Crossbows feeling to much like guns? I can see that, mostly through her animations when she shots. I don't mind it honestly, I just see how someone could make the comparison.
Well, you could really easily compare the gameplay (At least, the gameplay that we have seen) to the Amazon in the same sense as the Barbarian compared to the Warrior.
And if you do that, the speed really isn't a factor. The only problem I would have would be the recoil, which, while there is a minuscule amount, nothing anywhere remotely near what a firearm may have.
Noone is doing "nu nuh"!. And the only one refusing to think about it is you since I made my point perfectly clear and you showed no response but aggression.
I believe you may need to re-read the thread. It may help you remember what was said.
ROFL. Nice way to run out of arguments and try to end the discussion being the smart ass.
Incorrect. I didn't run out of arguments, just got tired of people going "Nu huh!" and then metaphorically sticking fingers in their ears. I do apologize, but if people refuse to even think about it, there's no point for me to point out facts.
You didn't get any of my points. 1h melee weapons have 0 visual impact because those things actually exist in the past games.
And who the fuck are you to tell me i'm in the wrong genre/frnchise ? Realism exist inside every fantasy world. It exist inside anything you think and creat. And If it don't it's because you suck and don't kno how to think and creat. Now I hope you know what the word realism means and don't come here with counter arguments like "demons don't exist, it breaks the realism" because this only shows how you don't have a idea of what you're talking about.
The only reason i I accept some stuff and deny others is because how the flavor is presented to me. Blizz explianed to me why the barbarian is so strong, why the wizard use magic and why the amazon can shoot that amount of arrows. For all those things theres is a consistent background,
The DH lack any kind of background to explain why she use such unconventional/stupid methods to hunt demons. Aim with two pistols instead of one is ALLWAYS worse, i don't see how the fuck a high heels can help her hunting down demons and the explaination of her shadow magic is inconsistent with everything we knew about sanctuary's oring of magic.
The way the DH is presented makes her a alien in diablo's universe.
You know, you make excellent points, and I agree with you. The inclusion of dual 1h pistol crossbows has ruined Diablo 3 and nobody should buy it until Blizzard removes this travesty on the Diablo franchise.
The way the DH is presented makes her a alien in diablo's universe.
Wheras somebody wearing a two foot mask uttering 'ooga booga' and making frogs fall from the sky and someone in a kung-fu movie robe shooting laser beams fit, right?
Now you understand! Don't forget, the one hundred and twenty year old man makes perfect sense too. That damned dual crossbow wielder ruins the game for Mr Ooga Booga, Mr Kung-Fu man, and Mr Older Then Dirt.
The first has a very obvious explanation. The Bowazon is very fast
The second has an equally obvious explanation. The Barbarian is very strong That is made quite obvious by his ability to slam enemies across the entire screen.
The third is regarding ammo, the ability for game characters to store stuff without even having pockets on their pants, which I have stated multiple times that I ignore because there is no good way to explain it. I have no problems accepting things if they can't be explained. But I do want an explanation if there is room for one.
So you make excuses for everything else, but stick with 1h crossbows?
Alright, here's an equally simplistic explination: The Demon Hunter simply reloads her crossbows so fast you can't see her doing it. If you accept firing 3 arrows a second, you can easily accept this explanation.
I said that 1h crossbows didn't make sense because of the automatic reloading, not because they exist. Or can your crossbows reload by themselves?
You openly accept that Bowazons can fire three arrows a second, that barbarians can fight easily with two 150+ swords, that Assassins pull as many traps out of their ass as they want, but then get hung up on a crossbow mechanism to reload bolts into the crossbow?
And no, my crossbows don't reload. Neither can I fire three arrows a second, lift two 150+ swords, or pull traps out of my ass.
This is a fantasy game.
Why do people get hung up about the smallest details?
1h swords and such are easier to accept since those actually exist and makes perfect sense. A 1h crossbow makes as little sense as a 1h bow, mostly because of the lack of explanation to the reloading. Demon and such have an explanation, so they make sense, but this reloading does not.
I guess all you can do is try to think of the reloading as some kind of mechanism, similar to the traps technology, that the DH can place in all 1h crossbows she finds to make them automatically reload when she fires. The automatic appearance of the ammo in the slot... well it is a rule that almost every game breaks, so that is something you simply have to accept or think of as the wonders of magic.
The problem is...there are 1h crossbows... Like I said earlier, I have two 1h crossbows myself.
As for them making sense, it's Diablo. I said it before and I'll say it again, if you want things to be realistic, if you want things to be logical, if you want things to make sense, go play another game, because this franchise is not the right one for you.
