BARBAR!
I was thinking I might make a barbar meat shield first before this. Now I definitely want to. I particularly like his metal loin cloth shield. I wonder if it has a block rate.
The WD is a little more colorful than I expected it to be, but I think it's good to have some variety, something for everyone.

I think most Unique gear will look much like the normal item of the same type, but I bet there will be some variation depending on how valuable it is. Cheap gear is probably not going to have more advanced stuff than texture/color changes, or some kind of effect (glow for example). Epic gear is more likely to have actual model changes. A lot of their looks is probably also going to come from their attributes. A fire glove can for example be red (logical), and maybe flaming? (walking around in full flaming gear... sweet... *drool*)
Well we don't have to speculate on all of this. The barbs weapon appearance reflects the type of damage it does. the axe that causes lightning damage has electricity running through it, and the cold wep has frost on it. Hopefully they will do the same thing with the armors too. The thorns suffix (attacker takes damage) could also look really cool if this is the case. -

Yeah that would be great. How much of a difference is this increase actually going to be? Since the original Zod drops were near impossible, this change might still make them really really rare... -

Anyways, there are a number of ways they could incorporate penalties into this system:
1. You lose time. They may have these checkpoints spaced very far apart and running between them (with out without respawns) will be something you will try to avoid. Also, if you die right at a checkpoint after respawning, it could push you back even further.
2. If you are running with a team, you are now separated from the team or they have to rez you. Either they wait for you or you have to try to run back to them and catch up. So your team will be annoyed with you because they now have to wait, or you miss out on some of the action. Either way, it's a penalty.
I don't like the idea of losing XP or gear or other things you've earned. It's not fun and I don't like things that aren't fun. If they need to take away something else, make a ranking system or something that's not directly related to gameplay. Then every one will know you suck before you start -

What upsets me the most about this is the apparent lack of respect for their hardcore fan bases. They only have one legacy team to work on ALL the old games? Why not just put a team together just for this and make them work on it until its done? They are a large company and surely could afford to hire a small group of people to get this done in a timely (3 years?) manner. Quit being cheap and just get the job done! -

the dark side, the replay value (no random dungeons or quests, only 3 charaters, no multiplayer).

I say just leave it, add an in-game guide to the skills maybe through the mystic artisan or a book thing and get it done already.

I was thinking that selling HC items on the RMAH would be the best way to make $. But I am still glad to see it won't be available. Truly hardcore.

On a side note it would be great if all the inner workings of the game were transparent enough that I don't have to leave the game to go look something up. I always wished D2 was like this.
