Auction Houses Temporarily Offline -- Update

  • #21
Some people here are stating that "everyone" did dupe gold. Based on what evidence?

Besides, people would threaten to quit if Blizzard did a rollback "wtf, i did nothing wrong and now i lost all those hours of gameplay! why are you punishing the innocents?! im gonna sue! and quit!".

Crazy stuff for sure. I just hope it gets cleared up. Shame it occurred during such a great patch.

This game does not need more bad PR. I don't believe this will have a lasting effect, but really, last thing this game needs...

Yeah I absolutely agree with you and this is how I have felt all along, this whole dupe thing has gone and over shadowed such a great patch. I'm confident things will get smoothed out and within a couple of weeks everything will be back to normal

No doubt there. By this time next week I'm sure the bug will have been corrected and the duped gold tracked down and removed, along with suspensions and bans.

That being said, I still don't agree with how Blizzard has handled the situation or is currently handling it. The moment Blizzard became aware of this bug, they should have shut the servers down completely. However, they opted to simply disable the auction houses, allowing the people that exploited the shit out of the bug to dupe billions/trillions of gold. Then, since they kept the servers active, gave these cheaters a chance to sell their exploited/ill-gotten gains to ignorant people that were unaware of the bug, potentially cheating people out of their real money. It wasn't until today recently that they decided to put a hold on gold trading, which came literally a day late. All of which could have been avoided if Blizzard simply shut the servers down and issued a rollback immediately after discovering the problem. Would it have pissed some people off? No doubt. Would it have kept the integrity of the game intact? Yes.
Oh pitiful shadow lost in the darkness,
Bringing torment and pain to others.
Your damned soul wallowing in your sin.
    Perhaps...

    it is time to die.

U have something to back this claim up?

I wonder how many people will quit now, Moldran just quit...

Really, that is really sad, I would have expected him to make a short youtube video letting us all know this, where you see this? Why would this be a huge issue for him, doesn't he mainly play on the EU servers?

We've been able to successfully identify players who duplicated gold by using this specific bug, and are focusing on these accounts to make corrections. While this is a time-consuming and very detailed process, we feel it's the most appropriate choice for us to make, and really what's in the best interest of the community. We know that some of you may disagree, and we respect that, but we feel that performing a full roll back would impact the community in an even greater way, as it would require significant downtime as well as revert the progress legitimate players have made since patch 1.0.8 was released this morning.

In his last video Moldran said that he lost a bit interest in Diablo and is looking for new games.

Did they still not add a mode that has no auction house? Money is still king i see.

The Auction House is not a required element of gameplay. You are the person that appoints the king for your own games.

If you've already bought the game I don't see how they're losing anything.

Yeah you are one smart little fellah, aint ya :)
Me not buying anything from the AH is fine, captain obvious, but I don't want to "party" with people who do either.
I'm sure it would be terrifyingly hard for Blizzard to include an optional mode without the auction house though, Kotick would not approve.
Carry on with the defending of the dying game though, chop chop!

Blizzard is autonomous in every decision they make. Activision is like a cousin to them.

    Was this a serious comment?

Who would quit over loosing a few hours of playtime on Diablo 3 compared to the hundreds of hours they put into the
    game already?

They should have just issued roll back when they had the chance.

I hope you didn't play any multiplayer D2 at all, cause lord knows that game's trading economy was built on duped SoJs and runes.

Whilst on the Team, Wilson was the one advocating the Ah. Having left he subsequently stated that 'in his opinion maybe the GAH and RMAH were actually bad ideas'

This debarcle you folks in the US have faced kinda sums it all up really.

Personally, I don't use the damn thing, I play the game, not use it as a fancy form of E-bay.

What does surprise me though is how the hell did it happen, considering the crux of the patch was mob density.... baffled the hell out of me.

It was related to the fact that Blizzard increased the stack size of gold sold for 0.25 cents. The max limit to be sold had to be less than 2.5B, but with the new stack size you could put up way more than that. So it would post 2.5B then give you the rest back, but if you cancelled then you also got the full amount back too.
