The last Beta patch (2.0.1) gave Frozen Orb some significant improvements. Damage was upped; the explosion timer was reduced (bigger damage, faster impact).
I tried a few combinations out and ended up settling with the following skills:
Left mouse button:Arcane Orb - Frozen Orb Right mouse button:Mirror Image - Duplicates Key 1: Slow Time - Point of No Return Key 2: Familiar - Arcanot Key 3: Magic Weapon - Force Weapon Key 4: Storm Armor - Power of the Storm
Main damage comes from Frozen Orb (buffed by Magic Weapon, Audacity, cold skill bonus and Arcane Orb bonus). Total resource cost reduction is 40.11%. AP regeneration is at 14/sec. 20 APoC total.
With Power of the Storm, AP regen, and resource reduction, I can fire off 15 Arcane Orbs in a row before running out of AP. The video showcases a bugged legendary helm that permanently provides 30% resource cost reduction. The build still works well with 30 APoC (any wizard hat suffices). Even if the helm wasn't bugged, tweaks like changing a buff skill to Diamond Skin or Blur to Galvanizing Ward can come in handy for maintaining the effect (I actually tried this first until I realized the helm was bugged and I didn't need to use DS/GW).
Build is also capable of handling Torment III at the moment, but mobs just take way too long to kill.
Technically, Frozen Orb can be substituted with pretty much any AP spender. But let's just start with this first
Thoughts? Would really like to throw in a pair of Frostburn Gauntlets and/or Winter Flurry.
I'll try this set up. Liking the tweaks to Frozen orb in this patch. I have Frostburns, and stuff with cold% bonus/ skill bonus/ reduction on them. I ran the cold stuff before with SS and its very effective as well.
Currently im running a Wave of Force - Heat wave/explosive blast setup with Magefists, cindercoat, fire%bonus/skill bonus/ and reduction gear. With my setup Wof only costs 10.75AP, I have +67% fire damage, and another 15% skill damage to EB. It's remarkably effective. Try it out, Jaetch.
I love the mirror image builds for thier crowd control aspects. Being a hardcore player, this is paramount to our survival.
I'm going to try and play around with a lightning mirror image build. I'm curious if the stun effect from paralysis would carry over to the mirrors lightning skills as well?
*EDIT* Well I just tested in out on beta, and it seems as though the mirrors do not get the use of the paralysis passive. Too bad, that woulda been OP
The only legacy item you recommend for this build is the chantodo will?
I'm mostly a barbarian player, but when RoS launches I'm gonna switch to wizard because frozen orb was, and still is, my favorite skill in any arpg haha.
I'm gonna try to get the whatever legacy items are good for this build to check it out when it launches, thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it
I use the mirror image + slow time point of no return + ilusionist also, really awesome combo, i prefer mocking demise though, dmg and stun when u force them to explode with ilusionist casts. all in all awesome build.
