Wikipedia is a great stop for learning how to use a wiki. This cheatsheet provides ample information on how to use the more basic functions of a wiki. All of the commands listed in the Cheatsheet should work properly in our wiki as well.

There are much more things to learn from Wikipedia, the most useful of which is how to create tables.
The two pages are both from wikimedia, but do not contain exacly the same info. It might be worthwhile to look around a bit if you do not find exacly what you are looking for on the first page you happen to come across.
Understanding what exacly the authors mean isn't always simple either. If you are unsure of how something works, don't hesitate to ask for help.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

So, I was just looking at the builds page, and I noticed that its lists of builds is not dynamic. As in, unless someone is always updating that page, it's going to be out of date real fast. Is there a way for it to automatically display the builds for each character instead of just being manual lists? http://wiki.diablofans.com/index.php/Class_Builds
Well, not in the sense that the wiki iself goes through autmoatic updates and adds text. I mean, it's probably possible, but I don't know how, and certainly not without adding some script or program outside of the wiki itself.
However, there's a small help I guess, and that's to use categories. As long as new character build pages are created, you can easily click on the corresponding category and see if new builds have been added. However that requires all users to include the appropriate category tags when they create new articles, which will perhaps not always be the case. however, I believe this is the ailment of any wiki, which often needs to be fixed by the users themselves when they encounter problems like these.
This seems to be a more of a problem for eventual D3 classes I assume?

Yeah, when people are adding lots and lots of builds at once. But even with our current meager supply of Diablo II builds, it would be nice if we had the same thing going there. I might add a few when I start playing again with the reset and patch and all that just clicked in my mind.
Well a whole lot of "empty" articles are already there, so if they are written, they won't cause a problem. But I doubt there will be so many articles added in D3 at such speeds that we won't be able to manage.

How can i find certain diablo II items in the wiki? right now i can only find runes gems sets and uniques but i can't find normal weapons or armor. Am I missing something? Or is it still being created? because i have a lot of time on my hands and would like to add some information but i can't seem to find the articles that i could add to.
Also i think it would be easier if al the gem stats would be put on the gem page in stead of a seperate page.
Many item pages are yet to be created. Of the normal articles, only Boots, Gloves, Helms, Normal Armor and Barbarian Helms are as of yet done.
If you wish to add item articles, then I've just finished an extensive template to be used. I'll throw up a thread about it in a few minutes.

as for the runes, realy great page, the only thing that confuses me is the hellforge quest, it says both that the highest rune it can drop on hell is gul and that it can drop any rune. If i see stuff like that, am i allowed to edit it?
Definately, provided that you know the correct info Otherwise post here in the forum o contact someone who knows the answer, alternatively try to look it up yourself.

i also once saw stated that the unique small charm i dropped by both uber diablo and pandemonium diablo, can i edit that too? or is there some hidden meaning in mentioning pandemonium diablo that i missed?
Nope, Annihilus is dropped By Uber Diablo, and Hellfire Torch from The Pandemonium Event. So there's no hidden meaning, feel free to change that.
But generally, if you are unsure, point out the error to the rest of us and someone's bound to know.

and the set and uniques, i see most arent written yet, could i just start writing? or do i have to wait for a model?
The model was finalized just a few moments ago

i just looked at the normal unique belts and noticed the last 2 belts didn't had their defense listed(and i made some minor mistakes in some new articles), however i can only seem to edit the notes. I've noticed with more articles that i can't edit the upper part of the article, am i missing something?

and, where can i find item pictures of good quality without a black or red background on them?
found another thing: the normal unique shield 'the ward' has a base defence of 30-35(arreat summit) 100% defense bonus and +40 defense so it should have 100-110 defense, however acording to arreat summit and planet diablo it has 112 defense so i gues it has 112 defense?(something similair with heavenly garb)
Well something there is obviously incorrect. The Ward doesn't even have a defense range, even though the base defense does.
I checked the game files, and the 112 must be incorrect, as Gothic Shield has a base defense of 30-35, and The Ward has +40 defense and +100% defense.

sadly i can't get the items in the right collor with doctor test, when i pick a different pallet the image get's really ugly and messed up. so i'll just use the untransparant ones from arreat summit.(might be caused by my ancient pc?(i'll get a new one soon tho))
Only invgreybrown.dat is to be used. The other do indeed make things look shitty and aren't intended for items.

as to the 112 defense: i did just googeled a screen shot of the item in question having, indeed, 112 defense.
could it be that the item just has a fixed defense and the +40 and 100% are just there to confuse us?
No, the stats of the unique item are dictated by the game files, so there's something we've missed here.

and one more thing: if a certain property is variable, should we write (varies) or not? in the case of defense it might be clear that 2-3 means either 2 or 3 and in damage 2-3 means 2 to minimal and 3 to maximal, however when it says: ads 2-3 damage(to undead/demons), does that mean either 2 or 3? or 2 to min and 3 to max?
I suppose it would make sense to include "(varies)" in situations where it isn't clear exacly what it means. I'd stay away from it as much as possible though.

Alright, I've finally finished the classic set item pages. The one thing that still escapes me, however, is how the range value is calculated. Anyone know a good place to find it (either a site or in the game files)?
This probably sounds like a stupid question but I don't understand how I can access my account on the wiki. I'm guessing it isn't the same one as the forum account because it keeps saying this account doesn't exist when I try to log in to the wiki. Does this mean I have to make a wiki account? Just trying to get confirmation on this in case there's a way I can use this account for the wiki.
That is correct, your forum account is independent of your Wiki account. You will have to make another account for the Wiki. We've talked about (and, I believe, tried) integrating the two account systems, but they ended up being too different across two softwares to do so.

As an added point, I should probably point out that you are not required to register under the same user name in the wiki, although we strongly recommend you do so.
