Making Legendary Drops More Noticeable
We were greeted with an unexpected blue post today by Lylirra on the topic of legendaries. A lot of players have stated they have a hard time spotting them among all the other items that drop.
We're definitely aware that Legendary item drops can be difficult to see against certain textures, and that this can sometimes cause players to miss those drops completely.
While we'd like to avoid changing the actual color of the drops, we've been discussing a number of ways to make Legendary items on the ground more visible to the player. We've considered adding a new special sound, for example, having the location of the drop ping on the player's mini-map, and creating a unique FX effect that would appear underneath the item before it's picked up.
We haven't settled on any one solution yet, but the issue is certainly something we want to address and improve on. I'll make sure the additional options you listed get passed on to our design team so they can be considered as well.
Please don't just make it a sound improvement. I'm sure I'm not the only one who plays with sound volume extremely low or off completely.
Valid point. Noted for posterity!
Magic Find and Death
Grimiku hit the forums today answering a question about magic find and death.
When I'm dead on the ground and my buddies kill the champions/elites, does my mf counts even if I'm dead?
Yep, your MF/GF still count when you're dead and a monster dies.
Is it just me or more I die more I get bad loot?
I think your second question may be relaying personal experience, but I still want to assure you that player death does not influence loot drops.

Curse Weekly Roundup

Make it epic, like a massive fanfare of light beams like when you level up. Then a huge glow around it and an icon on the map.
Why not i say.
Agreed! Tyrael should come down and start rejoicing and fireworks should start going off as far as I'm concerned, they are legendary drops after all! ^^
Yes, this is a very valid concern. The color they choose for the legendary items does not fit well with some of the environments in the game. It's very difficult to notice it at times, and it should definitely have a special on ground effect when the item drops. Adding it's location on the mini-map could be a nice touch as well. Hopefully Blizzard implements a smooth solution come 1.1

since start of the game I just found 2 legendaries and 1 set ...
stopped last week, reading diablo news just to know if the game is a better place so I can come back ... before flamers come to me and ask why I am reading diablo forums if I am playing another game now ...

There's no wrong in taking breaks from a game like Diablo. It's one of those titles that you can easily burn yourself when playing too much, too often. There's no subscription in it so taking a break is quite easy and you can always jump back in when you see fit. I assume a lot of players are doing what you do and it's perfectly fine. :]

I agree 100% because after 500 + hours of play with no legendaries or set find, I just picked up my favorite book and realized how much of a break I really need. not hating the game thought because after all it's just a game lol
I am happy for this. When jumping into patch 1.0.4 I was so excited playing around with the new changes that it wasn't until I opened my bags and realized I had found an Ivory Tower o.o

and then you were dissapointed because it was an ivory tower
Whatever the effect, it needs to be very visual -- similar to the near-death red or attaining a paragon level or somesuch. On any given night, music blaring, at who know what level of sobriety, that legendary has a high chance of being missed unless the alert is completely in my face - especially if it drops from trash -- which have been a surprising source of many of my legendary drops.

Showing on map would be great, too, I think.
