I hate when people say they want The Butcher to return to D3. To even say that is to fail to understand what made him so special in the first game. And they couldn't possibly recreate the dread one felt when seeing him in the first game. The new game will just be so polished and lack any real grit or rawness to have any Butcher or Catacomb like moments in them. They'll attempt it, sure. But it just won't succeed.
British Deathmars is right. Didn't I say Catacombs? It's my favorite part of Diablo and no game for me has ever come close to conveying such a claustrophobic panicky feeling as that part of the game.
btw. i remember another one of the butcher's greetings "i will make weapons from you bones"
That's the smith from Diablo 2. Like pretty much everyone has said, the atmosphere were simply amazing and Diablo 2 never quite lived up to that. I remember for the longest time loving Arkaine's Valor so much because it was the only armor i got for a while that was actually tier 2 and changed the graphic of your character.
Mm hm. Until you could start getting the really good armor sets that gave so many points to all attributes, Arkaine's was one of the only suits of armor worth squat.
I seemed like blood to me. And I also interpreted it as Hell just managing to open up inside of Sanctuary. So it all the fire hadn't spewed forth yet. It's mostly just bodies everywhere and bits of bone sprouting here and there.
Hell's music was, seriously, so fucking creepy. I'd say it's equally as creepy as the Catacombs but just different. I loved how D1's Hell was all about blood and gore and there wasn't actually any fire or brimstone anywhere. And big sharp bones jutting out of the ground.
Yes! People talk about the Catacombs music the most I think, but the Cathedral is an incredible track. It feels like such a prelude to the horror you're about to be exposed to.
Yeah, the towns in D2 are actually spotless compared to the litter found in D1. I always had so much crap scattered all over the place. Especially blue items I bought from Griswold.
There is new lore for the Goatmen, though I'm not particularly fond of it. I liked thinking of them exclusively as creatures of Hell. But it now turns out they were regular mortals to begin with.
Apocalypse was just a crazy imbalanced ability. And most people couldn't even use it much unless they had a hacked staff or something.
Some of my favorite moments include any time I used the infravision spell to see shitloads of infrared monsters on the other side of the wall patiently waiting for me.
