I just through together a very simple gem calculator. You start by selecting the quality of the gems you are starting with, the quality of the gem(s) you are trying to make and the quantity desired. The output is the required mats you will need (starting gems, crafting gold and tombs).
Let me know if you find it useful and/or things that you would like to see added to help you out as a quick reference when crafting gems. Thanks!
15% AH fee factored into the crafting cost so that the minimum sell price to make a profit is now displayed in the results.
7.2.12 Updates
Added new auction house pricing feature that allows you to enter the current price of the starting gem quality as well as the prices for additional required materials (pages/tomes) giving you a grand total cost if you wish to purchase items from the AH.
One correction to make. Your calculator states that you need "Tombs" for crafting the higher level gems. It's actually spelled "Tomes" but nice job overall.
works awesome now i was able to prove selling gems is worthless on AH after you take out the 15% the profit is small at best, max level gem is selling at a loss lol. Thanks for the stuff and great work!

Sometimes you don't always know where you stand... until you know that you won't run away.
Hi thanks for the calculator, may I make a suggestion? Could you make an option for selling that minus'es the 15 percent off of "Said gem" so we can see if we will make money if we buy the materials and make it?

is there a chance u could include the 15% ah in another form ? So we'll know what the AH price should be to be able to make a (small) profit by putting it up.
Even tho this method prolly wont make profit, or atleast in EU where the AH prices for gems (even radiant star) are cheaper then actually having to craft it yourself.
I guess you could also add the "time" required for crafting these gems, summing the time for making each previous one plus the final one.
This would also help people to decide if the time spent crafting the gems are worth it, or if they should better buy an already crafted gem.
to get the 15% markup just take the number this gives you and divide it by 0.85. that will give you that amount to post it for too BREAK EVEN. if the ah price is the same or lower you may as well not even craft them to sell.
these are made up figures just to show you what i mean. gem costs 100 dont post under 118 or you lose money.

100/.85 = 117.65
I went ahead and added this to the output under total cost. If you are able to sell the crafted gem for more than this number, you will be making a profit. Thank you for your post.

I find most of my tomes in tombs... : )
Just saying...
Nice work btw... Interesting to see how crazy the high end costs are, assuming you ever get the patterns (unlikely).

no sweat. i had to figure it out for the crappy spreadsheet i use so i thought id share the wealth. its also nice to know for any other ah listing you may be doing since its so easy to do on the fly.

Thank you for pointing that out. Should work correctly now.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention and taking the time to break it down. I believe I have found the issue and corrected it. Thanks again!
