um...this is not them demoing the game for us. They are STRESS TESTING and the reason the servers have been down and being tinkered with is so they dont have these issues at launch. So you have a choice...smooth gameplay for the weekend open beta or smooth gameplay when it launches. I for one will go for smooth launch.

    Quote from EmilB

The release date for Diablo 3 is the 15th of May, I think everyone knows that by now, unless they've been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks.

With that being said I'm a bit worried about the release itself. I really want to be able to play when the clock hits 00:00, but at the same time I really want the physical collectors edition box :-(...

What do I do? If I both buy it digitally and physically it will be too expensive, but if I don't buy the collectors boxset I feel like I'm missing out on something... Furthermore, when I buy the collectors set the ingame goods wont work on the account I linked the digital copy to, so that's another problem, if I were to buy both the physical and digital version...

Any suggestions on how I figure this one out?

Well first off if you bought both, the collectors edition would overwrite the standard edition digital copy. And secondly even if you buy it digitally it has to be decrypted at midnight which I doubt will be a quick process considering how many people will be trying to do it at once.

I personally would love to be playing right at midnight, but I would much rather go to the midnight release and get my collectors edition. Besides...you get the game either way and its not like its a race in D3...

To all the players of Diablo who say "Diablo has always been about the pve" - You don't know squat. It's true. Just because you're in your isolated Diablo 2 LOD private games farming meph/baal/pindle all day long doesn't make it a pve game...it just makes you ignorant for thinking that. When I played diablo 2, I played hardcore mode. Yes I grinded gear, but I grinded gear so that I can have duels IN HARDCORE MODE. I'm not making that statement because I'm saying "LOL I"M BETTER THAN YOU". I'm saying that because there was a dimension to the game that 95% of the players don't know about (most are scared to try hc...seriously)

When the rest of Diablo 2 was plagued with duped items, speed hacks, ebayed accounts, ebayed items, hardcore was not, and there were plenty of pvp going around. If you're still not convinced, at least look at the ladder system of Diablo. When the new seasons of the ladder opened up, players were playing non-stop trying to level and grind through the same pve contents over and over...not just because they liked pve (a lot didn't) but because they wanted to beat other players in the ladder for top level spots. Guess what, that is pvp. If you have never been into the competitive gaming scene, you just simply wouldn't understand. And even though the pvpers might be a minority, pvpers' passion will never lose to those into pve. And as I have said in my other post, it's the passion that keeps the game alive.

note: also see counterstrike 1.6. If you didn't like 1.6, you probably sucked or didn't play it competitively...just saying

All the proof I need to state that Diablo 2 was 100% about PvM and not PvP is go back and look at the notes for every single patch and find a single one that had PvP improvements and not just bug fixes. Show me where they added massive things to the game for the sake of improving PvP.
Patches in Diablo 2 didn't do jack but add some items, and fix some glitches and bugs. They didn't add anything for PvM other then the Uber mode which was a pathetic update in itself to try and garner for attention for the franchise to take away from competitors. Notice they patched the game same week Guild Wars came out? Ha.

I agree that the patches were pathetic but that is because Blizzard North was closed and Blizzard didn't support it like they should have. Only real "content" added was D-Clone and Ubers but my point is that if you go back and look at all the patch notes that are hardly any changes at all that applied to PvP. Just goes to show that when they did turn out content like d-clone and ubers where the game focus is....PvM

I really dont understand the arguments about your mouse hand getting tired. Like the previous poster said, learn to drag the mouse and not click. And when you attack dont individually click each enemy, hold shift and click once then aim. Not really that hard...

I'll give you that I used the wrong word, it is Moot. But the second definition of Moot is: of little or no practical value or meaning; purely academic. So yes, it does mean what I think it means. They are not going to change it so the discussion is moot, or pointless.

Granted. But why is it pointless? Just because a feature doesn't exist doesn't mean it can't exist in the future. They have already talked about making the game for consoles which would use a similar control scheme and community feedback and requests have made blizzard consider changes before. Hardly makes discussing it pointless.

If you don't like the conversation, don't contribute or don't bother reading it. No one is forcing you to read it or like it.

The fact that it would work well on consoles has NOTHING to do with if it would feel good as WASD. Console joysticks have more then a 4 direction range of movement making it feel more fluid. That doesnt mean that limiting it to combinations of 4 direction buttons would feel as good.

See, the issue is not that we don't want you to have fun PvPing. Hell, I will most definitely participate in Arena once it is released. The issue is that we don't want to be FORCED to PvP when we want to just PvM. Diablo 3 has a completely different system for handling games (no game lists, just public and private).

What is the difference between open-PvP and the Arena system? Well, you cannot just go hostile and attack someone...which is actually a good thing. You cannot go duel someone in the middle of a progression run, making the two other people quit...oh wait..that's also a good thing. You cannot make up your own rules for PvP matches...ok...I give you that one.

Guess what?! I got a suggestion for a solution, private Arena matches...you make your own PvP game, invite players, make up your own rules and fight it out. Simple, fits in the current design, and offers the flexibility most want with open-PvP. Gives you the opportunity to battle with others that want to battle like you, and lets us that don't...not. These private Arena's could allow for spectators to let people stream and commentate battles, without Blizzard giving the impression that they are pushing eSports. By doing that, it lets them off the hook and lets people turn the game into an eSport on their own if they like (without completely balanced classes of course).

See, I'm not against PvP. What I am against is people trying to shoehorn Diablo 2 into a new game (Diablo 3). Blizzard chose to make the focus of Diablo 3 be PvM. They learned from the issues they had with allowing PvP to drive PvM design from WoW...essentially PvP ruined a lot of the PvM experience because having the awesome abilities or chance on hits meant they were too good or too bad for PvP. It is good that they've taken the direction they have as it lets them make the game feel a lot more epic, making abilities smash through enemies as you work your way through the story. They didn't neglect PvP in this new design, but they did decide to make it a more casual experience.

Blizzard doesn't expect you to buy Diablo 3 for PvP, they expect you to buy it to play through the story and grind for gear. That's what Diablo has always been about and its still the case here. If you like the new PvP system they offer, awesome...I'm sure I will. If you don't, enjoy the story and be done...it'll still be worth your money. If you don't think it's worth your money because it doesn't have epic PvP...then don't buy it. Whatever option you choose, don't try to shoehorn a very old tacked on PvP system into a game that already has its own PvP system.

Yeah each person gets their own loot that no one else can see.

I will be interested to see if they add content like this in to D3. I would love to see it because it like uber trist added more for me to do to keep me playing all this time haha.

Or you can request a system where no one can force someone else to participate if they dont want to. But all these solutions from pvp-centric people seem to revolve around we PvMers are ruining your fun by not wanting it. But so we dont spoil your fun we should just suck it up when it happens "once in a while" I dont think I am being the hypocrite here.

This is the type of thing that can go both ways, PvPing just to grief someone I'm with you, wasn't something I enjoyed. Killing a lowbie is just pointless to me, but what isn't pointless is killing someone for a rare spawn like Diablo clone. I see nothing wrong with fighting to the death for such a thing. Make it so you cant hostile lower levels then you, say....60's can only hostile 55-60. Some points we agree on, others I see it as its a free for all game, I should be able to fight you for the loot if I so choose. That anni is rare and it could be that one in a million perfect one, I want it I'll kill you for it.

And within the system that currently exists I don't think that is a totally unreasonable way to look at it. But obviously wont be an issue when we all have our own loot in D3 :-P