Just play a vanquisher in TL and see what you think - that's the obvious model for the DH.
It's pretty funny, this game has character design that incorporates bizarre african/polynesian stereotypes from goofy fantasy literature 150 years ago, and had exploding potions that were basically grenades in D2 - but use a 15th century adaptation of a portable tube and gunpowder and oooohnoooes it isn't fantasy anymore! :nuke:
At least TL (and WoW, with the dwarves/goblins) has fun with the cyberpunk stuff and does something original with it - D3 is bound by fantasy cliches in all the wrong ways IMO.
Again, i don't see any gameplay difference if they added 2h repeating crossbows instead of those pistols crossbows. In the end you would have an option for a slow/strong and a weak/fast weapon, wich is the fundamental difference between dual wielding and 2h weapons.
And my point is not only realism. Other "unrealistric" features (like the super large inventory, unlimitted ammo, etc...) exist for the sake of gameplay and cause of the fact that those features have a small visual impact due those things only exist inside the game's interface. Unlike those, the pistol crossbows adds little/nothing to gameplay and have a dramatic visual impact because it appears at your character.
My point is that those pistol crossbows is an alien in the diablo's universe, both in terms of flavor and in terms of stetics. If you're playing D2 or reading the lagacy of blood novel, would you ever think of pistols crossbows ?
When you have an consolidated fantasy world any kind of change is delicate. The change needs a context, a background. This weapon type is outside the flavor standarts builded for decades. And the worst is that this dramatic change occurs only to add fancy visuals, something the diablo's universe never had and never needed.
If this is your argument, I don't understand why you don't just argue for three types of weapons, "Melee Weapon", "Ranged Weapon", and "Caster Weapon". You fight against having 1h crossbows but not about 1h swords or 1h maces or 1h axes?
Well, 1h crossbows add just about as much as 1h swords, 1h maces, and 1h axes. Just sayin'.
Edit: One more thing: It has nothing to do with realism or lack thereof. It has everything to do with fun, and with more options.
If you want realism, you are in the wrong genre, and the Diablo series is not for you.
Reskinning a model is hardly the same as what Drizzt went through. Drizzt left everything he knew to find a new place to live (Don't ruin it, I'm only on book 3!) whereas reskinning a barbarian has no backstory or anything, it's just a reskinned witch doctor.
Let me try it with another approach. In Diablo 1's expansion, you get the Monk. The Monk has the same skin as the Warrior. Does this mean the Monk is actually the Warrior, or did they just reskin it, just like the reskinned guns in D3?
I have two (2) one handed crossbows. (Don't have any two handed crossbows.) The recoil doesn't really exist. That recoil in the game is from before they re-skinned the guns to be crossbows.
For the last time, guns = gunpowder, so therefore guns = one-handed crossbows would mean one-handed crossbows = gunpowder, which doesn't work. So, in conclusion, one-hand crossbows ARE NOT guns. Argue with that logic now, bitches!!
Indeed. They are not guns, they are reskinned guns.
I wonder. If I reskin a Witch Doctor to look like a Barbarian, and I play it, then, according to your logic, I am playing a barbarian that raises zombie walls and has zombie dogs, but still a Barbarian, right?
As one who grew up using a bow in practical applications, I've always had a little bit of an issue with the mechanics of ALL game or movie archers. NO MECHANICAL DEVICE could ever achieve the output of the Demon Hunter's crossbows. Of course with Diablo, one must accept that the archer classes are using their magic to both create ammo and reload their weapons, so this isn't really a problem.
Indeed. I two bows and two crossbows. I enjoy them both greatly, however what he is saying is true.
In my oppinion? Blizzard build a gun user for Diablo 3, saw the community didn't like it, reskinned the guns to be 1h crossbows, and set it out anyway.
Personally, I find it hilarious that they did it. They wanted guns, and those are guns. Just waiting to hear that the bolts are held in a magazine and they are semi-automatic crossbows. Lol.
i dont really mind one way or the other. personally i prefer bows, but they arent doing guns simply because it doesnt fit the medieval feel of the game.
I have this odd feeling the Demon Hunter was originally gonna use guns, but then with the whining that everybody did (not just here, all diablo sites), (again, personal conjecture) they didn't wanna scrap the idea so they changed the guns to crossbows and kept on going.
Also, if you don't think guns fit the medieval feel, you should stop thinking about M16's.
Honestly, I find it hilarious. I am loving it. Everybody whined and cried about the mere idea of a firearm in the game (Not saying here, but in all of Blizzard's Diablo Fan Sites) and so they came and made a Crossbow that behaves like a Pistol.
Irony, I love thee.

How do you reload a knife?... o.O;
