My theory is that if you're good at chess, you can get good at starcraft i.e. you already know how you'll react before your enemy makes their move. This is what makes players seem "robotic" in Starcraft, they already know how to react / counter to any situation without thinking much about it. This is what makes them "fast"... they already know what to do, it's just a matter of clicking / multitasking their way into victory.
Of course, you don't have to be good at chess to be good at Starcraft. It's just something I noticed.. I played a lot of LAN tournaments and it's a simple observation that my friends who were good at chess were "better" than my friends who weren't, and we all started playing SC at the same time.
