Since the prime evils are not the rulers in Hell anymore, where did they go when they were defeated in Sanctuary in Diablo II ? If they were sent back to hell, then they probably would of been cast out of Hell again by the same Lesser evils no ?
I heard that they were banished in the the deepest abyss in hell, anyone can back that up ?
I'm thinking when we killed them in DII, they returned to hell. Now if you recall from recent lore, everyone expected hell to invade after the destruction of the world stone. But it didn't. I suspect that in the 20 years after DII, the Prime Evils clashed with the Lesser Evils to regain power. Alliances were forged, broken, etc etc, and the reigning powers finally marshalled forces to invade Sanctuary.

I don't know if anyone has given it any thought but it says the following on the very main page of the Diablo 3 site: "to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – and even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself."
Which seems to imply the threat will come from Heaven as well. Whether this is Tyreal or something else remains to be seen. There is also concept art on Tyreal which can be taken in several ways. Especially this one : http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/artwork/ss35-hires.jpg . The sketch on top looks like Tyreal doing battle with some other Angelic figure.
To me it's pretty clear that there will be strive between the forces of Heaven as well, but on which side Tyreal will be is something we can only guess at, I'm afraid.
Yeah, Tyrael had been admonished in heaven for his close involvement in mortal affairs. His destroying of the World Stone was probably the last straw. I'm excited to see where this goes.
