posted a message on Game Crash

I haven't played Diablo3 in months. I got bored yesterday morning so I decided to patch D3 and take it for another spin.

The game crashes at the menu. Logs in. Freezes. Goes black for a few seconds. Comes back. Freezes. Goes black.

Finally just blue screened and crashed my whole computer all together - and that was AFTER I updated my video drivers. Same computer ran D3 just fine for over 1,000 hours before my little break from the game.

I look online and there's tons of people having crashes using the Radeon HD 6800 series, which is what I have, and other Radeon cards while trying to play WoW, D3, and Heroes of the Storm - and, of course, not one reason for it or solution to fix the problem.

My machine is stable running Prime95 for 12+ hours (figured that's sufficient); I can play Path of Exile and other games... But D3 just wants to be crappy.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for fixing this or perhaps had the same issue and found a fix to their problem? Blizzard technical support is pointless, and as I said I've already searched online for a decent solution.

Also interesting - this forum decided to just magically reset my password for me. I had to issue a password reset just to log in and post. Very odd, considering I have 13 years IT experience and I'm extremely confidant in my password vault where I got my Diablofans password from - meaning, it IS the right password.. Hmmm.. Curious..

    Anyway..

Any one have any idea why D3 suddenly cannot be bothered to run properly?

Windows 7 Home Premium. Fully up to date.

    Comodo firewall. Up to date.

Microsoft Security Essentials. Up to date.

AMD Radeon HD 6800 series GPU - most recent drivers (which I didn't need ~9 months ago to play D3 just fine)

    Hmmmmmm......

Sorry.. Just noticed "technical support" is buried in General Discussion and I don't see a way to delete my post or move it.. lol.. my god..

Yea maybe this just isn't worth bothering with.

I think a better question is why wasn't this addressed during the "major itemization overhaul" and the design of one of two actual additions to the game - the Crusader class - in the first place.

ADSL can be an issue, but so can cable, or fibre, or anything else. If you have noise or packet loss - for any reason - then, yea, there can be issues.
I gamed on an 1.5 Mbps ADSL connection for years without issues.

Twoflower - Should be pretty self evident.

posted a message on Death by Disconnect?
Having seen this thread in the tracker on Diablofans I wanted to make a comment here.

    Thread:http://www.diablofans.com/blizz-tracker/topic/55274-death-by-disconnect-an-internet-issue

Long story short, this is pure insanity. Here is what the OP wrote,

"Having myself been dropped from games many times and never dying, I felt lucky to have survived.

Before the launch of Reaper of Souls I upgraded my internet connection and now I have a blazing speed of 62.9 Mbps. The game loads super fast and my latency bar has never gone into the orange nor red. Also since upgrading my internet, I have never been disconnected from a game. I even increased the rendering options to make the game visuals more realistic.

Is it possible, that a good majority of dropped connections are because of a person's internet connection rather than the game servers?"

And then a blue goes on to respond by writing,

"For the longest time I was playing on a wireless DSL connection over at my place. People thought I was crazy for playing HC on it, and well… I was. I would regularly lose characters every couple of months. I’m kind of surprised they lasted as long as they did – entering Rifts was pretty much always a death sentence. I recently upgraded to a connection comparable to you, Melk – no issues since.

I can definitely appreciate how difficult it is for some of us to get on a direct connection, but in my own experience these HC deaths have been as a result of my own set up.

In case anyone wants to check it out, here’s our generalconnection troubleshooting articlewhich includes some helpful tips."

The only part of any of this which makes any real sense whatsoever is the mention of the wireless connection. Wireless connections, even when they indicate a "strong signal", can in fact be a bad connection. This is primarily caused by packet loss, which can certainly be the result of interference.

The idea put forth here that having a 50++ megabit internet connection which suddenly "solves my disconnect issues" is just pure lunacy. You do not need to be capable of downloading 1+ megabyte per second just to maintain a reliable game connection. And the idea of getting higher frame rates per second, or of being capable of increase graphical effects as a direct result of a very fast internet connection - also purely crazy.

Frame rates are hardware based. This means your CPU, your GPU, and so forth. NOT your internet connection, although admittedly if you have serious issues with your connection it may manifest itself in the form of lower FPS, but that's more than likely due to the application being data starved (again, probably unreliable connection in that case), and stuttering along - also possibly due to bad coding.

