Throwing expansions at a game really cheapens it in my opinion. How can Diablo III feel epic if you know they're will be an even bigger boss with an even more surprising plot twist in a few months?
Woo, we could get like a Xiansai expansion (where the Wizard is from, with an Asian theme), a Skovos Isles expansion (Amazon homeland, maybe even a way to play the Amazon class), a Scosglen expansion (ditto for Druids), etc. More expansions could give us opportunities to explore these places in Sanctuary that we probably won't get to explore in the first version of DIII. I would love that. I'm certainly not worried about the story getting boring, I'm more worried about having too much of the lore being left out of the games.

He didn't announce that there would be Diablo 4, you need to read a bit more carefully:
I don’t think Blizzard will ever be able to do sequels of products like a “Diablo III” or “Diablo IV” on an annual basis, but we might be able to do expansions to those games close to annually.
He said they will probably not be able to do sequels like D3 and then D4, which is what they are doing with WoW. The Burning Crusade is a seuqel and upgraded WoW to version 2.0, and WoTLK upgraded WoW to version 3.0. So they might not be doing that, but rather expansions that are like LoD for D2, (1.0 -> 1.07). There's no mention that there is going to be a Diablo 4, rather that there won't be, and if there would have been, it would mean the same engine, the same base game, and another three or four acts, seeing to which extent WoW expansions/sequels basically multiplied the content. Almost doubled it. That is what he is saying. He is saying that we probably won't be getting WoW-like expansions that upgrade the game from Diablo 3.0 to 4.0 and double the content, but rather smaller expansions like LoD.
I'd just also like to mention that I would be really glad to see several expansions to D3. If anything was disappointing about D2, it was the lack of content. Obviously since it turned out to be most popular as an online game. It surely lacked substance for a full-blooded online RPG.

That would be great, especially if they introduced new playable characters with each addition. This increases the chance of all of us getting our favorite characters included in D3. I really hope they do more patches than they did in D2. There's still so many things they could have fixed and didn't. I guess that's why we need a D3

you guys are crazy for thinking a year isnt long enough to build your character and experience the expansion....i had lod nailed after a month or two of its release. 1 year between releases sounds much better
maybe give this 1 or 2 expansions, then move on to Diablo IV

Diablo III release next year?!?!?!
Haha - far fetched, but hopefully possible.
Have you heard what they did to Starcraft 2? Haha... not a chance.

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.

I dont understand why everyone is acting like this is new news and already debating wether or not there should be patch updates or expansion updates...they will most likely have both since blizzard already hinted before that there will be multiple expansions for diablo 3 and im sure that in between expansions there shall be patch updates...ther real thing is why is there nothing new to read about, im just about done reading anything there is to read about diablo 3 and now moved onto starcraft 2 updates so i can feel closer to diablo 3 if anything is announced on starcraft...by the looks of it diablo shall be released early 2010 which sucks bc i dont want to wait 6 months for every little announcement

That'll be SICK!
Bring the druids and Scosglen!
Let's explore Xiansai!
I'm so into it. Great idea. Blizzard MUST do this.
Oh, and I think we will enter hell through the crater!
i would hate to have too many expansions. i got so sick of WoW when they announced WotLK and so i quit. WoW is a dying star, so if blizz wants to replace it with diablo, meh

uhh no....
We have no idea what the characters are going to be. It might not be called the necromancer. It might as well be some unHoly Paladin or something.

WoW makes more money in two months than D3 ever will with all the sales combined, even with the most optimistic selling rates.
