Guides, replays, guides, and replays, and again. And a friend who's good at it whom you can lose to over and over. I also recommend Abyss. B.net is kind of meh.
If you ignore that, good luck playing StarCraft. Bruteforcing it is going to take ages at the level it has become.
Anyone who tells you SC is all about speed doesn't know what he's talking about (we're discussing the quasi-official melee games here, right? Not the fastest junk?).
Before you have speed you need to know all the typical plays in the game in your matchup, how to react to them, how they will react, etc. It takes a while, especially for me I played Random lol.
