I think it would be more appropriate if evil had run amok all across the land, then darker skys and atmosphere would be more apropriate. Who knows. It might be that when you get to the Arreat Crater, it may have the darker atmosphere everybody is craving. I'm just guessing, of course.
LoL, Nope, pic on the left is from Blue Dragon which is a 2007 RPG game (Aug 28, 2007), you can check it yourself on any game site.
But actually you missed the point, Style is not related to graphics quality, it has to do with color choices, anatomy, and facial features, and the difference between D3 and Blue Dragon styles tells the whole story.
6) Thou Shall Not Use the C Word This is bull shit I will say "cartoony" to describe blizzard style and the diablo 3 art direction.
Style is related to the graphics, because style is something you see and that’s what graphics gives…. color, anatomy/facial features (how the characters looks)...to see dammit ...
diablo 3 art direction deserves to be called cartoony because there is no value in the color there is no real sheds and tones there are just big blobs and blocks of color and that essentially what cartoony art style is drawings with flat plane color. We are not afraid of color what we are afraid of are colors that doesnt fit the part. We want color… We don’t want some thing that’s all out gray. I am not saying their cant be bold colors I just don’t want them on screen jumping at me from all direction at all the time. I don’t mind bold bright colors that comes when you use your skill I actually love that I think its great but the environment shouldn’t be so color full that it losses it quality and losses sight of the Diablo world. All I am saying is be artistic go ahead and stylize Diablo but don’t stray it away from what Diablo 1 and 2 looks and feels like and what maid it fun to just look at.
I am basing this on the demo and scren shot and I understand its not done yet but this will give them an idea of what people dont want so they can hopefuly have it the way it should be by the time we have it in our hand
"You have already grasped that Sisyphus is the absurd hero. He is, as much through his passions as through his torture. His scorn of the gods, his hatred of death, and his passion for life won him that unspeakable penalty in which the whole being is exerted toward accomplishing nothing. This is the price that must be paid for the passions of this earth. Nothing is told us about Sisyphus in the underworld. Myths are made for the imagination to breathe life into them."
i love it, especially the commandment that shut down those petitioners, i wonder what the guy who started that thing is up to right now, picking his nose probably, and eating the boogers.

Some cartoony games have very high quality grahpics, while some realistic games have shitty grahpics, simple as that, graphics quality is not related to style in any way.

