In D2, one hammer could hit multiple targets, including the same target more than once (e.g. when it runs away and runs into the hammer again). In D3, one hammer can hit multiple targets, but only the same target once. It's not entirely sure whether this is intended or not.

I personally much prefer the female crusader to the male one, even though I'm underwhelmed by both their voice actors... I just find the armour to look a lot better on her.

I thought this was common knowledge? If a single hammer could hit a mob twice it would be batshit broken.
I wasn't aware of this, since I assumed Blessed Hammer in Diablo 3 used the same mechanic as Diablo 2, where one hammer was able to hit the same target multiple times. This was one of the reasons why hammers were so awesome. Whilst I agree that it makes the skill -really- powerful, I don't necessarily think that it makes it totally overpowered, since it worked fine in Diablo 2. Maybe it's not a comparison I should make, but it's hard to deny that the entire skill is one big massive wink at the same skill in Diablo 2. I don't know, I would quite like to see this multi-hitting functionality in Diablo 3. I would still use the skill regardless, but one can hope of course.
    Quote from silvach

In my opinion, currently this is not working as intended. We all know that Hammers were taken from Diablo2, where Paladin was able to hit one target multiple times with the same hammer. So we should assume that the specifics of the hammer mechanics were copied from the Diablo2 and pasted into the Diablo3. Furthermore, the Limitless rune description says that the multiplying may only happen once per hammer. This description should apply to both cases - multiple creeps hit by one hammer and one creep hit by it multiple times. However, if this is working as designed than Hammers would be completely useless against any single target because wrath spender with 200% weapon DMG would be used with same efficiency as any primary skill with 200% weapon damage multiplier.

But this is not official Diablo 3 forum, so we will never get any answer from the devs side. That's why I would recommend posting this on official Diablo 3 forums.
That's a good point. The wording on Limitless seems completely unnecessary, unless it is intended for hammers to hit one target several times, in which case this would be a bug. I'm going to make a ticket about this (and Condemn not working with Akarat's Champion - Rally).

This is interesting. I will test to see if this really is the case tonight. It never really struck me, but you may be right, in which case I think it may be a bug, assuming that Blessed Hammer in Diablo 3 is supposed to behave the way it did in Diablo 2, where one hammer could hit the same target several times (if I remember well).

Thank you for you guide ! I'm litteraly crushing T1 atm ;)

I got a Fulminator yesterday evening that rolled quite well I think (2k4 dps, 700 str, 7% IAS, 221% weapon damage every 6 sec) and I am really happy with it. The proc is insane and seems to have a rather high chance of triggering, and 1H gameplay fit my playstyle more (and you gain a passive slot). I'm still in the process of gearing up (300k dps, 6M8 thoughtness atm) but I can already feel the power of the crusader at tanking and dpsing. The combo is quite awesome and Provoke helps a lot in group.
Nice one on the Fulminator! Congrats. :) A truly amazing weapon for this build, and it looks you had a pretty nice roll on it too.

    20) How are the contents of caches determined? Should I open them on Torment 6?
The cache's contents are rolled as soon as you receive them, so that you can't cheat the system: if you complete the bounty on any difficulty lower than Torment, no Torment-only legendaries will drop from the cache, even if you open it on Torment 6. The same applies to smart loot concerns or low-level farmed caches.
    And today's Hotfix:

    [LIVE HOTFIXES]

    • Bounty bags now properly ignore Difficulty setting when opened. You can no longer get Imperial Gems or increased gold by opening them on a higher difficulty.*
Thanks for misinforming a lot of people.
Don't be so bitter. The fact that you could open bounty bags in higher difficulty levels was actually a bug. So, yeah, you haven't been able to enjoy this exploit. Big deal.

Is it worth to play with 1h weapon with +20% lightning dmg ? This weapon has 2049 dps. My 2h has no elemental weapon dmg but has 2945 dps.
Do you have any other items that add lightning damage? The best way to find out is to compare your sheet damage with the one handed weapon and add 20% (or whatever your total percentage of added lightning damage) to the sheet damage you have with the the two handed weapon equipped. My guess is that the two handed weapon will come out to have higher overall damage though. That being said, the effective damage with the one handed weapon may still be compared to the damage of your two-hander, so it'll come down to personal preference. Do you prefer your hammers to hit harder individually, or do you want more in the air? Personally, I much prefer playing with a one-hander, but that's just me. Hope that helps?

I still need to verify my numbers with official date (at work at the moment, so I'd rather not spend too much times on websites that are obviously not work related), but it looks like the maximum you can get is 139%.

However, realistically, any number between 80-100% would already be very very good, since it would (close to) double your initial sheet damage.

