Each WOW realm server is actually four servers, the eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Outland, and Battlegrounds/Instances are all housed on different physical servers. This works out to about 1200 servers, and presuming they add a fifth for the Northrend continent in the expansion we are right near to 1500.
I'm sure diablo and all other battlenet infrastructure will probably be upgraded with WOW's old servers.
This type of thing (responding to a thread that has been dead for 2 years) is what we would call a "thread necro". These are frowned upon by modern posting society.
