My laptop for work is all but dead. To the point where I've been tempted to just run out to Best Buy and grab the closest thing that works and just buy it. It's an olllllllld gaming computer from 2006 that can't even run games anymore and overheats like a boss.
But rather than make a hasty decision of running to the store, I've begun to research laptops without much luck...
I want something that is reliable for work but I can play D3 on to LAN with my buddies. Something in the $400-600 price range is preferable, but I'm really struggling finding something with i5 + dedicated GPU for that price (leading me to believe that such a thing does not exist for that price). I'm really hoping to save my cash to upgrade my desktop. I really just need something reliable for work that I can also play D3 on for LANs. No crazy $1200 gaming laptops.
Let me know if you have any ideas/links. I've been checking dealcatcher.com, Newegg.com, and tigerdirect.com, but haven't had much luck.

A laptop with a Radeon or GeForce is ideal, but you may have problems hitting your price range. The Intel HD 3000 (or the upcoming 4000) should be able to handle the game at lower quality levels and resolutions (1366x768 or lower).
The biggest problem with "gaming laptops" is the thing that makes them good at games (a powerful GPU) makes them a bad laptop (hot, heavy, short battery life).

That's the problem I'm running into... My current laptop was a gaming laptop from ibuypower back in 2007 and it is utter junk now. It over heats and won't last longer than 20 mins without being plugged in. Not to mention the heat has caused 2 USB ports and my wireless card to become fried. It isn't long for this world.
I'd really hate to get a laptop for gaming when I really need one that will be reliable for work and med school. I guess the optimal laptop for my situation is a work laptop that can play the occasional game on low settings. Maybe I should just try to find something with the Intel HD 3000 and play on low graphics
dont let people discourage you from the options iam about to show you. the lower price ones will run low graphics the ones between 550-750 will run med-high
and keep in mind im only showing you these cuz i got a laptop for the star wars MMO and run HIGHEST settings LAG FREE so they will def run d3 so heres some options for gaming/work
I'm really looking for a good laptop too! Hopefully you'll get more replies so I can mooch the information as well!
I ended up grabbing a Toshiba Satellite. I really needed something reliable for work and med school next year.
It's a
15.6" Toshiba Satellite Intel i7 with 4gb ram, 640GB HDD and GeForce 540M GPU. I got one with dedicated GPU for gaming. Have LoL and D3 Beta set up on it and both run on max settings. Will probably upgrade to 8gb ram if needed.
It was outside of my original projected budget. I probably could have gotten an Acer or Asus for cheaper, but I really wanted the reliability of Toshiba. My last laptop was an Acer and it was garbage.
Lemme know if you have any questions or need any help!
