Psh, dogs wont die. With the templar (Or similarly with a monk) your dogs gain like 900 hp per second. Pretty much a monster has to eat through 6300 hp a second to even reduce the hp of your party. Of course they can focus you down, but that's why you have defensive skills and your pets don't.
Thanks for the information. The WD is going to be my first character and its nice to find a sensible crowd who at least take in other peoples opinions and not just break out the flames first. With the current opinions of dogs being poor damage (No beta) does that mean going for a massive pet build isnt as vialbe as it could be?
Is mana a problem or are you better stacking for regen? (with teh new patch changes)
Mana isn't a problem with the cheap skills. You get 10 ish mana per level and mana costs don't scale.
The templar regen is too op to pass up though.
6 out of 8 is far better then 0-2 out of 8 from before. so spiders are bawler now. use them more as you get higher once you get decent DPS. the leaping huge distances to reach enemies is amazing
I guess, but 6 out of 8 is still less damage than a single poison dart, which costs half as much mana.
I just got beta today thanks to this lovely site and well...spiders are pretty much junk now. The leaping spiders are usable, but you're still lucky to get more than 6 attacks out of a cast. The price is a bit high for that.
Other stuff I noticed about the new build:
Mana costs on skills no longer scale with level.
Your mana pool still goes up with level, but barely.
Anything over 40 mana better be amazing, that's around 20% of your entire mana pool.
I agree with your analysis of the dogs. I mean, they're free damage that you don't really have to maintain, but damn that's some low damage.
I think the best bet might be burning dogs, just because it's aoe. Or just not take them until they get buffed.
I'm glad to see dart is the best single target spell again, since that's all it had going for it.
Poison dart won't be the "best" single target spell once we get access to Spirit Barrage, but it will by far the more mana efficient single target spell while being of comparable damage.
Unruned Spirit Barrage does 215% weapon damage to Runed Splinter Darts 210%, that said Spirit Barrage costs a whopping 66 mana to Poison Darts 24.
Lol I'll give up 5% weapon damage for 1/3 the cost. There are other advantages as well. Poison dart is a physical spell, which has it's own passives like the free fetish. The main spirit mastery passive refills mana over 10 seconds, which doesn't help a spammable spell.
That said, I'm sure they'll each have their own uses, especially depending on the new runes for spirit barrage. The 20 second spectre doing more damage would be awesome to have, since you could still use poison dart. The additional projectiles would make that skill destroy groups quickly.
Awesome. It looks like mana management will be more important, but still possibly easier. I'm looking forward to the rest of the changes when you post them. Thank you.
Haunt actually could be decent, if you're using unruned poison dart, you could swap between resentful spirit and poison dart and have 2 dots on the target at all times.
