No. Not in Diablo 1. That is why the "life bar" was instituted in D2.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Holy Bolt. It can be used much in the same way as Equinox suggests with the bow. Only it will do more damage.
In D1 Holy Bolt does what it is suppose to do, double damage against unholy creatures such as demons and the undead. Holy Bolt pwns Diablo. Sadly this spell got nerfed in D2. It's a shadow of its former righteous self.
Alternatively you can use a weapon with fast or very fast attack speed. Leoric uses a sodding great big sword. He attacks slow, but to make up for this speed deficit, he steals life (via the Undead Crown). If you can do more damage over a period of time that he can you will best him with ease.
I guess the other problem is he is not alone. But his minions are far weaker than he is. Just run around constantly whacking the fodder till you get him down to a one on one.
Well in Single Player anyways, in multiplayer he can summon guys too.
