Based on the Beta builds, I was taken aback at the mobility and damage output of the Demon Hunter compared to the Wizard.
That's interesting, because in a few other threads I've read today people have been disappointed with the Demon Hunter's damage and putting Wizard in a pretty good spot damage-wise.
Unless I misread your post and you were saying that Demon Hunter was surprisingly low compared to Wizard in regards to damage and mobility.
I'm thinking everyone is just seeing different things due to gear and playstyle, perhaps.
Another thing that could have been considered while lowering the Wizard's damage is PvP. You can't have the Wizard be able to frontload tons and tons of damage, because then you'd have to offset that by having them drop like a sack of potatoes when they take damage.
They'll still have reasonable damage, comparable to other classes. The thing is, they'll have defensive capabilities too, so they don't die.
And if anyone's thinking "Well no one should ever get to a Wizard due to slows, stuns, etc., so it's okay for them to be fragile," there will be unavoidable damage in PvM and PvP. Barbarians will get in your face and tear you up.
I'd like to point out that in a game like Diablo a class is definitely not solely measured on their ability to frontload damage. Diablo is also about survivability. The Wizard has a ridiculous amount of CC, slowing power, and otherwise ability to avoid getting hit. Compare that to a class like Barbarian or Monk, who are forced to stand in the pack to deal damage and you'll find that Wizards can run circles around a pack picking them off one by one.
There's more to a class than damage.
Also it's beta. At level 13. That's like (for those of you who've played WoW) complaining that their level 10 priest does crappy damage compared to a level 10 hunter.
The game hasn't even released yet and people are already saying their classes are bad.
It's still in beta. Also the max level is 13. Certainly not an accurate representation of level 60 play. They don't balance the game around level 13 Skeleton King. I'm sure Blizzard will make sure all classes are close to one another in damage at end game.
