edit: EttenCO, you mind if I take your post to the b-net forums ? Love to see what Bashiok would say to that... I'd give you full credit for the post, of course.
Ooh, if you get permission to do so, I'd be interested in the response. I am kinda torn on the subject of microtransactions. I have the foresight to see they are the future of gaming, but still have the stubbornness not to participate.

I'm the same way right now, sadly it's going to be the future of gaming.
As somebody (too lazy to scroll up and look at who it was) said before in this thread, I hate what gaming has become.

That was fixed pretty well... once they made it so TP's were removed upon hostility, it made PK way harder.
Like you said, only way this could happen was if you AFK's at a waypoint.
You'd still get killed by the hurricane that was there 1 second ago, or the frost orb still flying about, so you had to pay attention at all times while playing public games, but that's why hardcore was exciting when softcore started feeling dull. Not like wow where you close your eyes while hitting Tab - 2 - 3 - 4, Tab 2- 3 - 4, or leave on auto combat while getting orange juice; do that in HC and you will find yourself at the grace of every other player in your game. But then again, maybe you should stay on softcore and not ask for hardcore to be dulled down so that you can prance around pulling 3 screens worth of mobs, going OOPS, tp to safety and leave it open and unsafe??? Newbies in HC are a bigger threat than PKs...
I can, like, see some barbarian with full hp running around taking hp orbs on the ground that you saved for 'later' use, in case you have to fall back. (in HC)
I think it would kill the fun of the game entirely. Maybe I'm just cheap but I agree with some of the other forum members who ask what happened to the days of gaming when you paid for the game and that was the only investment you needed. To me, it just seems to ruin the experience when I know in the back of my mind that playing a game like WOW is costing me money. Plus, it kind of screws the, and pardon my oxymoron, casual-hardcore gamers. The ones who may only play for a few days a week or even a month but when they do, they play for 10 hours at a time.
As for paying for cosmetic features, again I might just be a cheapskate, but when I see another sweet looking character and I say to myself "holy cow how do I look like that?!" and then find out I have to pay to do it, it creates a sense of inferiority because I can only look like that or have that skill, or sound like that if I shell out the money, which again ruins the experience for me. and I don't know about the rest of you, but when I pay for a cosmetic feature, or a skill, or item, or whatever, it loses its renown or its significance because there was no work put into the game to get it, it was just some spoiled kid's parent's fueling the child's ego by giving him the insignificant right to brag about something he didn't even earn.
100% agree. The reason i wrote, before, that i can only consider (as if its my choice lol) cosmetic upgrades is that it seems they will squeeze more money out of consumers one way or the other and i rather them not have any gameplay changes.
Sounds like they are sticking to their word to not charge extra fees for battle-net. As this should be free like it always has been... I personally think the more things start costing money, the more people you will detract the user base who do not wish to keep paying..
I think they should charge similar prices as WOW because then it will force them to make it better all the time. the Online pvp and such has to be great so I think they should charge

Diablo is not an MMO! The main focus is PVM! Diablo is more about Single Player.

The funny thing is Blizzard doesn't need to do fees! They make so much money on WoW alone.. why would they even consider them? lol We are all just being flung into arguments so blizzard gets people more into whats going on with Diablo 3!
I didn't read through all the posts so I don't know if this has already been mentioned, so sorry if it has. But honestly I hope Blizzard doesn't use the pay-for ingame features for Diablo 3 like they do for WoW. I just don't feel like that would be appropriate for the audience Diablo is targetting, as well as just the 'feel' that Diablo has. I play WoW, and I use the pay-for ingame features every once and awhile, but for Diablo, when paying fees isn't normally part of the game, Blizzard shouldn't try to implement it anywhere else in the game.
What would be the best sense of direction for Diablo 3 would be to have ingame events/quests that offered access to features that would and have been considered worthy of paying cash for. Like Resurrecting a hardcore character for instance. It would be so sweet if you could resurrect a hardcore character by: Creating another hardcore character, advance him to a certain point (that Blizzard would expertly decide, and go on this epic adventure/quest to resurrect a fallen hardcore hero. There could be a lot of dynamic kinds of quests/events you could do with that I think. Like having to seek vengeance on the monster or boss that killed your hero, obviously that could be tricky or not interesting enough if you happened to die to a simple Carver or something =p But I hope the main message of this gets across. With Diablo 3, where Story and Lore are a main focus on it, it would be so much more engaging, immersive and just FUN to have to interact with the game world to access features like this. I would just feel so much more accomplished. I really hope a Blue gets a chance to look at this =)

That would be perfectly fine with me, I myself would also be interested in seeing what kind of responses or new questions it might trigger.

Shouldnt be possible to resurrect a hardcore character in any way (not into hardcore again at least). Whats the point of hardcore if you can do that.
Otherwise yes, in-game features should be available through playing the game, not paying money. Pretty much everyone can agree about that.

WoW doesnt matter. Blizzard obviously need to be able to earn thir money back on Diablo 3 itself, no matter what Wow earns them or not. However, they dont need to monetize every single aspect of the game since we already pay for the game upfront, and we have no reason to believe they will try that either, even if people act like Blizzard just announced they would have to pay to gain XP or something.
As I am pretty sure I just saw from a youtube.com video and most of you have as well. Reassigning your skills will not be necessary since all skills and points will be assigned for you?
I can be the only person who knows this.....
BUT
I can not really imagine blizzard charging for battle.net
You can be 99% sure there will be some options of microtransactions in relation to Battle.Net 2.
You cant really be sure there will be any for Diablo 3, but its a likely possibility at least.
I doubt they have discussed much about payment options for Diablo 3 this early in production, but they likely have for B.net since it kinda has to come out soon (with SC2).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously, none of us would like to have to pay additional fees in order to use Battle.net. If nothing else, I believe anybody who buys the inevitably pricier "Collector's Edition" of Diablo 3 when it comes out should never have to pay Battle.net fees to play the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Does this mean there is DEFINITLEY a Collector's Edition on it's way???
AWESOME !!!
If so can any1 tell me where I can sell my kidney's on the black market Lol

Well stated!!! I am one of those casual gamers you speak of. I won't play much during the week, if at all, but I'll play 10 to 12 hours on the weekend. Believe it or not I do have a life outside of Diablo, as I am sure most of you do. So, I am very much against a pay for play system. As far as paying for the cosmetic stuff goes, I'd say add it. I won't being paying for it, but many will I'm sure.

I think he was just talking hypothetically. If there was something about a Collector's Edition going around, it would have been posted here as a news article. Although, you can probably bank on it being so. There was a collector's edition for Diablo II, I believe, at some point. I think I saw it on Ebay.
I've played Warcraft I, II, II, Diablo I, II, WOW, Starcraft plus all expansions.
The only way I would ever, and I mean ever, consider paying a monthly fee for Diablo 3, is if they guaranteed expanded content every 3 or 4 months, and not having to pay for using new character types.
Blizzard could charge players the ability to open new character classes. I can see a lot of people opening up their wallets to play a Necromancer or their old favorite D2 class in D3 for instance.
But without constant new free content with subscription (i.e. new areas, dungeons, classes, etc.), I don't see how they could seriously warrant a fee.

I agree with this for the most part, however I think there are some things that people wouldn't mind paying a little extra for ie. uploading and or buying custom textures for their armor or something like that, although there would be obvious problems with doing that (Sacrificing control of the look of the game/Quality of items) as well as only tapping into a small subset of the user base being interested in making custom items or textures. If you look around at other games or virtual worlds that use that kind of system in the economy I'm not sure if it would be worth while to do in Diablo considering the sort of set tone and mood of the game over all. I'm sure there is something that they can charge for without taking away from the current service.
actually i think paying for bnet is good. if we have to pay, blizzard will work harder to make bnet better
Yeah, they're kinda already famous for releasing patch after patch after patch. It's what makes them different from other studios, they don't just release a nice balanced game, they spend forever tweaking, I mean shit, didn't a Diablo 2 patch just get released recently? F@#% pay for play, this isn't WOW never has been never should be.
Well it really depends. What I'm worried about most is weather people will be able to create things similar to Hero Editor for D3. If they did, then paying for Battle.net would not be worth it.
Obviously, nobody wants to pay for Battle.net and neither do I, but if we have too then Blizzard better make sure no programs like this affect the Battle.net community.
I myself haven't read much on how Battle.net will work for D3 so I'm not sure weather they already had a plan for these sort of programs. I'm sure people would try no doubt, but I just want to know if they will have a better way of stopping it...
