There's some interesting ideas in here - thanks for sharing them! It's great to see the constructive discourse and reasoning behind these idea threads.
We are, indeed, redesigning the 6-Piece Set Bonus for Firebird's Finery. In this case, it's been completely redesigned, though we do want to keep Fire thematically appropriate to the set. We've removed the on-death qualifier from the set bonus, and dealing Fire damage will now cause enemies to start burning for the same amount of damage over 3 seconds, stacking up to a total of 3000% weapon damage as Fire per second. Once that cap is reached, enemies will instead burn until they die.
Doesn't fire have enough love as it is? They should rename the set into "thunderbird" and finally give the lightning some so much needed buff. From my own statistics (EU HC), only about 1 wizard of 15 uses lightning skills, and almost always it is electrocute / surge of power - a way to quickly restore arcane power, in other words. Another lightning attack that I've seen used is electrocute / forked lighting - crowd control through passive / wyrdward ring. Over the last month I've seen only two wizards that used non-generator lightning skills. One used arcane orb, the other used hydra...
Now compare that to the amount of people using fire / cold / arcane builds (I'm a RoF wiz myself), and you will see that it is lightning that needs some more love, not fire.
I have to believe they will buff other things to make other elements better.
Nope... They've already stated the Fire is the intended "more powerful" build... Which is the reason why it's the most commonly found %Elemental Dmg on gear... I wish they'd do something with Lightning too... It's awfully underused

Can you source your quote please? from the Blue response I saw last week, they said that all elements would be equal.

Have you been playing the game and reading Blue Posts since RoS launched? It was stated not long after the release (as people also found out that the gear with %Fire Dmg was easier to obtain and that more singular pieces with %Fire Dmg were available) that the Fire Element was intended to be the "most powerful". We can clearly see that with the current Meta-Game.
Another proof of that is they said they wouldn't make a "Cindercoat" for all elements... Which is also quite revealing...
I'd rather see them make all elements equal to be honest, I'd really like to see this officialized (I haven't seen the post you are referring to).
We'll have to test to see but that sounds really powerful. 3000% damage per second that last forever sounds pretty crazy. Just depends how fast you can reach that cap.
Now that is a real buff!sucksthat it need 6 pieces for the bonus though would be good to have mirrorball, the new Depth Diggers with Serpent Sparker with it

I don't think they have said that they intended fire to be the most powerful. I have never seen blue post like that. It just how things turned out.
They didn't want to make a Cindercoat for different elements because they wanted the Cindercoat reduce cost effect to remain a fairly unique effect, rather than them being against using other elements. At least that's the impression I got from the blue post regarding Cindercoat.
But I agree that lightning really needs a bit of a boost.

You still can (with RoRG) -- Firebird set has 7 (!) potential pieces: helm, shoulders, gloves, chest, pants, boots and source. And the new depth diggers will most definitely buff at very least MM/conflag far more than cindercoat + magefists can, thus those two can be sacrificed. As for the fire builds not relying on magic missile, do they actually need Mirrorball or the new DDs?
Ohh! that's awesome, I forgot about the source Well that's a build that has potential imo up to 60% max Fire damage with SOJ sounds just fine along with the new DDs for me

Which makes no sense since demons should have some sort of higher resistance to fire. If anything, holy should be the most powerful
It's nice to see they're addressing this but I'm hesitant to say it will be better than just running the superior non-set pieces like Cindercoat, Magefists, Andariel's Visage, Depth Diggers, Aughild's, etc. You are really giving up a ton of good stats to use some pretty bad pieces of gear (I mean dear god look at the shoulders..) just for the set bonus.. and that set bonus, at least on the surface, still does not look amazing. Realistically how often are you actually going to hit something enough to stack up to 3000% damage before it just dies anyway? I can see this being good for a grift build where you manage to max stack the dot on mobs with four trillion HP then go afk for a few hours until they die but for normal t6 rift farming and such I think it'll be preferable to just wear non-set pieces and one shot the mobs with magic missile.

You'll be able to give this new set bonus a try in the next PTR patch, which we should be looking at arriving pretty soon. As always, be sure to let us know what you think when you give it a whirl!

Sounds good to me. What do you guys think?
