gods or whatever and slowly become evil even at end game.) Perhaps later in the game when your allegiance with a certain side became stronger and stronger there could be some changes in your appearance from little things like blood shot eyes and hunched back to perhaps becoming a new form entirely like undead, warewolf or whatever.. but if they wanted to stay looking human they could....i haven't really thought it out but im sure you get the point, I think it would be cool if rather than just choosing your char at the start and then playing him for a year or so, your character evolved with the game more.

I think it should also be a more updated multiplayer platform, more similar to WOW with guilds, Auction house, capital cities populated by 1000's but also retaining D2's faster more ActionRPG style gameplay

im not sure... but the world needs to be bigger and... well.. worldly...
