It's just as amusing to me that you could go down to the next level and there's no way a monster would follow you down there. Like in Morrowind how you could flee an enemy in a cave, but there's no way in hell that guy's gonna exit the cave and come after you.
Gharbad the Weak is actually an interesting quest for me. I liked that you could have dialogue with someone as significant as he was. It didn't progress the story in any way, but it did give some insight into the minds of the Goat Men.
I still do too but face it. You still don't get the same thrill out of the game has when you played it for the first time.
Somehow the game has never lost its impact on me. So I could play it, beat it, put it away for a few months, dig it up, play it again, beat it again. It never gets old for me.

I've had many discussions on why the first Diablo in many ways is a greater game than Diablo II. But I still think it's really fun to play today. I totally respect it for what it is and I think as far as gameplay and story, it's held up amazingly well to today's standards.