50... 100 megabit connections not required. Do not believe this lunacy.

    Quote from Tinyhell
Tiers are stupid, if implemented they would immediately invalidate every other legendary in the game, regardless of how rare they are. Blizzard is putting a metric crapton of effort this expansion to do exactly the opposite, to bring as many legendaries as possible to rough the same level of effectiveness to combat that same effect of "These are BiS for everybody". One of the prevailing controversies currently around loot is the worry that the Hellfire Amulet will be one of these "higher tiered" items that will be required for any serious player to stay competitive.

Raids won't happen because there aren't specific loot tables for mobs. Besides, greater rifts are essentially raids as it is. You kill a bunch of trash then kill a highly rewarding boss at the end. Nearly the entire game would have to be reworked to fit more people in a game for 6-8 and that's just not feasible for a non-sub based franchise. They'd have to rebalance skills, buffs, and mobs. People with lower end computers would suffer due to the higher graphical and computational strain of having more spells and more calculations going at once. Not to mention completely rework the code and UI. It's just not viable considering the game is working just fine in the 4 person model.
Greater rifts are in ladders. What happens to people that don't want to play ladders? I think that's one of the things they will get access to once the season ends, though. I forget off hand.

Reworking the entire game to fit in 6 - 8 people .... well, possibly, however they can just do the same thing they already do ... increase mob health and damage.

As for lagging everybody out.. Uhm.. that's not 100% client based. It's also how well coded the game is and what elements are incorporated. WoW can be run on a crappy laptop. Sure, you may need to turn down some settings, but it runs just fine, raid or not, on a crap machine.. So.. there goes that theory.

As for not having the revenue in a game that is not sub-based.. Pretty sure so many games are *dropping* that model because it is archaic and doesn't necessarily work that well. Well designed games which use microtransactions can do extremely well. For example: Angry Birds. League of Legends.

An example of a terrible microtransaction design? Did you ever play Warhammer Online Wrath of Heroes? If you did, well, there you go. Game never even made it out of open beta because they didn't put in the proper resources, didn't monetize it intelligently, and didn't even hardly do any advertising. Hell, the only forum the game had was put up by one of the players. Considering Electronic Arts was behind that title, that's pretty pathetic.

Anyway. No. What you're saying are not absolutes.

posted a message on low level paragons joining t6 games!!!..
Alright, first... Public games are not that bad. At least not the lower torments. Yes, there are leeches. Yes, there are people who join a game, finish the rift, and immediately leave (and I want to punch them all in the face about 500 times). Yes, there are people who will just stand there, waiting for you to spend frags to open a rift for them. Yes, there are people who will even AFK for extended periods of time.

However the biggest issue are the rift keystone leeches. Never want to open one, always impatient, and always furiously mashing the keyboard asking everyone else to spend their fragments.

As for a requisite prior to entering a particular torment .... What does paragon have to do with it? Put in a stat or gear check. Make them have to solo the previous tier successfully. Something. I've seen plenty of people, both high and low paragon, with good and bad gear. Paragon level does not mean they do or do not have gear.

To the people who say none sense like, "don't PUG" ...... This may come as a shock, but not everybody is 20 years old, partying it up every night in college, with 100+ friends at arms length to make a group with. Some people actually have to find friends with which to form groups, and to do that, they have to actually meet people. Crazy concept, I know.

posted a message on Only One that wants trading?
It's funny because I'm dealing with a company right now that moves glacially. Meaning, unlike some companies that just make HUGE sweeping changes from one end of the spectrum to the other, they are making changes so finite that you have to really pay attention to even know there is a change.

It's already been said probably 50K times. The in game trade is insulting. It is highly exploitable and has been for over TEN years. I don't now whether they are too lazy or too uncaring or too incompetent to fix that. I'd like to think they aren't too incompetent.

The AH was supposed to "fix" that; however there is (still) an official trade forum on the official forums.. even though the *only* things you can trade are blue and yellow items that have not been enchanted or crafted at the blacksmith. The AH itself was bugged, exploited, and just a source of problems ... many of which were never addressed. So, they just threw in the towel, didn't do much with itemization, end game, or even include promised/advertised features (pvp areanas..), and instead just decided to remove the auction house. And then make all noteworthy gear bound to your account ... even though they still have trade forums and in game trade, even though they're all worthless pretty much.

