Thanks for understanding, Dimebog. I wasn't actually part of the contest-rules decision-making process, but I understand why they did what they did.
Arkeband: I think that there are way more than 20 good suggestions in the lot. There were only 20 prizes to give away, so if only the best 20 went to blizzard, there could have been good suggestions that may not have made it to blizzard. Who are we to judge what blizzard will or won't like? There could be unexpectedly good ideas in there. Its much better this way to give them all to blizzard and let them decide.
It doesn't really matter if there are one-sentence suggestions in the lot either. Its not like its going to take them very long to read through single sentences and move on to the better ones.
Well I can already tell you that if you rule out ideas that are all the same (trading boards, titles, pretty much anything wow-inspired), you would have a very small pool of ideas. I think you'd probably have around 30. And then it's up to the most innovative, which I was under the impression (as was most people) that Blizzard would decide between those and send it back to you. It's like judging essays, except these essays can get a pass or fail with one glance at them.
And my problem aren't single sentence wonders, I just feel bad for Bashiok when he gets to humongous posts that do nothing but repeat a previous poster, but with awful grammar.
People would complain saying 'omg I had a better suggestion' etc.
And then you'd say, Well, did you say the same thing everyone else did? "...yes :(". Well, there's your answer.
But then there's the whole "wanting to please the majority" thing too when ideas are repeated a lot. And when you read an idea often it gets drilled into your head. Well okay, you do get a little sick of hearing the same thing over and over as well. So okay, there are good and bad points either way. But if Blizzard were to judge them all, they would have to read them all anyway, but it would just be giving them extra work to have to order them and award the top 20.
Blizzard judging them and sending them back does sound pretty cool, but that doesn't seem like it was ever an option. I think this is the closest we will ever get to being involved with Blizzard.
If we judged them instead of Blizzard, we may still be missing good ideas. There's a big difference between 20 and 30. That's at least 10 possible good ideas lost. It doesn't seem like much, but its a lot considering only 20 would have been sent.
Call it what it is though; a drawing and not a contest. Thats like half way through the Olympics if the comittee decided just to hand out medals via raffle tickets. You'd have a lot of pissed off athletes. Imagine how that taekwondo dude would react. lol.
Spaz, it wasn't just the winners who are having their voices heard, ALL of the entries were sent to Bashiok and he will decide which ones Blizzard gets to read. And yes, I agree, that's definitely what the real prize here was... the potential to win one of the 20 random WWI cards was just an added bonus.
I also wanted to share this awesome message I received with all of you:

As you may know by now, I do not play WoW. Therefore I would like you to forward the email request for the contest prize to Elfen Lied. I think he has done much for this site and is deserving of a consolation of sorts. If this is at all possible please do so and tell him it was a gift from me;)
May the Divine Winds fill your sails,
Muderface

It just wouldn't feel right to hock Tyrael on ebay to some random person:D
Thank you, Elfen is a good guy, and I'm pretty sure he mentioned that he played WoW, although I'm not sure if he still does.
I pretty much just wanted to give my two cents in the hope that they (Blizzard) might read it and take into consideration, that's all.
Talk about being generous AND a good sport.
From myself and the rest of the Diablofans staff (especially Elfen heheh), thanks a lot Murderface.
first off, congratulations to the winners.
now, i am a bit dissapointed about the way you guys went about deciding, well i guess it wouldnt be deciding since you didnt have any part in a randomly generated lottery style of picking winners. based on what i read in the rules set before us i would imagine you wanted information on pvp and trading, perhaps i just didnt think outside the box but when the rules say:
**Simply be creative and post one or more detailed suggestions or your personal wishes for the Diablo 3 Team ... What do you want to see in Diablo 3 concerning Trading features and PvP features. Post them below.**
now... if i had asked the question, and ill use baseball as an example cause i play and know quite a bit about the sport...
*simply be creative, i would like some detailed suggestions on how to be a better baseball player... what can you tell me concerning pitching and batting. Post them below.*
had that question been asked and some guy gave me all kinds of imformation on how to play 3rd base or be an outfeilder or gave me an exercise routine... although they are good suggestions thats not what i was looking for in an answer. although it was not crystal clear and the question was a bit vague i alluded to wanting to know only about pitching and batting.
same goes for what you guys asked... why was there a line asking for info on trading and pvp if thats not what you wanted to hear? why didnt you just leave it at posting personal suggestions for the diablo 3 team? also, i noticed a comment on how you checked that each winner had a different IP so you knew it was not from someone creating multiple accounts and reposting. why didnt you just say it was going to be a random drawing then? if you have a way of verifying that each entry is from a single computer and there couldnt be multiple posts from the same person, then you should have stated it would be random.
either way, it was a very poor judging decision and can hardly be called a "contest" in my opinion. and for the guy that said 308 posts is near impossible to read and judge.. LOL.. that just proves you are a very lazy judge. it could easily be narrowed down to 50 good, quality, detailed entries concerning pvp and trading. from there it would not be hard to pick the top 20, based on innovative ideas, profound statements, well thought out and detailed explanations and examples.
it seems you have justified yourselves and will probly delete my post after you read this but for future reference, if you are going to have a contest set the rules, follow them, dont ask for information on a specific topic if you will accept anything, if its going to be a randomly assigned lottery pick win state so.
overall, im dissapointed, i dont care that i didnt win as i hardly play wow enough to want a beta key or pet which isnt helpful. but i am dissapointed in thinking that a well thought out post had no weight against a loosly thrown together idea. oh well, end of my venting, i feel better now.
oh and again, congratulations winners. you got a /roll higher than me
I read a lot the posts, and I guess a prize motivated some good ideas! None the less, hopefully blizzard will take some of these ideas into consideration, because a large portion of the people who will be playing Diablo 3 will be the people who go to this website. Some people don't like the idea of straying away from what Diablo 2 was in terms of gameplay and artwork, but it is my opinion that these new features that are foreign to loyal original Diablo fans will be the same features that will draw the next generation of Diablo fans. Ten years from now, there may be some loyal Diablo 3 fan ranting about how Diablo 4 strays away from the formula: Innovation requires risks.;)
It just seems somewhat silly that I could have posted "d3 is poopy" and been given a WWI card when somebody else spent an hour explaining their ideas for the game yet walk away empty-handed.
ha i could see the look on there faces if they saw 40 of the ideas only saying "d3 is poopy"...
they probably would never visit this site agian...

they could completely disregard everything, or purposefully make everything the opposite... and not lose significant sales. 7k members here, D2 sold 4.5 million copies as of 2001. diablo series altogether 18.5million copies worldwide(various google search numbers)
Assume D3 was a flop in blizzard terms, selling only a million copies.. these forums would be less than 1% of the playerbase.
Hope for it, sure... but don't bank on it as if we're a key demographic.

We are also the demographic that thinks upon the subject the most. Just because we aren't the majority doesn't mean we don't have ideas that would bring more players into Diablo 3, and make it a successful title.
Aw, shucks.:cute:I hope Elfen still plays WoW.
Yes. Yes he does
I should really get back on my tauren and play with him...
I still have that level 28 Orc, but recently I switch to the Kil'Jaeden realm. So I can't play with your tauren.
Not sure which character I want to spend my pet code on yet.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
What the hell is this? A bloody randomiser? Bashiok (or whoever) should take the time to look at ever post and decide who deserves the prize. Now, I do not play WoW and I don't even live in the US or EU, but I still feel that a randomiser was the worst idea.
