I think the game definitely needs to go heavier in the gothic/dark direction, but I'll still buy it in it's current state. Graphics are nice but they don't make or break a game.
Unless that game is Crysis.

No but seriously. GFX are important for sure. In todays world we as gamers have become much much more demanding on what we like and don't like.
The gfx of games today has become a HUGE immersion factor in how we as gamers interact with the game surroundings. In the case of the old diablo games, gloom and shadow was on the agenda and that made the games to what we love and cherish.
Today Blizzard obviously thinks that putting a 2 year old in a room with crayons for 5 hours is art design accomplished,
