thanks, - jitta
The first post should be edited. This server is dead and does not exist anymore.
The only thing it needs is one plain and simple word: organization.
Keeping a server open all the time is more trouble than it looks like, I'm sure Scyber realized. Even when I had a spare PC, after a few weeks it really annoyed me. Nevermind the fact that home hosted Minecraft servers... are generally too laggy.
Also, now with all the mods around, I'm not sure I'd even want to play in a servers thats too vanilla. At least, I couldn't live without Mo's creature mod. The game simply just ain't that excitting by itself, I have to say.
@ SF Jake:
after waiting two weeks, I removed your Iglo and moved all stuff to the residental area. It was in the middle of the farm/industrial area.
Right. Well, I don't care, I stopped. I had a MMO feeling like when I was playing WoW and this is the worst kind of addiction to get into, so I have no plan to come back.
Spawn points still locks up all nearby blocks and stops us from adding new stuff. It might sound silly, but I don't think the spawn should be in the city as long as that happens...
EDIT: Also, can I just take a spot and make a house? I'd like the spot in the winter biome. Not sure if I will make one in the city, but I'm asking just in case.
Most people are probably holding off for now since the last update introduced a bunch of bugs, but we're all still watching very attentively for fixes. In the meantime it's still possible to gather materials and poke around as well as develop the layout for the city. Don't give up just yet man - progress is being made
But the progress is slow and thats killing me Hopefully you're right, people are holding off for the bugs and it will eventually grow back up when the good fixes starts rolling in.
I see no point myself. The planning part was a lot more fun and lively. Now nobody is posting, I never see anyone online, and online is so laggy its unplayable. Well, its not more laggy than before, but when dealing with monsters, its the least fun thing I experienced in Minecraft, ever.
The reason I asked when people were playing was to try and get everyone together at the same time, instead of just all trying to get on at any time of the day and each do his stuff all alone. Whats the point in that?
I'm not expecting the net code to be fixed any time soon, so I'm for some reason, not expecting Notch to have this fun and playable with monsters for a good while.
Until then anyway, and until we actually get a bunch of us playing at the same time, my interest is sadly completely gone.
Well, just have to say one thing, this currently sucks. Why?
Invisible monsters. I keep losing health at totally random times. Heck, a few times a crater just spawned in front of me, and I lost 5 hearts. No sound effects, no monsters in sight.
Do you guys have any specific time to get on? I think we should organize this a bit, like say, everyone tries to come at 8 hours PM, GMT -5. (random time here) Point is just to try and get people on at the same time. I find myself wanting to play sometimes, but all alone is not so thrilling. Or with leftcopy and mrtmine which speak with themselves in some other language. (I thought this server was English only).
I would suggest we use a server mod to get a whitelist for the server. This should reduce potential griefing to almost zero. As it stands now anyone could give the IP to a friend who can just join in whenever. That friend could also give the ip to another friend etc etc. If we wish to keep it within DiabloFans limits fairly well we should have a whitelist.
Should probably go with hMod(Hey0) http://wiki.hey0.net/Main_Page
It also comes with loads of useful features such as usergroups, motd and more.
Nice with the update, I just hope it's not full of annoying bugs
That mods looks basic enough yet has all those little features that sounds very useful to have. I support this.
Don't take my words as any sort of disrespect, but I can't agree on this. I'm a bit annoyed, but so be it. The decision is made.
I don't find the current state of our city bad, building wise, except for the simple fact that it has no organization whatsoever. Just actually placing the houses next to each other in an organized fashion will go a long way to feel like a city, regardless of their size.
I thought that was a point of the town. Or city. To be a huge project. One that can't be accomplished in a few days or a week, one thats going to be huge and impressive.
If we're aiming small, why are we even making a city? I don't see what all having our stuff at the same place is of any concern. Except it makes us that much easier to grief.
When we keep hearing that the town needs to be small for practicality, then thats just it. You're building it to be practical instead of making it an impressive project like any other. Why? I'm not against some level of practicality but... especially in multiplayer, I'd think the goal was "think big". People have built gigantic stuff alone, after all.
Also, update on SMP health from his blog:
Here’s the status:
* Send attack network data: DONE
* Add the ability to attack other entities: DONE
* Implement falling damage: NOT STARTED
* Implement respawning for dead players: PARTIALLY DONE (there are bugs with the player keeping the current location in some circumstances instead )
* Make eating food regenerate health: DONE
* Send health updates to the players: DONE
The “attack entities” code is done on a general level, so you can hurt animals, monsters, boats, carts and even other players.
There are a couple of other tweaks in the next update as well:
* Fix leaves. Again: DONE
* Optimize the lighting update slowdowns: STARTED
* Make players riding carts or boats a long way receive terrain updates: DONE
* Fix the block re-spawning bug: NOT STARTED
* Add “pvp” toggle flag to the server settings: NOT STARTED.
Hey guys. Guess what. I tried to put 20$ on Ebay since November 3. It JUST came in. My god that took way too long.
You might see me on, I'm still not too interested in playing (nothing thrilling to do, I'm no builder, actually if you ever give me a role I'd like to be more of a Soldier than anything else, and I'd never mind helping people out for anything.)
So, yeah I was saying.. I'm not too interested in playing until the damage fix is up but I'm always intrigued about how the world is going so far, so if you're lucky (or not? :P) you might see me on.
Video I watched had monsters and health working :/.
Did it recently stop working or some shit?
They work in single player, not in multiplayer. You can have monsters in MP but they don't deal damage and you can't kill them, so its pointless to have them.

Not very fun for now.

Right now we're just building whenever, wherever.

Another small thing. I've been told here and there that there is a command to show who's online, something like..
/list
or
/playerlist.
None of these worked for me. Do you know anything about that? Did you somehow deactivate them in your server?
