So those shacks became huge fucking buildings of brick? Look a little closer at what those arrows of yours are pointing at. And I still don't see the cathedral.
I agree with CapKosmaty...I took a closer look at the artwork and it looks like the cathedral is in the background http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/7456/ss81hires.jpg. Unless you are talking about the town in the foreground being old Trist....the silhouette of the cathedral in the background looks more like the D1 cathedral to me. Everything else looks like it matches up to me...
I mean you have to be smoking LSD. Yes, smoking it.
The church in D1 and D3 cinematic trailer is identical. It's a Gothic cathedral. The big white Romanic-styled building on the hill is just a big white building that looks nothing like the cathedral as portrayed in D1 and D3 cinematic trailer (which is again, identical). And where's the graveyard next to the cathedral? And what are the big buildings surrounding that which you think is the cathedral?
And I use the word 'fuck' when appropriate as it's an integral part of the language. Denying words doesn't make a language better or prettier. And you have to be 16+ to be on this forum so I don't see a problem.
Yes, it would not be imaginable that concept art for Diablo 3 is not exactly identical to the ingame proportions of Diablo 1
I see where you're coming from now... Silly me
The only thing missing is that tower, you're right. That is odd. Everything else is there, though. And, of course, geographically the image is completely accurate as to its position. The whole, however, is not from the meteor. It's in the original Diablo I cathedral, too.
(Of course, the only thing I was arguing is that the cathedral isn't white.)
is this monster only going to be found in the dungeons in which the screenshots were taken or like found in other places? because so far pretty much all the screenshots have come from that one dungeon.
We dont really know if these monsters are limited to this first area we are seeing but the background image for the unburied journal entry is a concept art of a Caldeum palace.

So what's this undeniable 'proof' that you speak of? The fact that someone drew an orange line between two streams? What about the fact that the stream in the Tristram picture is going in BETWEEN the cathedral and the village. On the concept piece, it's beside BOTH. So why connect them randomly when they're not even at the same location? Ah yes, because there's people gullible enough to believe that bunch of random lines proves that something that doesn't look even remotely like Tristram is actually Tristram.
I don't think Genesis said anything about "undeniable truth" or something, but the concept art does feature two streams- one to the right and one to the left of the Old Tristram and Cathedral, and in Diablo I, there were streams in the exact same positions.
Diablo is full of inconsistencies between games, cinematics and artwork due to the very nature of ingame graphics, cinematic level graphics and concept art styles
Sanctuary is still a very malleable place, alot has changed lore wise and geographically. Dont expect anything to be identical
And... This is concept art drawn in 2006
Deckard Cain doesnt look exactly the same
The inside of the Cathedral doesnt look exactly the same
Diablo himself doesnt look exactly the same
The world map of Sanctuary doesnt look exactly the same
sigh... Tristram from Diablo 2 didn't even have a Cathedral

No? The stream in Tristram is beside the whole thing, the one in the concept piece is in between the huge white buildings that you claim to be the cathedral and the village. So I don't see a reason why he would connect the two streams and try to make an argument about their location if their location is completely off.
From all other concept pieces of the cathedral, and from the cinematic trailer, and from Diablo 1, you can tell that the cathedral is a Gothic structure of a very set appearance, standing on it's own, without buildings around it, and with a graveyard on the side. It is also very close to the village and the actual well. And there is no stream in between...

But Diablo 3 does. And it looks exactly the same as the one in Diablo 1.
You know what? It's Lut Gholein actually. Trust me, the art changes with time. In fact, I can quickly draw 15 interpolarated lines that prove that the white buildings are precisely in place of the Lut Gholein palace. It's undeniable.

The cinematic of Diablo 3 does... cinematic art, ingame graphics and concept art always have inconsistencies between them. Especially when theres years difference added on top of that
From all other concept pieces of the cathedral, and from the cinematic trailer, and from Diablo 1
Different concept pieces are made at different times... this is concept art. NOT architectural schematics!
I'll take that last part as a joke, and not a serious argument
Okay, I guess I should have included an image earlier to make my point a little more clear, sorry
Here we go:
You will notice that New Tristram is built on the side of the Cathedral opposite to the side with the graveyard, therefor the graveyard can't be seen because you aren't on the right side to see it.
River 1 runs to the left of Old Tristram and thus to the right of New Tristram. River 2 runs right of Old Tristram. They match up, no errors.
The only thing wrong is that the Cathedral is missing its tower. Other than that, the white-out look of the masonry is due to the new style and the fact that it's partial daylight. You will notice that it's raining. The overcast from rainclouds, if not too heavy and if present during the daylight hours, will create a pale wash. So, no problem with the color, either way you look at it. If you text the color in a color editor, it shows up as a shade of grey, therefor it is not white.
And, like Genesis said, it's concept art. We know it's a picture of New Tristram because it's labeled so, and we know the other part is Old Tristram because it's in ruins, like they told us.
The cinematic has the old church of Tristram in it. The new church is the church of the Triune duh. http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/artwork/ss56-hires.jpg
For anyone who has read the trilogy this much should be clear.
The question remains, why does the new church have a similar a hole?
I suggest one of you post this topic on b.net forums and see if Bashiok just might respond.

Ok, I don't think the big building is the Cathedral from D1 either. I do think...as I posted before...that the area with the rocks is old Trist and the area I circled is the silhouette of the old Cathedral. I'm guessing the area in the foreground is new Trist. My two cents in this whole mess.

Why isn't the anti-aliasing higher when they take these screenshots?

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
You would have thought he would have at least put some buttresses on it. Idk know what to make of all this.
[EDIT] Lol, Magi, I completely missed your post. ><