Kennendine, thanks for pointing out my mistakes! I wrote it in a bit of a hurry and should have taken the time to verify my numbers. I'll check Diablohub to see the "perfect" roll percentages on elemental damage on those items I and you mentioned to update my list. From the looks of it you can go over 100% added lightning damage, which is pretty insane.

You're also right in including Thunderfury and perhaps even Fulminator, which would all be on par with Shard of Hate for their lightning procs. I don't have either of them, so I can't compare all of their proc chances.

EDIT: Just managed to check some of the numbers, you're very right on Thunder God having a max of 15%. Any idea on bracers? I believe they can go up to 20% added lightning damage but I'm not completely certain of this. Like you said, amulet can be any amulet of choice with an + elemental damage affix.

Hey Kapsu, awesome build. My Crusader just dinged 70 and its already much better than my WD.

Im playing hardcore and i get low on life sometimes on this build, any tips to get more healing?

Also, im not sure if i should get attackspeed on items instead of crit/crit-dmg or if its only necesarry in paragon points?

    Heres my character :)http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Gamerbird-2203/hero/39468531
    Hi Gamerbird

If you're finding Kapsu's build to be a little squishy for hardcore, I can suggest variations on my own build (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/crusader#aeOQfd!iYch!cZY.bY).

    Some notes:

    - Swap out Insurmountable for Hold Your Ground if your block chance is too low (+35% unbuffed is a minimum for Insurmountable to be better than Hold Your Ground). High block chance is a must for this build to work, since you'll be relying on it to heal you through Renewal.

    - Feel free to use whatever rune you prefer on Punish (I like Fury since its up time is pretty much -all the time-, giving me an almost passive 15% crit chance increase, assuming I keep Hardened Senses up, which you should definitely do anyway).

    - Bombardment is my burst skill of choice, but I feel this is likely the most flexible skill, as other skills are just as viable (namely Conviction and Heaven's Fury). I'd say this choice depends on gear/preference.

    I hope this helps. :)

    Hi,

love the hammer builds (lightning/fire/holy) and I have to admit this one is pretty strong.

Could you list some legendary which you consider as BiS for this spec ?

What is the max %lightning damage reacheable if you have like super luck with stats and item rolls ?

    atm I priorizing stats as : STR > (Vita)=(All res) > %Light=%Blessed Hammer=Crit damage > Critchance > %life=life on hit

(values are there just for surviability concern and useless once I can farm safely)

Would you consider other order and why ? (Or maybe change order depending on item's slot)

    Best regards.
    Hi AwAveZ!

All of those questions are valid. I am hoping to write out a more extensive Blessed Hammer guide based on the discussion that Kapsu's excellent build has initiated, but now, I can already answer some of your questions to the best of my ability:

    - As for a BiS legendary... it kind of depends on what you want to boost. Assuming you're going for the Thunderstruck rune on Blessed Hammers, I would argue that Odyn Son or Shard of Hate are you BiS. Shaefer's Hammer is also good, but I find that one handed weapons are far superior to two handed weapons due to the attack speed (more attack speed = more hammers). The challenge here lies in finding a high damage one handed weapon, which requires a fair amount of luck.

    - To my knowledge, the max lightning damage reachable would require you to have a perfect rolled Odyn Son (20%), Thunder God's Vigor (15%), any amulet of choice (20%), Stone of Jordan (20%) and any legendary bracers with a 20% lightning damage roll, Lidless Wall (24%) and Andariel's Visage (20%) . If you count that all up, that would bring you to a maximum of 139% lightning damage. A good source for checking elemental damage on legendaries is Diablohub (http://www.diablohub.com/database/sorting/all-elemental-damage/).

    - I'm still currently testing stat priorities and "ideal" caps for Blessed Hammers, but it's save to assume that attack speed ranks pretty high, even higher if you're running with Heavenly Strength. Attack speed obviously goes hand in hand with wrath spending, so stacking too much would mean you'd likely run out too fast. Anyway, the message here is that attack speed is pretty amazing with Blessed Hammers since it allows you to get more hammers in the air. Coupled with the Thunerstruck rune and Provoke - Charged Up, this equates in some serious damage output. As for crit strike and crit damage, it depends on your skill choices. Since I run with Punish - Fury instead of Justice, I don't rank crit strike as high, but prefer crit damage.

I hope this gives you an idea. :) More to come when I get time to write up the guide in more detail.

    EDIT: Updated with Kennedine's info.

Something tells me that our friend here thinks weapon throw is for whimpy barbarians and no TRUE barbarian would consider discarding his or her weapon so recklessly... unless it was dislodged in the skull of a fallen enemy.

Anyway, I loved reading about this build... and I'll probably give it a try!