I don't what kind of monitor you have, or what kind of low-res screen-shots of Diablo 3 you are getting, but i see detailed textures, i see shades of color and i'm pretty sure there aren't any BLOBS involved, you are talking about WoW art style not D3.
The environment is just fine and true to real color palettes, go check how nature is colorful during AUTUMN, i don't know what loss of quality are you talking about here really.
I love how you've gone and said that, and then posted an entire post that's completely off-topic. This topic happens to be: "IGN Reveals Ten Commandments Of Diablo III."
lols, that's really funny, did you read them, one of them happens to be about the artstyle of the game which involves every single thing i included in my post, it is on topic.
Stop telling people what to do.
I should be telling you that, i'm not the one who started petitions to tell Blizz how to do their job, i mean they had screen-shots in the petition saying ( that's how it SHOULD look like ), really !!!
If I see Blizzard tampering with the things that made me love the series, I'm going to call them out on it; it's their choice whether they listen or not, not yours.
Funny how you make it sound like the fans own the game and Blizz are the ones illegally tampering with it, it is thier game and they do whatever they want with it, if people don't like that, theey should just look for other games outthere ( i'm not telling people what to do, that's just an advice in case you guys didn't like D3  )
And sure they have the choice to listen or not, but you are making it sound like you represent all the fans of the game while you are really NOT, this kind of false pressure can affect the game development very negatively.
Furthermore, it's hilarious how you continuously ramble on about Diablo III being "stylised," but you never seem to tell us what makes it so extremely "stylised." It seems to me that you are merely euphemising the word "cartoony," y'know, the one that's breeching IGN's 6th Commandment of Diablo III.
It is not extremely stylized at all, Stylized yes, because that's Blizz 3D artstyle and not every stylized look is cartoony, Style is an attribute of artwork that includes many artistic directions, one of them is cartoon, but D3 definitely doesn't fall under that.
The huge shoulder pads are very cartoon-like, whether you want to admit it or not. The shoulder pads, at best, are heavily influenced by World of Warcraft and at worst, are down-right copies of some of the shoulder pads seen in World of Warcraft.
Again, you seem to be fueled by your hate for WoW artstyle, Large Shoulder pads are a common trend in Sci-Fi and Fantasy, they fit the personality of the Barbarian class very well, and they are were not cartoony when they were used in Gears of War and didn't seem out of place, GoW which has and artstyle that represents a bloody, gritty, muddy, devastated apocalyptic world, NOT CARTOON.
Fans have every right to voice their opinions, you have no right to tell them otherwise.
When there is a good reason to, not because of their lack of knowledge about the game industry and the process of making a game, which in the stage of PRE-Alpha and have many many months before it comes out, they can voice their opinion at the BETA if the game still had problems, because that's what a BETA is supposed to used for ( not online petitions )
Doesn't the fact that you have to point out that the light radius is still in the game ring any bells
Just because most people didn't pay attention or watched low quality vids it doesn't mean it wasn't quite obvious, i noticed it clearly because not all the dungeon were lit, many parts of it were dark specially those with no torches.
IMO the new light system is much better than the old magical spot light that follows you around.
Speaking of attention, i wonder how many people saw the siege weapon walking in the dungeon, would we have been able to see it if we had the old light system, i don't think so.
6-months down the line when their criticism is completely useless?
You are being very optimistic, the game is so far from being released any time soon, it has been only few weeks since the announcement, expect at least one or two years more of work, which will involve a BETA, and we all know what a BETA is for.
At the end of the day, Diablo III is going to receive criticism; you're not Blizzard's knight in shining armor, and the criticism they receive isn't making them suicidal. I don't see why you feel the need to defend them to the death, you're not getting anything out of it, and if anything, you're indirectly harming their product. After all, the worst criticism an artist can recieve is none at all. I'm sure Blizzard's artists would very much appreciate the constructive criticism.
Subjective criticism is destructive, specially when it is mixed with lack of knowledge about the current level of development the game is at ( we only say a glimpse of it ) and lack of knowledge about art and nature, all those petitions were also packed with is nostalgia, and that doesn't constitute any valid arguments.
EXAMPLE:
Q u o t e:
Not only will they be forcing players to run in circles like mindless chickens, but they will make hardcore and softcore gameplay harder, slow paced, and over all less attractive.
That's a lot of conclusions to jump to in a single sentence. Classes will have abilities to help them work through groups of monsters. Obviously health globes are going to be necessary to pick up, and obviously class abilities will exist to help you do so.
And, come on , I realize there's a lot of room for hyperbole since we just announced and a lot of details aren't out there or just don't exist, but at least have the ground before you call it a mountain. Rational concerns, complaints, issues, questions, are going to go over way better.
That's what you get when you make non-rational speculations and arguments based on nostlagia, that is not criticism at all
and if anything, you're indirectly harming their product.
Ahm .... So you say i'm harming their project by liking it, how does that make any sense, i watched every freaking art panel and interview and completely understand their argument and support it since they already addressed many of the things the people are complaining about and already tried the D2 art style and it didn't work, so how is supporting something you like and understand is harming the game, ............ sigh
Consider the amount of critisizm Shigeru Miyamoto received when he made Zelda Wind Waker in a very cartoony cel-shaded style, he ignored all the whining and released the game, and it became a big hit, everybody liked it very much, because it was the vision of the designer and the artists, not the fans.

For god's sake, i tired so many RPGs and MMORPGs and many of them degenerate into potion spam which is stupid IMO, what's the skill in mashing a button mindlessly, Health Orbs adds a lot to the game and denying that is just not right.
-It encourges team work since any team member will get healed if he is near someone who took a Healt orb -It encourages use of tactics and potisional combat which requires some skill and thought ( Gasp !!!? ) -It keeps you fighting instead of going back to town every five minutes to stock potions
If they are trying to sell the new design choice, they doing it for GOOD meaningful reaosns not Nostalgia.
Problem Solved?
Problem solved is when Blizzard come to the news and tell us : WE ARE NOT MAKING THIS GAME FOR THE DIABLO FANS, SO STFU.
Untill they keep trying to sell us D3 as a Diablo game for Diablo fans, but with casual gamers design decisions I wont keep quiet.

I really pity the amount of spam and mindless arguments he has to wade through on B.net forums because of immature fans who can't even make a proper argument or complaint and just nitpick for the sake of nitpicking.
And the game is made for everyone not for Diablo fans only, cause that doesn't make any sense, a good sequel has to have a balance between the previous installments and the fresh things to attract new people.

