Equinox - Making a random static IP address, unless properly done, won't allow you to use the internet anymore. If you already have an IP address manually entered, don't touch it. If you receive your IP addresses automatically, don't worry about it. The DHCP will give you a new IP address that works.
If you release your IP address. Remember to RENEW it back.
Kinda what I was talking about. Our IP is automatic, but it wasn't always so.
and i've done performed this activity in my own computer several times and i have no problem or what so ever error i have encounter with this activity.
You performed this activity on ONE computer. Therefore, you can only guarantee the safety of such an activity on your computer, or a similarly configured.
I am just saying be careful with telling people to do this if no one is sure what would this cause. Perhaps someone on this forum is good with internet stuff?
That's similar to along the lines of what I was thinking about it screwing with some systems. Some internet connections would destroy themselves if set to "Obtain an IP address automatically".

And you do realize that it's often impossible? Which means your method doesn't work for many situations.