The people who think the AH was the source of all evils are ridiculous.

The people who think removing the AH was the only way to fix loot are out of their minds.

Doing NOTHING in between the two solutions is also just totally absurd, as I see it.

Now.. don't get me wrong. I actually don't miss the auction house. I'm just saying the situation is completely stupid.

Having said that, if I were to get back into D3 ... which probably won't happen in the immediate future ... I might start to miss the auction house just because the only good way to farm sets and specific *powerful*, build-based legendaries, is through exploiting the shard system. And, as I stated previously, what's really the point of that? To farm faster?

To make a YouTube video about it that might get 50K+ views and might, one day, put $40 or $50 into my bank account? I can wash cars with the time it'd take me to farm that loot and make more money. As for enjoyment of play, well...I went from something like paragon 108 to paragon 260 or 270 since Reaper of Souls. There's only so much farming of static maps with static encounters that I can do against mindless computer AI before I just don't care any more.

The problem is either the solution of buying items or finding items yourself will appeal to different people, differently. Myself.. I got burnt out (again) on D3. I'm not at all interested in playing ANOTHER 100+ paragon levels, just in hopes I might get another piece or two. So that I can do what, exactly? Farm faster?

Now... if there were... I dunno... PVP Arenas... maybe the loot would be more interesting to me. Which is probably why I stopped playing D3 for a bit, stopped playing DOTA2, and started playing LoL. Now.. if only I could just pick up another 30 or 40 thousand IP, and another ~15 levels without dealing with super nubs and bots.. that'd be pretty nifty. =)

If you're spamming forums over and over then you're going to get hate at some point.

That said, posting videos of things that someone else has already done is not a big deal. It would be just plain foolish to believe you're going to start a game channel (or much of anything, really), where all your content is first and no one ever thought of it before. In fact, that'd just be plain out right stupid to think that.

If I wrote a list of all the people and/or instances where I'm told I'm wrong, or it cannot be done, or any of that I'd need reams worth of paper.

I'll straight up read stuff from David Ogilvy on the subject of advertising, tell it to someone, and every time I'm told how it's dumb, it won't work, it's a bad approach. Same with Dan Kennedy, Jay Abrahams, Seth Goden, Robert Kiyosaki, Claude Hopkins, Joe Sugarman, and a bunch of others. Some names may be typod, but if you don't recognize those names and are curious, get to Google. They're all self made millionaires. And they've all written books.

There's always some tool that's going to rain on your parade, belittle you, and tell you how and why you're wrong even when they themselves really haven't got a clue.

And the reason I say that is very simple: don't spam forums with the same content, don't feed the trolls, learn from your mistakes, and don't take no crap from people who mostly don't have any idea whatsoever what they're talking about.

And I'll go on record here and now to say that yes, I too have YouTube gaming channel, and no - I wouldn't want to build it into a full time income even if I believed I "have the right stuff" to build that kind of audience. I'm a gamer. But to cater to the "gaming community" is just asking for a lot of abuse. And you're going to be working quite a bit. And it won't be long term residual income. Why? Because a video game is not evergreen content.

In other words... I won't get 50K views on a video because I'm not gamer god or whatever, but I also don't put much value on getting 50K views for a D3 video in the first place really. Especially not with seeing Google AdSense revenues this year. It's pathetic.

As for odds or rng or any of that ... let me just interject something. My Crusader has a Scourge with a 40% chance to proc on attack. Why, then, after attacking non-stop in town for 5 minutes, I end up with a proc rate of about 11%?

Each attack has a 40% chance to proc, yet 1 out of every 9 attacks produces the proc on the average.

40% proc rate does not mean if you attack 1000 times you will proc 400 times, but......11%?

    Really?

posted a message on Jerks in Public Rifts
Really guys, I've been in a great many public games. As I've said in a number places on this forum recently, I primarily play with strangers in public games. It isn't nearly as bad as what many of you make it out to be. Not even close.

However ... there are issues that should be addressed in my opinion. I'm not against finding efficient farming methods, though I'm somewhat on the fence in terms of how much I really like the idea of farming 500+ shards an hour, but I can always choose not to do that. In fact, I have yet TO do that, so I'd have to first start before I'd even really need to consider the long term effects on my enjoyment of farming gear in a gear farming game.

