the least they could do is blast out keys...if they are giving themselves all this extra time they can fix whatever load the new players put on the server
This is what happens when you let engineers bang rocks together for a decade, consistently favoring some vague notion of "quality" over deadlines.

I think they are just chasing their WOW dollars. Let's see them take ten years to build another WOW expansion. Won't happen. That is why I'm calling for Diablo MMO. Stop with this craziness and let us play Diablo forever. Not once a decade crap. And that is exactly what this is crap. Try it or is Blizzard scared Diablo might kick WOW's ass. aarrrggghhhh I'm pissed . Fing a lol. Blizzard -1
I knew this was going to happen. IMHO I think one of the main reasons is SWTOR along with other things already mentioned.
There are other major releases coming out in the next few months like SWTOR, Skyrim, BF3, CoD MW3, ex. All these big games are coming out at around the same time and a lot of people play all these games. I don't think people are going to be able to spend $300+ in 2-3 months for all these games including D3 if it came out this year. So Blizzard waiting till next year for people to cool off from those releases and get pumped up for theirs is the right move no matter how to look at it.
I love all the people crying about something that they knew was going to happen but were just in SUPER DUPER denial. I mean come on haven't you learned anything from SC2. Blizzard never puts things out when they say they are. It doesn't matter to me though, Blizzard always delivers on their games so waiting as long as I knew I would have to makes no difference to me.
So who doubts Max Schaefer now about what he said a month ago.
Blizzard/Diablo 3 is too big to care about other releases. People have been waiting this game for more than 3 years now. Who gives a shit if Skyrim and COD are released this year as well? People will still buy diablo 3 and play this game either way. Sorry but you are wrong. They are pushing back the release date cause the game is not ready. Or at least, not ready enough for them to release it this year.

That's what I'm thinking they might do. Maybe they'll even extend the testing to cover runes, gems, sockets, and the like; they're certainly important and possibly easily-bugged mechanics. I'm also thinking of transportation skills--those could get hairy, too.
Hey who was that orgianly Diablo dev who is biulding Torch lite that stated D3 from what he heared was not going be released this year. And everyone here or most anyways was saying he is just saying that to promote his game. Well "what say you now ?" I think we need to listen to him rather than Blizzard. He knows his shit and seems honest. And a orginal Diablo man. Gotta love that.
This is F'ing BS...This push back is ridiculous...they aren't releasing it because of a few bugs in beta my ass, just look at the Cataclysm release almost all of the raids were bugged upon release and they still put it out there. The reason i think this happened is because of WOW (and no I'm not a WOW hater or conspirator that its blizzards baby above all else). But in all honesty, they say that WOW is a different market and that they aren't affected by other games but that is just even more bull.
When SC2 came out WOW's subscriptions started dropping and haven't recovered since, and that is because of SC2 even if they deny it, and the same will happen when D3 comes out. The difference is that D3 and patch 4.3 would have been close, and patch 4.3 is the conclusion of Cata so they want people on there playing the end of the expansion. I mean seriously this beta could have been release 6 months ago, its almost identical to last years bs they showed at blizzcon and it only took a week to see major issues with the game and address them.
Im so pissed that I'm just venting on here, DAMN IT!! DAMN IT TO HELL!!
Well we almost cannot say this was not expected, following this game for a along time reading all of the post and even beta bug reports... they want perfection for this game there realizing all of the minor problems just in the first 3rd of the first act and trying to get all of the other systems like runes and gems perfected without even introducing to see if they have bugs so guess its going to be a couple additional months to wait until blizzard is content with the game.
there is also a way to look at it just because it says 2012 that is what freaks everyone out but it may mean a 4 month wait instead of 3. Im still gonna be pumped when it comes out no matter what!!!!
Legal actions because of Real money AH is the main reason I bet. Quite a few EU countries are raising hell because real money transfers are going through Battlenet account - same account that has a 12 year old age restriction for World of Warcraft.

You saying they are to big to care about other companies is such a closed minded statement it's not even funny. They take EVERYTHING into consideration from game play to other release dates. You obviously don't know anything about marketing strategy. That's like says James Cameron would put Titanic out at the same time as Jurassic Park. It's one thing to go against one game but to compete with about 4 or 5 other games is very poor logistics; it's doesn't matter if they are the same type of game or not.

Something similar happened with StarCraft II.
