Isnt there another spell you can use so you dont have to be in melee range? I feel that if you could stay at range, you wouldnt be so squishy. Reapers wraps would be nice with this build also.
I thought mammoth and mirror images simply didn't stack the Fire Bird dot but didn't interfere/reset the dot stacking from your own spells. If it actually breaks the dot stacking then I really hope they fix it.
I just read that if you attack first, hydra doesnt interfere with the dot. But, I hope they fix it so they do stack the dot
On PTR, I'm going with a Tals/firebird combo. Tals ammy, chest and belt. Firebirds pants, gloves, boots, shoulders, and helm. then I round out my gear with RORG, fire SOJ, Strongarm, and Mirrorball. I use TF for lightning, MM and sparkflint for fire, BH event horizion for arcane, and Blizzard frozen solid for cold.
There's some interesting ideas in here - thanks for sharing them! It's great to see the constructive discourse and reasoning behind these idea threads.
We are, indeed, redesigning the 6-Piece Set Bonus for Firebird's Finery. In this case, it's been completely redesigned, though we do want to keep Fire thematically appropriate to the set. We've removed the on-death qualifier from the set bonus, and dealing Fire damage will now cause enemies to start burning for the same amount of damage over 3 seconds, stacking up to a total of 3000% weapon damage as Fire per second. Once that cap is reached, enemies will instead burn until they die.
The set is called firebird, so there needs to be some kind of Phoenix involved. Like if you die, you are reborn as a firey bird that explodes for 3000% fire damage to all mobs within 15 yards. Or something like that. I do like the idea of a fire ball spell though.
You definitely need a RORG for set bonuses. You should try to stack more elemental damage on your gear. Pretty much every piece of gear should either have elemental damage or %damage to a skill you're using. You also need to get 2 sockets in your pants. Your weapon isn't that bad. You should try to forge apoc on your source. And monk is right, I have really good gear, and i cant faceroll t6. You will get there.
So, I got my serpent sparker yesterday after the patch went live. I'm having fun with the 2 hydras, but I was reading up on builds other people are using with it, and I keep hearing about seeing crazy crit numbers their hydras are doing. I'm not seeing any crit numbers from my hydras. Do I need to change something in the options to see this?

I like the CC that I get from blizzard, then drop 2 hydras and let MM and familiar do the rest

You'll be able to give this new set bonus a try in the next PTR patch, which we should be looking at arriving pretty soon. As always, be sure to let us know what you think when you give it a whirl!