Hunter-Wolf, I'm done with you. You've failed to refute most of my points
What points are you talking about, is it the rabbits or the armor that can be seen in many other franchises, or ... or .. or ... it doesn't matter really because all those points are really nitpicking and pointless to talk about if you can't see they don't have any solid gorund at all.
and the ones you attempted to refute are full of immature flame or irrelevance. You've proved that you're just here to troll, and I'm above that.
Me, flames, are you for real, i'm not the one who called you ( another use for the "C" word ) when i was just showing you that you didn't even know what Blue Dragon RPG was !!!, it is clear who is the troll and immature here.
For a 24-year-old, you're incredibly immature, and somewhat naive. I'll be the bigger man here, and call it a day.
Making it personal is not really going to prove your points at all, it proves you are everything you are describing people as, i'm fed of your childish behavious and non-constructive argumanets, it is all a waste of time really, in the end D3 will be what Blizz wants it not what a specific group of the fans who think they are SO hardcore want it to be, so don't be dissapointed when nothing major changes.
With more online arcitles on the way that keeps mocking this mentality ( like the internet hates D3 and this one ) i'm sure it is all going to fade into oblivion.
Off to make something more productive than arguing about tirivial complaints that don't make any sense.
And don't bother replying cause i'm not going to reply again, i'll go to some place i know where there are some good constructive arguments about the game and its elements, not whining.

"This place is thick with the stench of ghouls"
Said the Barbarian before proceeding to slaughter everyone
If people fail to understand that the style in D3 is simply Blizzd 3D art style then they should stop playing Blizz games, all their games in 3D are stylized to give it a clear sharp personality specially with all the market bumping gray, brown relaistic dark clones in all game genres, they all look boring, muddy, and similar.
People seem to want D3 to turn into, Dark place #1, Dark place #2, Dark place#3, etc etc
As for the regular arguments
Rainbows= Go check a waterfall nearby, and don't be shocked to find a rainbow there, and it will still be there even if zombies have infested the whole world, cause natural light refraction has nothing to do with evil or zombies.
Rabbits= Did you guys even play D2, check ActV, they have somethings running around .... RABBITS ( gasp !!! )
Armor= It is huge indeed, but a guy at that size can wear an armor this large if he wants and can still fight with ease, and large armor pads are not cartoony, they exist in many games, movies, etc etc, WH 40,000 and Gears of War are just two examples, besides, armor comes in all sizes XD
Textures= they are freaking detailed even though they are not finished yet, fact is, all games get a huge graphical polish before release.
Light Radius= still in the game, go watch a high quality video and you will notice it, only difference is that the game is not pitch black and the edges of the light radius are softened.
Smiley Lion= i wouldn't have noticed that unless i was nitpicking, but whatever, smiling demons or winged lions are still Gothic style architecture, just add some more textures to it and it will look just fine, which is naturally going to happen before game release ( still think the game is so fast based and played from a zoomed out isometric camera, i wonder who has freaking time to look at tiny smiley winged lions )
Colored ambient= aside from setting mood, they are natural phenomenas, usually large places ( like the huge cavern we saw in the demo, yes it is an huge cavern not your typical D1,D2 floored dungeons ) has ambient light ( light blue due to sky color or the moon at night ), and through multiple reflections off surfaces the ambient light can exist inside a large place like the one we saw in the demo as indirect lighting, there is nothing weird or strange about it (mix the yellow light of the torches with the blue ambient light in the cave and you get your green ambient light near torches )
I'm sure the other places we will see in the game will have different colors and ambients, sometimes darker than the one we saw, sometimes brighter, which is called variety and is a very good thing IMO.
Please go back to WoW and leave us alone, us adults wish not to be bothered by your ignorance.

Brilliant debate skills!
Rainbows and rabbits are not the bane of existence in Diablo. I'm personally going to worried about the demons trying to tear out my heart and devour it than a bunny hopping by or a rainbow in the background.
Ok... Back onto the topic of the IGN commandments.. I saw this and was floored:

And, of course, the team is going to throw lots of enemies at the player to further emphasise just how strong the characters are. Not to mention bosses -- they're a real focus for Diablo III, and Blizzard is trying to make them much more interesting, involved and epic than in Diablo II. Rob Pardo even mentioned series' like [I]The Legend of Zelda[/I'] and God of War as sources of inspiration. Nice.
Dayum... But yea, how can you NOT get insperation from Ocarina of Time's final boss... Hehehe...
Oh, and:
