hey has anyone else been noticing certain characters have been scaling very high compared to others when you equip weapons. for example with the monk i unequipped my weapon and just had bare fists and i was at 13dps aprox. and then i equipped a 4-12 shiv it goes up to about 33dps. and the barbarian for example ive got a yellow javelin and i only get about 24dps. i guess it could be weapon speed but it seems like pretty significant difference for 1 hands being the offensive stats are similar for both toons
May have to do with the issue of added attack speed being displayed for white weapons. Not super familiar with this, but I guess white weapon sometimes display a faster attack speed than they have which could affect DPS. Other than that... not sure.
There are a lot of factors that are added into your damage: Primary Attributes, Bonus attack speed, Bonus Min / Max damage, Crit %, Crit bonus %, overall increase damage bonus and of course, your weapons. I'll give you a brief overview on the order of applications:
1.) Weapon damage (this includes all bonus damage and speed modifiers in the tooltip)
2.) Minimum & Maximum damage bonuses from non-weapon items (including elemental bonuses)
3.) Primary attribute is compounded with total damage done (1 str=1% bonus)
4.) Crit damage and crit chance % (with 10% chance to crit, you have 90% chance to NOT crit, so those are now added together)
5.) All previous numbers are now multiplied by overall damage % bonus
6.) That sum is multiplied by attacks / second to give you DPS.
7.) for skill usage, the "white damage" dps is calculated into the modifier, so you'll never really see your DPS with bash in the UI, but it's going to be 150% of the white DPS listed.
Hope this helps you guys.
Check out this spreadsheet I made if you'd like! It does all the calculations for you, and you can see what DPS you'd be at with new items or comparing multiple stat sets:

So true.
Just had a test with barb. With 2h stat damage was about 58, wit duals 60, but 2h rend hits was 50% better than dual. But autoattacks and rage generation with 2h suck a lot.
TY for answer.
Anytime you have an ability that is not a "strike" for dual wielding, it uses the main hand weapon damage. So abilities like Rend, Seismic Slam, Revenge etc, will always yield higher amounts while using a 2-hander. Dots are even more beneficial with a 2-hander since they are damage over time, and attack speed does not increase the actual damage done. When building a spec, make sure to consider where your primary damage will come from, and use weapons accordingly. The generators all alternate weapons, so speed is good for fury generation, but the spenders and tactical abilities all use main hand damage. Whirlwind is the only exception to this, that I am aware of, using both weapons when attacking.
My personal build will focus around Cleave, Rend and Revenge. A build like this benefits a great deal more from a 2 hander, since Cleave is the only ability affected by increased speed. Hope this helps you choose your weapons and builds!

Permanent "advanced tooltips" can be set in options also.