That said, my opening this thread was in regards to people that act like total jerks, like doing things like claiming quest rewards for having done spit, then immediately leaving to, perhaps, leech off the very next public game party. The fact is we, as players, have zero way to deal with this - OTHER than to not use public games. Which, as some other posters have pointed out, is a pretty terrible solution.

Yea, it's an easier, more accessible, less frustrating solution for some - until such time Blizzard fixes it (if they do). I agree with that also. However simply showing up and saying something like, "Don't play in public games. Stop complaining. Nothing to see here, move along." isn't a positive. It's not a solution. It's not witty, or funny, original, or in any way needed. In fact it's pretty much just a waste of bytes on a webpage. Sure, there are those who would say the exact same of what I'm writing now, or of what I wrote originally when opening this thread. Everyone has their own opinion of course.

Here's another thing about Public Games vs. Games with "Friends" (or clan or whatever): What happens when you want to play for 20.. 30.. 40 minutes, then, *OMG*, Take a 10 or 20 minute break, without it being some major inconvenience, and then *gasp* coming back to a video game and simply resuming by finding another game? Yea. You could do this with 'friends' or clans or a forum or what have you, after putting in the time to build up your own little personal network of fellow D3 players. No doubt there are some benefits.

But, again, as has been pointed out - responding to "problems in public games" with "don't play public games" is really not needed. It's just as easy - no, strike that - it's infinitely easier to simply not come to the forums, refrain from reading posts that are likely to be posts you feel are a waste of time or where you'd simply leave an awesome comment like "n00bs still doing it wrong?".

    Quote from AvailableWD

Jade harvester + coatl + the supporting gear (cold damage soj, amulet, sunkeeper) is the most broken single player gear in the whole game, period. It is also the most item-dependant gear in the game, requiring a minimum of 8 specific drops to bring together (5 jade set pieces, quetzalcoatl, royal grandeur ring, sunkeeper). The nuke is so strong it's not even funny. No amount of pet damage gets even close in comparison.

The best WD party gear needs zuni + SMK and it is a wonderful support build. If you wantch any T6 streamers that do party rifts, it's all about the same gear (zuni, jeram, tnt, kukri, hexxing pants). The outrageous rarity of the kukri makes this build underplayed.
I wouldn't say Zuni set is needed for the WD party gear. The Fetishes from Fetish Sycophants benefit from SMK as well, you just have to get some first with Rain of Toads, but that doesn't really take long. I'm running Jeram, T&T, Kukri with BBV, Garg, Toads, Piranhado, Spirit Walk and Mass Confusion (Paranoia). Lots of extra damage and barely any survivability issues on T6 (though I do run Aughild and Blackthorne, because why not)

If you do the "run around like a headless chicken while your pets do all the work" spec you might as well go hexing pants and zuni 4 pc yeah. With how easy it is to get fetishes though, I don't think it's that needed (and if you forego those, you just REALLY need Jeram and Kukri, making it about the least gear intensive T6 build)

But yeah, I'm just running this until I get my Jade set complete. Already have an amulet to reroll, a SoJ to reroll, a good Sun Keeper. Just 2 more Jade pieces and a Quetzal :P
The headless chicken build gives your party an extra debuff in Mass confusion/paranoia, so you won't have to use useless skills like rain of toads. Yes, I know that it summons fetishes like crazy, but it itself is a pretty useless spell, no crowd conrtol, no damage, plus you have to stand still to cast it and in a T6 environment that's far from practical. The hexxing pants build gives an extra 20% damage amplification, not to mention the offchance to steal an elite to have it fight for you every once in a while.
I run T6 almost exclusively now, and have had no problem standing still casting. And I'm not sure where you get the idea you can't get Mass Confusion, as I run that alongside rain of toads. (see previous post for build). I buff my party with all that, and have 10+ fetishes running around. Zuni takes a lot of gear space; not running it lets me run things like aughild + blackthornes, which makes me less squishy and lets me stand there casting stuff.

