EDIT: Unfortunately, due to some family issues, this whole thing is going to be postponed until further notice, when i do decide to delve back into this, i will remake a new thread for it. Sorry for all that were looking forward to it. Request has been sent to moderator to close this topic.
Over the next week or so i will be collecting a lot of data about the different Act II zones and their elite/gobbo density, the events they spawn, the clear time, and even the unbuffed xp from clearing the zone about 85% of the way. I'm doing this all in an attempt to make the most efficient Act II farming route from numbers themselves, and not from what people think the best route is. It will likely be similar to the routes people are using today, and will probably not change much, but who doesn't like data and analysis?
I'll be testing the following route (Spawning in Vault of the Assassin):
Caldeum Sewers Full Clear
Black Canyon Mines Full Clear
Howling Plateau Full Clear
Stinging Winds South of Khasim WP Full Clear
Stinging Winds North of Road to Alcarnus Full Clear
Alcarnus (First Part, See video for details on where i stop)
Ruined Cistern from Path to the Oasis WP Entrance Full Clear
Dahlgur Oasis WP Immediate Area
Ancient Path Check
Vault of the Assassin Full Clear
The data i'll be gathering on each zone is as follows:
Elites Found
Goblins Found
Experience gained (Will be calculating the actual experience, without xp modifiers)
Clear Time
I'm going to incorporate the zone's events into the zone itself, instead of analyzing them separate from the zones because the elites in the events will end up averaging better into the zones than if i gave them a separate category.
Dungeons, when found, will be ignored until i finish clearing and timing the zone they're found in, so that i can keep a better record of the data for each dungeon/zone.
In total i'll be doing around 50 runs of data collection, because i think that's a happy medium of sanity and respectable data amounts.
Please let me know your thoughts on the whole idea and post if you've got any ideas to make the study better or more accurate.
Wow, Alcarnus is in my route, i just derped and didn't put it in the list. Lol. Thanks for pointing that out. And yeah, i know it's a pretty common route, i just want some data on it, maybe certain areas aren't worth as much as people think? I dunno, i guess we'll see, and that's what i'm mainly interested in.
Good information, looking forward to the results. Can you remind me, how do I go about spawning in VotA?
Start with the black soulstone quest, enter VotA and you will get a checkpoint.
You can actually start on kill Belial, then you get adria and leah to follow you around, and you can still spawn in VoA. Adria actually does hella damage randomly, she one shots whites when she's with me. Her and Leah and Enchantress kill a buttload of white mobs that i decide not to half the time.

And if I kill Zoltun Kulle? Do I still get to spawn in VotA?
No, just do the run above and that's pretty much the best run you can do while staying in VotA, you want to maintain that checkpoint. you don't wan any new checkpoints. I'm only testing to see if some of the zones above aren't worth the time comparatively.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. Locating VotA in Desolate Sands is one of the biggest time sinks in this route, so I'll probably skip ZK and Belial in the future, start in VotA to get 5 stacks as fast as possible, and then clear the rest. Thanks!
That's the idea, nobody likes wasting time so it's usually best to just start in vault then leave then come back later, as i said in the video, just make sure you zone out into desolate sands so you can find it again quickly when you go to the waypoint.
Also i got 2 runs done last night and it's looking like i should be able to have this done within about a week, i don't have classes tomorrow so i'll be able to get a good amount of runs in.

Also enjoy this video summarizing the above:
