Strongly dislike the segregated item slots, the new inventory UI (the paper doll; perhaps it's past time it died? I thought it was a dead concept everywhere already), depressing background and the illustrated item art. I'd much rather have the damn chest armor look like what it looks like, even though it'll look different to each class+gender combination. A step back from the Blizzcon demo UI in most ways.
Not a fan of the rectangular runes. I know it's so they can fit in the slot under the active skills on the skill tree; still looks super poopy in this mockup.

The barb has the same on-screen armor even though he's wearing 2 totally different garments.
I thought they were going to have a completely different mesh or design for every single item?
Not really. It's modular like in Diablo II, so each class has its own unique look, and yet only have to create about three sets of armor for each class+gender combo to accomplish that.

Minor Hydra Rune: Increases skill quantity
Anyone know what that could be? Perhaps a +1 Skill kind of thing?
Maybe equipment that the character wears will actually be for doing damage, and the runes will be for +skills. That way (comparing to D2) some char's won't have simply + skills things on them for the sake of having poor combat gear
Oh, I can tell you straight up what it does. It's a HYDRA rune, right? It "increases" skill quantity, right?
Adds more projectiles to your projectiles. Instead of shooting one magic missile, fire two. Maybe the highest quality will fire nine?
It has to be vague since runes affect different skills differently. Magic Missile and Zoomy Dash obviously work differently. When you hover it over specific skills on your skill tree, it'll tell you more specifically what the effect is.
Why would you even consider it a bad thing?
i don't consider it a bad thing,... but say i just randomly give you this orange candy..
you didn't think you wanted it did you?
but try it maybe you do want it.
that's my attitude towards it.
no, i'm not complaining that they should be devoting their time to other things if that's what you're asking..
also bryan i really like the paper doll :/

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
I've always wanted that. In every single game that ever was. To be honest I even expected it from D3. More variety is better.
Like different ways they'd die, different ways they'd leave their corpses on the ground, different cuts on their bodies and missing limbs etc. That way of thinking is the right way imo.
EDIT: I know you're not complaining, but it kinda came off weird that someone would not understand something like that. Timeframe or no timeframe.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
I really enjoyed the Blizzcast overall, about what I expected.
As far as the 35 Death Animations... in a game where all your doing is killing hordes of monsters, the more variety we have the better. I agree that many of us could do without it, but I'm sure we'll all love having them once we've already beaten the game once.
Think of your first Barbarian using mostly a Shock Axe and an Ice Axe, then the next time forcing yourself to switch to Fire and Poison, or whatever. The end result will be the same, but will look quite differently.
i'm satisfied with it. liked the new screen shots and the explanation of the fury system and the different types of deaths. i bet we'll get that new bestiary update within a few days.
THANKS YOU BLIZZARD for taking back life and stamina potions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH YEAHHHH!
stamina i dont care... lol but potions POTIONS POTIONS..... aanahahahanahanahahahaha way better then the stupid orbs.
i'm almost certain that they didn't take out the potions to begin with. i'm not sure if you read that somewhere or what but i always thought the orbs were just an addition.
Paladin,
i just thought the way it was in d2 with random way they fell and blood spray was fine (or popping if they died cold) i expected that but didn't think of wanting further...
can anyone say if this first picture is the way the inventory and images were like at blizzcon?
it's from the gameplay video just wondering if that's the way it was that bryan liked
(put the new one below to contrast)

LOL, they changed the staircase statues people were whining about.
Hahaha yeh I saw that. I didn't mind the older ones at all, but I guess these are fine too, a bit darker but seem to stick out a little too much. Anyways, who cares about that... the inventory looks sweet so far. Nice big pictures.
I'm so stoked for this game.
So we learned how the new inventory works, we learned that each monster has 35 ways of dieing, and we saw a small video showing the new Fury interface in action.
And new UI and character/inventory screens are SEXY. I didn't know that they're done by the artist who worked on Sanitarium!
Damnit! I just noticed that they changed the symbols for the runes!
I assumed that they were just keeping the old runes and using them for skills instead... that sucks, I loved the old little symbols...
Yes the first pic is like it was and the 2nd is like it is now. And tbh, the new inventory system sounds good but they need to keep the dark brown background instead of the red one.. I also hope that they make the item icons look cooler.
I think they are both the new one... It's just red in the second pic because hes on a different tab. I could be wrong tho...
if you're talking about the picture i put, that's:
top one: one from the gameplay video from the d3 site. my question was if it was different from the ui at blizzcon.
(thanks for answers)
bottom one: the one just released today from the blizzcast
btw i don't like the red background either but otherwise i really think the new ui looks really good

I agree too. The only reason I liked the other style, however, was that it would give blizzard a reason to add character customization. Every time you open up your inventory you'd see all of your character's features. They had mentioned that they wouldn't add customization because you wouldn't see your character's face, but with that style of inventory you'd be seeing it quite a lot.
At any rate, I hope they add detail and a more gothic feel to the inventory bags. I think the headboard of the first UI looks much more bold and gothic than the headboard of the new UI. These, of course, are just small things but I think its still worth mentioning.
can anyone say if this first picture is the way the inventory and images were like at blizzcon?
Yes, and I do think it's superior. Stuff looks like what it looks like on your guy. And it's a screen you go to a thousand times a day; looking at something that absolutely depressing is depressing.
Remember Hellgate was initially going to use this little-and-big item slot system? It's just a massive mess; I doubt they'll stick with it. 1 slot, 1 item.
It's like the paper doll silhouette guy, it's trying to keep something that needs to go away.
One point that I don't think has been mentioned and is pure speculation, of course. In the inventory screen, the quality of an item seems to be indicated by the background on which its set, i.e. magic items on blue, rare on yellow, etc. See the short sword/dagger and maul/hammer in the inventory in blizzcast screen that has the skill window open.

Yep I noticed that also.
Dunno if I like or dislike that yet. I'm sure it'll just be black until identified though.

Yeah, I seem to recall that being in the demo at BlizzCon last year as well. I could be wrong though. Either way, I definitely think it's a nice way to help visibly clarify certain things about an item.
Dunno if I like or dislike that yet. I'm sure it'll just be black until identified though.
Agreed. So far, I'm ambivalent towards it as well. Disagree about black background until identified. The quality indicated by color is apparent when the item drops. Why wait to fill in the slot with color until you identify it when you already know its magic/rare/unique?

Ah that's true. I dunno what I was thinking. <slaps forehead> You're right.

Definitely helps with replay-ability.
Looking forward to it more and more.