In the end, both types of pet builds are viable, as is Jade. And Jade is good in group play as well, I reckon. You don't have to kill most of the common enemies, just hunt down the elites and champions and kill any common enemy you can. If you chase those you're not doing it right :P

and while the starter pet build may be "garbage" it's a very good starting point to farm gear above T1, a way better starting point than most classes get.
Yeah maybe my pet build is garbage too, but I usually smash through stuff no problem and often get all the last hits, etc. Hmmm... well. No matter. I have more farming to do, more gear to get, and more paragon levels to grind. Eventually I'll get the gear, or they'll change the game and I'll be farming for something else.

    Here's my stuff:

posted a message on Harvester vs Zunimassa
Ah, okay. Cool. I have Jade Harvester's Swiftness (boots) for that set, and Helltooth Gaunlets, Mask of Jeram for the Helltooth set. As for Zunimassa, I have the Zunimassa Trail (boots) and Zunimassa Pox (ring) at the moment. I've been trying to get zunimassa marrow and a trifecta ring of grandeur, which I'm still shooting for really even after reading all this. As much of a PITA getting items I'm looking for has been up until very recently with my mask of jeram legendary, I just have to assume getting 1 more set item, zunimassa marrow, has got to be a lot easier at this point than getting 4 - 5 more pieces of harvester.

There are actually two mask of jeram. One is part of a set and is green, and the other is the legendary. I have one of both.

I've read about the whole unity ring thing, but I'm thinking that a good Uhkapian Serpent and more than a dozen pets is not so bad. The damage I take on high torment is mainly from elite affixes, not so much straight up mob damage. Only zombie dogs give reduced damage via Uhkapian Serpent. My Uhkapian Serpent is 28% of damage you take is redirected to your zombie dogs - this + circle of life, although may not be most efficient method vs other gear, passives and skills. It is what I have though and as I don't currently have items that allow me to have followers in multiplayer games and I'm mainly playing in multiplayer games, public games no less, I'm not sure how viable a unity is for me. Also with so many pets, I don't really get agro, which again comes back to AoE and pack affixes hitting me, if anything, for the most part.

But.. It's nice to know that when and if I actually get a harvester set, I should be able to get good use of it.

posted a message on Harvester vs Zunimassa
There's probably something I'm missing, but many of the L70 and/or torment restricted sets which typically offer +500 primary dmg stat & other set bonuses, such as the WD set which lets soul harvester pop DoTs dmg immediately on targets ... well .... I just don't really see the allure.

I have yet to get my hands on a 4 piece zunimassa set, much less any other full sets for post 70 characters thus far, but seems to me having 15 permament fetishes + a gargantuan & perhaps even + 3 - 5 zombie dogs, + mask of jeram (+~70 - 100% pet dmg), + tasker & theo (+a chunk of pet attack speed), seems to be more advantageous than trying to leverage locust swarm.

Yea, there's the whole supporting build diversity aspect, which I like. It's just.. well.. sets that are more rare, restricted, etc .. I expect to read things that make me really want that over something "lesser". So, is it just me? Am I nuts? Is the harvester set bonuses really quite strong? Or... whats the deal?

P.S. Also in so far as the zunimassa 4 set piece bonus which makes Fetishes live until killed, does that work with any skill or item that creates fetishes, or does it require you to actually slot the fetish army ability?

It reads, "Your Fetish Army lasts until they die."

I actually already have my own SOJs, however... I don't use them. I'm more interested in a trifecta ring of grandeur, zunimassa marrow, tasker and theo, pauldrons of the skeleton king, maybe a crit mempo if such a thing even exists any more (well ok not so much for my wd), iL70 witching hour would be nice. Better zunimassa pox and trail would be sort of cool too. Could really use something to replace my iL60 pants for that matter. An amulet with even more DPS and/or an orange affix that isn't garbage would be nifty (unreliably summoning 5 skeletons that are slow to follow and only last 10 seconds AFTER a massacre is a bit less than ideal imo). Could use one of them.. what are they? Stardusk. Starmetal.. Uhh.. Whatever WD weapon reduces CD of fetish army every time a fetish does damage. That'd be pretty sweet. I dunno, probably some other things that could be good too.

But.. a SoJ? Hmm.. Not so much. Maybe one day if I ever get amazing gear and just want elemental boost and elite dmg or wanna start gear switching, which I've never even tried doing because that's just how excited I am to do that ... =)
