We're Off to See the Beta

  • #1
Earlier today I received an invitation to go to Blizzard HQ, at the end of July (27th to be exact), for a world first look at the Diablo 3 Beta (which means Beta won't be out before this event), as well as some new feature reveals, including information on Battle.net 2.0. In addition to these reveals and hands on play, we'll be able to sit in a fansite interview with a few developers, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to let me know in this post and I'll ask what I can! The event itself will be under NDA until August 1st, but I'll keep you all in the loop.

Now for some speculation... Keep in mind, there is still no release date, this could potentially be pretty big. As we know, they are shooting for the Beta to be released in Q3 and they want to have all system and game information revealed prior to that happening. With this event coming up, we will then be able to spill all the beans about the Beta, which could mean it could very well start very shortly after this event. Not only that, but depending on how long the Beta lasts, could mean that we may still potentially have a 2011 release date.

    tl;dr Sign of the Beta.

It also looks like Force also received an invitation, so possibly expect some kind of DiabloCastish thing from HQ! :). Here's a little video announcement for those of you that just want some other cool stuff to listen to.

So this means there's no beta for us in July?

    Anyway, DiabloCastish stuff ftw!

Unfortunately, correct. I probably should've explicitly said that in the OP, fixing it.

We're getting the "world's first look at the Beta" on July 27th at the event... so ya.

That seems like a Sign of Beta to me...
Anyway, I'd like to know (if possible) whether or not they will make more PvP games apart from Arena. We will probably not see them on release, but I'm curious about that being implemented in a future expansion.

It couldn't hurt for me to ask, but i'm going to tell you the answer is likely no. The whole point of them making the arena is to completely remove PvP from PvE play, ;P.

this is exciting stuff! especially the guys from diablocast meeting up and testing out the beta together. you guys should seriously record it, like a podcast as you are testing out the beta (if blizzard allows it of course)

Looks like the chinese dude was right :)
Will you make a separate topic for question-submitting or should we post them here?

I really want to, and i'm sure Force is up for it. We'll try and figure something out, ;).

    Lol I knew it...
    Typical late release by Blizzard.
They always put things out at the end of their "speeculated" dates.... or none at all.

Oh well... Q3 ? More like Q4 Beta now....
Whats the point of inviting Sixen and Force btw?

It's not like their Machinima where they can wreck up 10+ million views.
The D3 Community isn't even big right now.
I'd much better see earlier beta..

Great news, indeed! This is definitely a Sign of Beta! :D

I hope that things go well during the visit. Hopefully they will let you see the beta build that they intend to release to external testers so that we'll know just what it is that it will contain.

Really sad to hear that it won't be out in July, or that even if it is, it will likely be the last couple days. All the same, it's exciting that the beta may actually manage to make it out sometime relatively soon.

I have a question. If the followerspecific item unlocks at followerlevel 25 (said in diablocast 8?) and the follower usually stays about 1 level below your character, and you will get to level 20 through normal, and followers won't be viable in Nightmare, how is that all going to work out? :P
can it be that the level 25 unlock isnt for the item? :D

    also YAY! Beta :D

Well, i'm technically from DFans/Curse. Force is technically from DFans/Machinima. As far as you're concerned, 2 DFans members get to go, that's a good thing, :P.

    1. Is single player linked through battle.net 2.0 or is it like diablo 2 and stand alone.
    2. will I be able to install the copy of diablo 3 on multiple computers ( on my main system and again on my laptop so i can play at home or when i am away ) obviously not meaning play them at the same time
    3. how many character slot on your account have they gone with. they did mention it would be a crazy high number i would like to know what it is because my crazy high is a lot more then theirs i have about 500 D2 characters because i keep my old ones and do not delete them.

that is if for now from me i know i have more but will have to get back with them later

#2 I can answer now, the answer is yes.

    BETA!!!!!!
  • #19
I heard NDA lasts until Aug 2, and seems Blizzard is not attending this year's GDC at Cologne(Artisan was announced at GDC last year). Also there's ActivisionBlizzard 2011 Q2 conference call in early August, so I bet the beta will start on the week of Aug 8/15.

Very good news IMO. the public beta will probably start short after the 27th. As many of you I aswell hope to get selected but no mather what: Beta = much more Info an hours om recorded gameplay that we All can enjoy.
I cant belive that the game is finally on the track of a release. Im 90% that we will get a november 2011 release. When i get a feeling it usualy turns out right. Like the weeks prior to the announcment in 2008. I was 95 % that i was diablos time.
Write down the date, diablo is comming home this year baby!!!
    Dedicated fan since 96.
