Because Blizzard hasn't bought anything yet, much less Diablo3.com. And to a lesser degree, no announcements have even been made yet, so of course you don't notice anything big happening. That's why the countdown box is worded in the future tense.
Looking back in the thread, you'll notice there's a post that points out, the mods that are going to announce it have to gather over 200+ sites by tomorrow to send the announcements to also.
Try this again after tommorrow's announcements, and see if it's big news.

If you would take the time to read the thread and what Medievaldragon had said, It obviously doesn't mean half the web's going to link to here.
It means, figuratevily, that the HALF of the web that Does play games will be linking to here (i.e. INGgamers, G4, Gamespot etc, etc). The other half, who doesn't have anything to do with games will obviously not be linking to Diablo3.com.
And yes, most gaming sites will pick up on the announcement, even though it could only be blizzard buying Diablo3.com. If blizzard does buy it, it's really as close as an announcement of Diablo 3 as we're gonna get until whenever WWI is.
Idk if its just me but i dont see all these gaming sites writing about how diablo3.com was bought by blizzard...doesnt really seem like big new to me. Maybe its just me whatever.
I dont feel like half the web would link to diablo3.com if all it was was blizzard buying diablo3.com and everyone moving to world of sanctuary. It's gotta be more.
