Hey, I respect any man's opinion, but when you insult me when you disagree, especially my intelligence, you'll catch the horns.
Sorry, but If D3 isn't released in a year or two then my enthusiasm will be all but drained. I've already grown bored of Diablo 2 and its just a matter of time before I forget about the future of the series altogether.
I hear first semester of premed chemistry is almost unbearable... and I'll be taking it in a years time. I won't have much time to get acquainted with a new Diablo game at this point in my life.

The longer they take on D3 will just make it better and most hyped, don't lie to yourself. If Diablo releases in 5 years.. I'll be celebrating like crazy, than say like next year... nonetheless, 5 more years of dev = better graphics, more time for you to buy a better computer, get college out of the way, more hype. I prefer 5 years than now.
Makkara, I second that. College = great time to play games and go nuts.
I played some WoW in college among others and found I had plenty of time for gaming, academics and an active social life. In fact, I found lots of time to meet friends online and play Company of Heroes and CoD.
Don't worry about rushing through college because you might find that it ends up being the greatest time of your life. I speak for myself, however, so I can't speculate on anyone else's feelings about it. I'm just offering some opinion
Actually I typed my post a little too quick. I'm sure 5 years from now would bring a better Diablo 3 than right now. Think about WoW for a second, what if they released WoW this month instead fo 3 years ago? Better graphics, more thought out mechanics, just overall better from technology and time, but thats just imo =P I believe After college is better to play games, if your like me, college + work.. after college, just work. =P But everyone is different =P
Wow, it's weird to see how a conversation evolves after 50-some pages.
Denial, Speculation...then moving to surrounding areas of thought...like time to play and enjoy the game, time to get "teh moneyz" to keep the lights on and eat and...you know...keep playing games.
This isn't an unfavorable topic of conversation, it just has a few depressing undertones. Oh well, talk about anything for more than a few minutes and you're bound to expand into other venues of conversation.
Anyway! I too am interested in some sort of timeline to see if it's possible that is this "Team 3" could not only be D3, but also take (roughly) the same amount of time that D/D2/D2X development teams took.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
Sorry for a second post, but I just had another point to make.
From my experience, Game Design can parallel Graphic Design in many ways. The one that seems to be most prevalent (and most fitting here) is the idea of revision.
Let's say you're working on a logo for your client. You can stay at the thumbnail stage for days just pumping out quick idea after quick idea. But eventually you need to pick the best thumbnails and move on to more evolved roughs. and from there take the best to completely flesh out and show the client.
Blizzard could do the very same. Pump out cool game mechanic after cool game mechanic but unless they pick the best and move on, they'll not get anywhere.
A great Designer and mentor once said: "A design is never really finished, it can only be made its possible best for that time."
Too true.

Yes, 5 years from now could bring a better Diablo 3, but in that amount of time it could also bring a couple D3 expansions. I'm always a man for instant gratification, which means I want D3 NOW!!! D3 is already hyped enough and is at its zenith. To wait any longer to announce it would, I believe, lead to a slow and steady decline of fans. Most people fell in love with D2 when they were between the ages of 11-17, and by the time D3 is released many will be between the ages of 20-26 and beginning the most laborous and time consuming part of their lives. Some will play it religiously (I hope I can), others will buy the game and play it every now and then (never getting the same thrill they got out of D2 because they just don't have enough time to get to a high level and collect elite equipment), still others will, by this point in their life, consider it a childish game and concentrate on their schoolwork, new job, Fiance, or even their children.
I have faith that Blizzard recognizes this and will put out D3 very soon before some of their established fanbase is alienated and their target customers, 11-17 year olds, are tied up with another company's game.

I am in the group who discovered Diablo (I) around the age of 11 (when it was released, 1996) and my obsession with Blizzard products grew from there. A friend of mine introduced me to Warcraft (which was a 1994 release, I had found out about it after my Diablo foray) and at the time I was unaware that it was a Blizzard game. It came as no surprise that games as good as WC1 and D1 were produced by the same outfit.
My point is since I was hooked at that ripe age on Blizzard software and had firmly picked my favorite of their fledgling franchises, is it not unwise of Blizz to unleash a new franchise so as to provide some new footing for younger players to grow into life-long Blizzard loyalists?
Believe me - I'll go nuts if Blizz doesn't announce Diablo 3 soon, but it's not altogether unreasonable to think that they have a new series brewing for sometime in the forseeable future.
Is it not unrealistic to think that somewhere in the bowels of Blizzard HQ there may be an elusive "Team 4" that has just begun preliminary work on a new franchise?
Yes, that could be... but why not just release a D3 to appeal to the target customers AND the fanbase instead of a whole new franchise?
I don't doubt for a second that they are planning or working on a new franchise while at the same time working on D3, but the 3 gaming series that made Blizzard what it is today cannot be forgetten about.

I totally agree. Although it is a fact that SC2 was announced prior to a D3 announcement. So is it safe to say that D3 will be released after SC2? I'm fairly certain that there has been somewhat confirmed news that the next Diablo title has been scrapped and reworked. Does this mean that we could be facing a one-two punch of epic proportions?
I'm excited to see if the next Diablo title is actually more like 70% complete whereas SC2 may be 35% complete (totally arbitrary numbers, but for the sake of argument that's what I picked) because of its status as having already been worked on.
Would it anger SC fans to see their game announced prior to a Diablo title and see that title come out of the gates quicker than SC2?
My guess is no because SC fans already have a great preview of what to expect and a hands-on experience awaiting them at Blizzcon with much more content to be added to the SC2 site in the coming months.
Their exposure to a title that doesn't fall in the same realm (hopefully) as a new Diablo title will douse any angst that a longer wait is in store. After all, SC:Ghost was supposed to be the new SC title and was publicly scrapped after having a website and fanfare devoted to it. Maybe this setback prompted a longer revision process for the Blizz team whereas Diablo was privately scrapped and re-worked further back and has since gained much more momentum.
I'm so intersted to see the developments. I hope all the news coming out of Blizzcon is positive and, moreover, more evenly distributed across the three franchises.
I realize I sort of took the discussion in a different direction there, but I had nothing to refute there - I'm on the same page. D3 should pick up new fans and appeal to long-standing fans.
Hye i have been playing blizzard games since diablo first came out and my obssession has only gotten worse over the years but i think that relasing information that diablo 3 is actually in the works would be the best thing for them right now. by doin so you would ensure the hype would still be there rather than disappoint them with this team 3 thing being complete b.s. but what other games would have 3 in them? you know team 3/DIABLO 3 there is a good chance that it is diablo 3 and i hoping agains all odds that it is diablo 3. but on the other hand i also can't wait for sc2 to come out so heres to hoping that blizzard and pull it together and get d3 out already.
I just wonder if it could be just another new World of Warcraft expansion. Or maybe even Starcraft:Ghost reimbursted. After all a CM on the blizzard forums stated "When our awesome new World War II first person shooter ships, you'll all be saying "aw why didn't I see that coming!"
Maybe that's a hint to a FPS game? Maybe that's a hint to Starcraft:Ghost?
fucken hell it better not be if it is i swear im quitting on this waiting crap lol

G4 covered the last blizzcon, but i wont think theyll cover this years because they usually advertise ALOT before they air something (i.e. E3 and comiccon (which was advertised durring E3). So G4 probably wont be doing Blizzcon this year. But anyway lets all hope for diablo 3! With diablo 3 and sc 2 coming out in the future i doubt ill have a social life anymore...
Anyway its good to be back on the good ol' forums guys.
