Apparently I received an infraction because of (as cited) making an offtopic post, which was a response to a personally addressed offtopic post from another user. I was also notified that the other user did not recieve an infraction as he deleted one of his posts (as far as I could tell at the time) after being asked to do so.
Can someone please point me out to the rules which state that:
- Offtopic posts are punishable by infractions
- Users who are willing to play Moderator's sick little degrading games are spared from aforementioned infractions
Namely, Ferret told us both to start deleting our own posts. I never remember to have agreed to having to delete my own posts by anyone's command when I joined this forum.
Does everyone who makes offtopic posts receive infractions? Are they all presented with humiliating choices that they are forced to make contrary to the forum rules? Should I really report every offtopic post on this forum from this point onwards? I was basically encouraged to go back and start reporting thousands of posts right this instant.
I demand measures/clarification to be made to me immediately.
Is it that time of the month? Lolz no seriously, it's not a big deal. Mods here can be a bit anal about crap, so bare with it. The Off Topic Posts rule is complete bullshit, though.
Well I believe currently off topic applies to this part of the rules:
No spamming (including: unnecessary single-word posts; intentional double posts)
Spamming basically means useless or unwanted posting, such as repeatedly making off-topic replies;
I believe in the thread in question there was a discussion going on about whether or not WoW is a good game but the thread was about if Blizzard listens to it's fans.
The rules are currently being updated and I will make a point to try to get them to add off topic specifically. It is sort of unclear what is off topic or not hopefully this will be resolves when we revise the rules.
Also about him asking you to delete your posts:
Take heed of what the Moderators and Administrators say
The mods and admins are here to try to keep the peace. If we see an argument brewing, a difficult situation or a rule violation, we'll make the members involved aware of this and try to resolve the issue. If you're asked to stop arguing, stop. If you're told that you've broken a rule, re-read the rules and remember not to do it in future. We're not here to be a pain, we're here to try to keep things running smoothly and for that we require your co-operation.
Though it is within your rights to refuse, I believe it's also within his rights to give you a infraction. At which point if you still feel you've been treated wrongly you can take it up with a Admin.
As for every rule violation being dealt with, no that's simply impossible but sooner or later if someone persists in breaking rules they will be dealt with and hopefully learn.
As for this case though, Ferret is the one presiding over it so it's up to him and or an Admin who sees it.
Just thought I'd offer my opinion on some of the matter.
Yes, Daemaro, I have read the rules. I have also read about things that are punishable by infractions. Making offtopic posts is not one of them. If it is, then I demand equal treatment for every member of the community.
Should I start reading every subject and report every offtopic post? Is everyone on this board asked to delete their own posts and punished by infraction if they refuse? In response to the humiliating PM I received, I said that he may delete any of my posts as he sees fit. If I had known that disobeying a moderator's whim will earn me an infraction point perhaps I would have done otherwise. I was neither warned or could have learned it from the rules.
