I'm gonna have to say ALL OF THE ABOVE! I think a mix is going to create a lot more versatile character. I'm hoping they can successfuly balance it that way, and from what they've been saying that's what they're aiming for.
Before I vote, I want to know what you mean by "Skill Playstyle". Does that mean a rune effect that changes the function of the skill so much that it becomes something entirely new, such as the Indigo Rune in Ray of Frost?

I picked increased damage, because that's probably what I will be using the most. Not what I look forward too the most, but what I will be using the most.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I voted for Skill playstyle because the way I understand it that is the choice for players who strategically choose their runes to whatever their preference is to maximize enjoyability. Also, I figured I won't go straight damage or resource or any other single option trend. Too restricting for me I'd rather grab tools for a multitude of situations.

If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...
I chose Skill Playstyle. I love the way that the D3 Dev team is making sure Diablo III has a more tactical combat experience, and I want to find different ways to utilize abilities, and create some really unique builds that you wouldn't expect to see. I get a big thrill out of changing the utility of a skill, and finding out how to use it effectively.
Although PvP will be a large focus for me at some point in the game's future, I will still probably try to incorporate some of those playstyle-changing rune effects in some of my PvP builds.
not for my high level builds but the runes that interest me the most are the ones that take a more comical approach to the skill. Giant monster-toads, throwing corpses. I can't wait to see what other bizarre combinations there are.

Some runes will change the skill from a single target to an aoe. Or aoe spell to a dot. Or a dot into multi strike.
Basically, it changes the way a skill functions.
Now that I think about that, maybe the WD's confuse could be tuned to only confuse one monster but you gain "control" over him for a long period of time turning him into one more of your pets.

I think they should lean more towards the system they discussed recently having them do a random effect. If having them do something random is such a terrible thing maybe they could tweak their system a bit and allow u to flat out choose which type of effect it is and just have the number or amount of effect b random. Being that blizzard is trying to find multiple ways to have ppl pour gold into the game and keep trade going they could easily add a monetary aspect to it with an npc that allows an increased chance for a particular effect to come out of it etc. Theres so many routes they could take on this, its hard to have this poll give a real answer to the problem. =/

Thanks for answering my question, Winged.
