Today I want to take a look at the new Firebird's 6 piece set, causing enemies to burn until they die for 3000% weapon damage once you stack it high enough. It's a very strong build for both speed T6 farming and solo/group Greater Rifts, especially when combined with a slow, hard hitting 2-hander like the Furnace.
In this video I go over the build, gear, paragon points, discuss synergies with Teleport/Illusionist/Force Armor/Unity, and solo a tier 32 Greater Rift with ease. Wizards are back! Enjoy!
Imho, Axe of Sankis or Devastator would be better as they both are one-handed, thus allowing a greater freedom with the pieces of Firebird to equip. And if you will use either with the Eye, you will have no less +%fire than with perfectly-rolled Maximus.
As for the Maximus's legendary affix, wouldn't this demon be not that useful once you get past lvl 25 or something like that?
Would maximus be a good choice of weap ? Its nerfed right ?
It's good, not as good as Furnace IMO, but still very competitive. Requires a different playstyle though, as you need to get to the other side of mobs asap once your demon procs.

Possibly, depends on the damage range ticks. For wizards/witch doctors, slow 1h+source is comparable damage to 2h. 2h is far superior in dps to dual wielding though. I'll be sure to test all of these variations, especially because the firebird source is so strong (can roll 20% fire, 15% skill, main stat, 10% crit).

I tried Maximus on ptr. My build was basically at first dmg from Blizzard - Apocalypse, but I later added Electrocute - Forked Lightning to the build in order to have the weapon proc faster (after its internal cd).
The weapon itself, Maximus, had amazing stats. Unfortunately for me, it had dropped on ptr and thus I do not have it on live. It was almost as good as the weapon get, literally.
So anyway, to get to my point, it was awesome. The demon (from the weapon) could in fact tank quite a lot. It could take hits from rift guardians at GR35 without dying right away.
The Fire Chain between myself and the demon was crazy. I don't know how often it ticks (I believe I once read 4 times a sec, but could perhaps be 3 times or maybe something else). A crit from the chain was about 20m damage, and with slightly higher than 50% crit, I saw those a lot.
Maximus, as it was on the last days of ptr, was definitely viable. The rune on Blizzard is not called Apocalypse for no reason
I don't know how Maximus holds up compared to Furnace on higher levels where it takes forever to bring the Rift Guardian down, but it is definitely useful above level 30, and I'd even say up to at least level 35.
Again, it's a different playstyle. I'll test it with Maximus as I think I have an int one. I just think Furnace is better because it's slower (higher damage range) and the secondary (50% elite damage) is worth more than the maximus secondary imo (demon proc).
Yea I saw Danta as well. Here's the thing I've noticed though with most of the high PTR players: they were all using something bugged. Some were using rank 150+ gems which were easy to rank up and then gems got changed, but ranks stayed. Others were using bugged 1h crossbows. There were 3.3k+ dps Calamities, etc. I think around 40 solo is going to be the 'going rate' for a while. Maybe we'll see 45 after a couple months on solo. Depends on what kind of crazy build combinations surface I suppose.

So he switched out his gear somehow? You can't transmog a 1h to a 2h...
